BLACK MIRROR DISCUSSION WITH SPOILERS

Okay so I don't think I could have made it any clearer that spoil will be rampant in here.

I just finished binging series four. Therefore I am emotionally compromised by black mirror and saying oh my god a lot.

• USS Callister was amazing, and sad but mostly amazing.
• Arkangel was a headfuck because my step-daughter is around the same age as the girl was when she got the implant.
• Crocodile was kind of a disappointment for me but I like the fact that she was outed as a killer by a guinea pig.
• Hang The DJ is basically where I expect the horrors of Tinder to progress in the next however many decades. I could see the ending coming but it didn't make it any less brilliant.
• Metalhead was fantastic black and white dystopian horror, and now I demand a legion of robot dogs to do my bidding. I realise I might die at their behest but it would be worth it for small METAL TERROR.
• Black Museum was absolute fucking genius. So so satisfying.

Please someone fangirl with me before I splode.

Series three is still my favourite though. San Junipero made me cry happy tears and the rest of the series was just mindfuckingly some of the best tv I have ever seen.

I loved USS Callister, along with San Junipero that's one I'd love to see made into a full series!

Arkangel disappointed me because I thought the girl would end up blinding herself to spite her mother, so just bashing her with the screen was an anti-climax for me.

And in Crocodile, it lost all credibility for me when she supposedly carried a dead man to drop him in a hole. Dead bodies are harder to move than equivalent live ones. No way she could have done that by herself!

In the end of USS Callister, when the gamers voice can be heard at the end, threatening to blast them to shit.....it’s Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. It’s his gamer I.d from the series.

@ratinthehat, I loved hearing him at the end. DH was sure it wasn’t Aaron Paul so I was happy to be proved right!

Black Museum was amazing! I loved it. This series has been so powerful and thought provoking. I can’t say I enjoyed Crocodile and I found Metalhead terrifying (I’m phobic about dogs...unstoppable robot dogs who can drive and use weapons have basically been mined from my nightmares). But the ideas about digital consciousness, ethics, privacy and control that were explored throughout this season were fascinating and the way Black Museum brought it all together was deeply satisfying!

I have to agree with PP that I'm a bit disappointed by this series. I enjoyed all of the episodes, but none except USS Callister (which was utterly amazing) blew me away in the way that nearly every other Black Mirror episode has. These episodes don't even compare to Nosedive or the captivating San Junipero. I also guessed a lot of it, and I thought Metalhead was a bit like a sixth form's media studies project (sorry!).

Watching USS Callister again though

Just finished s4. Good series. Didn't get much from eps2 and 3 but the rest were great.

Wish Netflix would let you watch them in order though. Will probably rewatch at some point but will have to keep manually selecting the correct series, no doubt :)

Did anyone else recognise Jessie from Breaking Bad as the voice of the gamer they meet at the end of ep1?

Also, did Hang the DJ bring to mind The Adjustment Bureau for anyone else? I know it is a completely different story, but the rebel-against-the-system thing.

Also, fancy re-watching Bugsy Malone now :)

We've started on series 4. Loved series 3, always telling people to watch it.

Enjoyed USS Callister and Arkangel, but finding Crocodile a really tough watch. Not liking it at all. I know it's not real, but the thought of her killing the baby makes me feel sick.

Really loved USS callister, genuinely funny as well as clever.

Arkangel was kind of predictable but I still liked it and did strike a cord as a parent tbh.

Crocodile was just stupid tbh, I didn't believe in her character at all, going to those lengths to cover the crime up. Just didn't ring true.

Loved black museum, liked the style and the story telling and the ideas.

Anyone notice the guy who had his dead wife's thoughts implanted in his brain was reading a graphic novel of 15 million credits?

Loved hang the dj! Would like to watch it again without constantly worrying that something awful was going to happen.

I didn't like metal head either I got really bored watching it.

I quite liked crocodile even though it was a bit stupid. The idea of them seeing your thoughts was pretty scary. I know if they stuck one of them on me my stupid mind would think of something awful just because I would be worried about getting in trouble even if I hadn't done anything.

I have that same fear if I was ever to take a lie detector test. I would be telling the truth but my body measurments would say that I was lying. And JK would then savage me for something I hadn't done :)

Everyone remembers things differently even when they're witnessing the same incident. I don't think the memory machines would be reliable evidence tbh.

It might possibly be the only episode with that sort of feel good ending :)

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal as long as witness accounts can be used as evidence I think the memory machine would be OK. It is like a witnesses words, but even better :)

I haven't read the full thread yet as I haven't finished watching S4, binged watched the first 4 today day.

What did I miss at the end of crocodile about the guinea pig? They didn't show her getting caught did they? I might have to re watch!!

That's the thing about Black Mirror. You just can't relax.

I think they should release a soundtrack.
