Here! Grin

OP posts:

Hands off Claude Shirley! She hates being touched. Gemma was a good Buffy the vampire slayer. Don’t miss grumpy Len.

elfinpre · 30/10/2017 06:24

I thought the Shirley/Claudia thing was quite funny. And though I love her to bits, Claudia does have terrible posture.

ImListening · 30/10/2017 06:28

Sounds like damage limitation to me cave. Don’t believe it for a minute. It didn’t give off that vibe at all!

AppleKatie · 30/10/2017 06:50

Yeah she loves Shirley just as much as we all love that pita relative who calls you fat at Christmas.

SoupDragon · 30/10/2017 07:00

I suspect those "Len's lens" bits are planned and none of it was unexpected.

BalloonSlayer · 30/10/2017 07:20

Checking in!

This week I was a little surprised to see all the 10s. I thought Debbie and Giovanni's Charleston was good but not all that good (and I love Debbie and want her to win). What was all the fannying around behind the screen, to come out in a dress everyone had already seen her wearing, about? Just time-wasting. It was nothing like as good as Louis Smith's one.

GhostlyKiwi · 30/10/2017 08:24

I watched Debbeh's Charleston again last night (DH wanted to see it) and I think I'd have given it 8s. Apart from the faffing behind the screen, the lifts went a bit askew and she stumbled quite obviously at one point. But boy did she sell it well.

awaynboilyurheid · 30/10/2017 09:04

I like Shirley and no one can say after watching youtube videos of her dancing that she doesn't know her stuff!! but I can imagine that she's she's v v tough and a stickler for detail. She is now having to reign it in a bit and be kind to the duffers on strictly and now and then like correcting Claudia's posture she just cant help herself!!
Glad Simon went, it was really about time, Molly and AJ are good but instantly forgettable and I'm not sure why as I normally love AJ's choreography.
Loved Joe and katya's spider routine, thought Susan was poor and she was a bit annoyed at getting criticism which I didn't like she can't always hear wonderful things when her dance wasn't that good.

morningtoncrescent62 · 30/10/2017 09:49

I really like KFG and Joe Varney this year, their partners seem to have brought out really nice sides to them.

I've been thinking that too. I never exactly had the hate for KFG but he's always left me a bit 'meh'. I'm enjoying watching his partnership with Susan. I thought she seemed very deflated this weekend, missing her usual joy and exhuberance, but I suppose if she's been getting abuse in the twittersphere that would account for it. Such a shame, because I agree with her, the programme is about the joy of dancing, and she brings that in spades.

The look on Joe Varney's face at the end of the week 1 dance is something I'll remember for a long time!

ChoccyJules · 30/10/2017 10:05

I always assumed Claud's posture was part of her whole (grating) 'silly old me' act and fits with her apparent liking for slapstick.

FineSally · 30/10/2017 10:22

not posted on this thread before.

Just to say I have not warmed to Shirley, I think she is inconsistent with both her remarks & the marking. I'm not saying she doesn't know her stuff, but it's SO obvious who her favourites are.

I wouldn't miss her if she's replaced for next series.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/10/2017 10:23

So have I Choccy. - I assumed it was a sort of Goth Slouch.

ppeatfruit · 30/10/2017 11:17

Thanks for the new thread Horseless Halloween Grin This thread moves soooo dam fast!!!!

Simon was injured no one said anything about it! Of course he should have gone. He could do himself a lot of damage dancing on an injury. Ruth should 've been in the DO though.

Mollie has cracked the awkwardness she had earlier. (dh asked me who the celeb was!)

Susan should just go off stupid twitter ,she's lovely.

I liked the fact that Johnny made a 'thing' of his false leg as a pirate, not only is he hot he's brave and funny!!!

Most of the costumes were brilliant. Some of the wigs were 'comedy'?

How funny that Tess had chosen a dress, AGAIN, that did nothing for her yesterday , she has no idea of her body type. Mini is not right for her IMO. Though she does have lovely legs.

AppleKatie · 30/10/2017 11:58

What does KFG stand for

I've got the K and I suspect the F.... but the G?

CeeBeeBee · 30/10/2017 12:25

Kevin from Grimsby, Applekatie.

AppleKatie · 30/10/2017 12:28

Ah yes of course. Not on the right track at all then but makes perfect sense Grin

morningtoncrescent62 · 30/10/2017 12:51

It's to do with when he was first on the show, AppleKatie. Bruce struggled with all the Russian, German, Italian etc. names of the new pros that series, so there was a whole thing about Kevin coming from Grimsby. I get the feeling it's not mentioned much these days though or possibly I've missed the references because I watch on iPlayer and fast forward through the VTs.

MissEliza · 30/10/2017 13:05

Shirley was so rude to Claudia! I was aghast but dh thought it was hilarious. I wonder if she’ll be back next year

Lottapianos · 30/10/2017 13:22

I don't understand the Tess dress hate. She does wear the odd shocker but I like most of them. And to be honest, you could stick her in a bin bag and the woman would still look stunning.

I really liked Shirley with her clear, helpful feedback and fair marking. Her marking in the last couple of weeks though has been batshit and she was A RUDE COW to Claudia last night. Darcey had that rictus 'omgdidshejustsaythat????!' grin on her face. Lovely Claudia who is so supportive to everyone and genuinely funny did not deserve that. Ugh.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 30/10/2017 13:35

I’m wondering if Shirley will be back next year too. She’s clearly not really used to TV, she’s not got a TV persona, she’s just being herself and as such lacks filter. I suspect because of her experience and expertise in her real life she’s got used to people always looking up to her. A young dancer would probably be delighted if Shirley gave them a maser class in improving their posture, but Claude isn’t a young dancer, she’s a grown woman who doesn’t want to be manhandled and patronised.

ppeatfruit · 30/10/2017 13:39

True Lotta But Tess does seem a bit of fashion victim , (she wears what is in fashion and not what suits her IMO) Apart from her hair which she hardly ever changes ( she looked fantastic in an updo once!!) Those bandage type dresses don't do anything for anyone.

Claud is more secure and goes for what looks good on her.

MichelGarnier · 30/10/2017 14:25

I haven't much of the previous series, at least not in depth, so I can't compare to this one, but does Darcey often look Hmm at Craig at his commments and scoring? Like every time he does a low score she looks across and almost rolls her eyes and has to stop herself saying something? Not always in a negative way, often she looks quite fond, like "oh, you old grump". Anyone else?!

theliverpoolone · 30/10/2017 14:27

Seeing as Sunday's show is filmed on Saturday, so not live ShockGrin, and Claudia is the highest paid female on TV, so probably has a lot of minions fussing over her, if she or anyone else was the slightest bit bothered about what Shirley said, they'd have cut it out and re-recorded that bit.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/10/2017 14:46

I can't imagine Claudia is precious or starry at all. At least I want to believe she'd not because I like her so much

AppleKatie · 30/10/2017 14:50

I don't think you need to be particularly precious to not like being manhandled and have your posture criticised at short notice on TV!

It may have all been planned/directed in advance of course but if it was Claudia and the other judges did an excellent job of looking caught off guard and uncomfortable!
