I do find it interesting how people's perceptions of the celebs differ. I've never thought AB to be fake/smug or DmG to be entitled. I wonder what it is that makes us see them in different ways? Is it previous experience of them or preconceptions maybe?

bonfireheart · 26/11/2017 17:14

I was determined not to have a fave this year and just enjoy the show after having my heart broken by Oti&Danny and Georgina&Gio not winning. But this seems like the year where if I did have a fave it's changed from Debbie to Gemma to Joe to now Davood.
I think one of the reason she it feel a so flat is the number of new pros, especially the women pros. Nadiya is new, Katya still feels new, even AJ and Gorka aren't part of strictly royalty yet. Hoping that the new pros do stick around and that makes it better next year.

ShirleyPhallus · 26/11/2017 17:15

“Entitled” is a VERY mumsnet word. I never hear it in real life!

I have no idea how Debbie could possibly be described like that either

bonfireheart · 26/11/2017 17:16

It's also hard to comment on what someone is like based on a two min dance, and two min convo with Tess/Claudia. I'd hope when I was at work someone wouldn't judge me based on a two minute interaction.

CaptainBrickbeard · 26/11/2017 17:23

I do hope Susan goes tonight because the others do all deserve to be in it more than her. I think she's been great but fine far enough now.

Will it be Kevin's first series not getting in the final if they do go out now?

fatbottomgirl67 · 26/11/2017 17:36

I think Susan should go tonight too. She's done so well but is well below the level of the others.
This year has been a really disappointing year as far as I'm concerned. The mixture of abilities is too great and I wonder if there should be some sort of criterior used for picking celebrities to avoid this. I'm not sure having celebs who have had a career involving dance, whether it be in the West end or in ballet, should be taking part. I was always under the impression it was for those who didn't dance. I know a lot have been to stage school but maybe that's different? I just can't warm to dm or ab knowing they started at a completely different point to the others. It's a bit like putting Nigella in celebrity Masterchef

CaptainBrickbeard · 26/11/2017 17:51

I take the point that it isn't a level playing field for a competition, but I like to see really good dancers. If they were all of Susan's calibre, I wouldn't watch the show! I like the mix. I loved watching Jay's dances, I love watching Debbie's. Everyone said Aston was a ringer and he went against Mollie so is not like dance experience/ability guarantees anyone a free pass through. I'd hate to watch twelve rubbish dances in Week 1 so I'm glad of those who come to it with some skills!

ShirleyPhallus · 26/11/2017 17:58

Well on the flip side I hate seeing the crap non-dancers. If you had all those you’d rarely see a really great dance

So having the mix of them works. It’s just debated more than anything else on strictly isn’t it!

fatbottomgirl67 · 26/11/2017 18:01

But surely Joe, Gemma, David, Molly etc started at the same point as Susan? It's just their progression has been greater. So the dancing is improving and enjoyable to watch but is maybe more hard earned as they started from a lower level. A bit like Ore last year with no dance background beating the others who had
You could argue that he didn't perform as well but he wad entertaining and his progression was huge form start to finish

TimFromRuislip · 26/11/2017 18:14

I think Tess uses a stylist for events etc, so I don't know why she can't bring him in for Strictly. I think he did this outfit for Wimbledon which is much better than most of her SCD outfits. Different occasion I know, but still.

I'd like to see Tess go tonight. Oh, not an option? Drat.

pinkteddy · 26/11/2017 18:38

I too find it hard to understand the hate for both Debbie and AB. Are people basing it just on the main show or from tabs or what? If you're a regular watcher of ITT Debbie in particular comes across as so humble, so lovely.

Agree with the others that all non dancers would be very dull. And I'd be surprised if Joe and Davood as actors have not had any dance training. Whereas I don't think Susan had ever learned a routine in her life. I do an aerobics class every week - my teacher has done fit steps with Ian Waite so she throws the odd routine in - you can really see the difference between those who've done dance as children and those who haven't. You pick up a routine much more quickly even at the most basic level.

We do see quite a lot more than that of people, especially via ITT.

My thoughts exactly, FuzzyCustard. Tonight's the perfect night as Steph McGovern is there, in the audience, ready to step in.

FuzzyCustard · 26/11/2017 19:12

I love Steph McGovern. Have you seen her Irish dancing? Amazing. She'd be a brilliant Tess-replacement.

FuzzyCustard · 26/11/2017 19:16

I went off Debbeh a bit (more) when I saw her recently on Celeb Antiques Road Show. She seemed extremely competitive but not in a nice way. A few of her comments came across as rather snarky. And then she was on Celeb Chase the same week and it all seemed a bit overkill. But I've not read anything about her in the press so this is an opinion I've formed all on my own!

Bad Fuzzy! GrinWineGlitterball

Sorry! Blush
I'm quite prepared to be proved wrong.

^ I was referring to that. Which tickled me enormously! Grin

fatbottomgirl67 · 26/11/2017 19:20

Pinkteddy there is a huge difference in having a bit of dance training and training with the royal ballet. I think it's a bit unfair to suggest all the others routines have been boring to watch. Yes ab and dm' s routine are more complex and polished but I love seeing the improvement in the others as the weeks go by. There is so little change in those 2's performances when you compare them to Joe and some of the others.

I just hope that neither of them win. Deserves to be someone who has progressed rather than someone who has had a huge head start

FuzzyCustard · 26/11/2017 19:23

And we're off!
Oh Brenda's trying to be sexy. Yuk.

MrsJamin · 26/11/2017 19:23
