AoF stands for Assassin of Fun. We cast him in our Tudor Court (which exists on account of all the beards) as an assassin and then it turns out he takes all of the delicious things out of food. Things like sugar, butter and happiness. We dislike him intensely because he is smug and does mean things to food. Also he dissed Marcus, which is obviously a Crime.

TheLegendOfBeans · 13/12/2017 21:59

you know it @Spam88

gabrielleblue · 13/12/2017 22:03

So delighted to see Steven through. He pulled out the big one, What a delightful jolly chef to have in any kitchen - Tudor or otherwise. And an extra sweet twist to see mad Matt go too. That must have surprised him almost as much as it did me.

TheLegendOfBeans · 13/12/2017 22:05

Stephen is a happy lovely soul, and multi talented too seeing as “Human” and it’s follow up “Skin” did so well in the hit parade

InsomniacAnonymous · 13/12/2017 22:12

Thanks for the replies Smile

Taffeta · 13/12/2017 22:17

Stephven has just the loveliest smile and temperament

And his fuuuuud

Hell I'm not a sweetcorn fan but that plate of food looked scrumdiddlyumptious

catwithflowers · 13/12/2017 22:27

Can't I just give a big cheer for the Raby Hunt, also in my neck of the woods (well a 45 minute drive anyway) and somewhere I've been a couple of times for lovely lunches. It really is fabulous and if you get the chance to go ....... then go 😊

The last time we went was a couple of years ago when it had one star and it looks like it's come on leaps and bounds since then. The staff are lovely and there are a couple of nice bedrooms above the restaurant if you fancy drinking lovely wine and not having to drive.

LEMtheoriginal · 13/12/2017 22:34

Ha! Not just me then - I think he was riding on his reputation and ran out of steam. I thought he would win but really didn't want him too. I like both of the guys tonight.

Would love to try that sort of food but could never afford it Envy

catwithflowers · 13/12/2017 22:59

LEM, when we last went they were doing set lunches for about £45 so not horribly expensive. Prices might have gone up a bit but worth saving up for 😊

LEMtheoriginal · 13/12/2017 23:03

Trouble is I'd need to save some cash for the Chinese on the way home! It all looks delicious but the mains look like starters!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/12/2017 07:52

Insomniac - AoF makes "food" out of moss, and hay FFS - and cooks it over dried sheep droppings.

He puts VEGETABLES in his desserts . . .

That plate full of dry ice and various non-edibles presented as a main course looked like something that the Addams family would look askance at!

And Insomniac - he was just so full of himself. If he was made of chocolate he'd have eaten himself! (Actually - probably he wouldn't. He would have to be made of tree bark or summat!)

EEandEmakes3 · 14/12/2017 15:34

Woo hoo! Just caught up on this. So happy AoF has gone. I absolutely love Steven, he has such a lovely way about him and a gorgeous smile, with just a hint of 'street' about him 😊

gabsdot · 14/12/2017 15:37

I'm a bit late to this discussion. I recorded last night's episode and just finished watching it.
I was shocked that Matt was eliminated. I think he was too. I thought he'd win. He's been so good since the start. Was it a conspiracy?

Taffeta · 14/12/2017 16:10

gabsdot - nah. I guess he just wasn’t good enough. Or not as good as the others.

There’s only so much you can do with smoke and mirrors and ingredients the judges haven’t tried before.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/12/2017 16:16

He thought he'd win, too gabsdot - but no, it wasn't a conspiracy.

He practically went to pieces assembling those desserts in the Raby Hunt - I have never seen a competitor so nervous. His hands were shaking so much he could barely put the puddings together.

And his signature dish just wasn't up to the standard of the others' dishes. Simple as that. He was very clever- but perhaps a little overconfident.

Personally I didn't like the look of most of his food, but that could be because I have never felt the need to scrape lichen off a tree trunk and sous vide it with pigs' earwax jus, or whatever bold concoction he came up with.

Obviously, I haven't had the chance to taste it - it may have been yummy, but I would have taken some persuading. Just over=reached himself, I think.

abbey44 · 14/12/2017 18:55

Just caught up with this - really pleased to see somewhere local featured (never been there though) but a bit agog at the faffiness of it. Still, it's got a great reputation, and the two Michelin stars, so I'm clearly just being a bit of a peasant.

Almost felt sorry for AoF as he left, but managed to get over it. Wonder whether he did.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/12/2017 19:03

I think he'll have convinced himself that Marcus (stuck in his 2- Star ways, as he is) just took the opportunity to vent his professional envy on the only chef who was a threat to him . . .

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/12/2017 19:09

I think that because he worked as a private chef, he'd never been under the kitchen pressure that the others experienced on a daily basis.

He'd probably had the luxury of spending countless hours devising his dishes and presentation, and actually being in the thick it was too much for him.

I know it was stressful formal of them, and a new environment for all of them, but I think the cullture shock was greater for him.

Taffeta · 14/12/2017 20:01

DD11 somewhat perturbed by the League of Gentleman trailer

fourquenelles · 14/12/2017 20:02

Getting comfie but I may have to dip out if Tesco delivery turns up early. Bulk buying dog biscuits, diet coke and face wipes aka AoF breakfast ingredients
