Was anyone else looking at Katya's face just after David got his scores? Very odd expressions!

ReallyExhaustedLlama · 05/11/2017 14:57

*Davood!

RhiannonOHara · 05/11/2017 14:59

Duck and Llama, what were Gemma and Katya's faces doing? I didn't notice. We need a description. Grin

RosyWelshcakes · 05/11/2017 15:00

I suspect Johnnie has given up because he doesn't want to fail. He'll just hope to be voted off and say - well thats what happens on SCD. IT was just one of those things.

morningtoncrescent62 · 05/11/2017 15:11

Phew, just caught up. Overall it was a good night, I thought. I absolutely loved Ruth and Anton's paso, but I thought it had a load more dance content in it than anyone said. I watched it twice running, and I think it was much more than a comedy routine, although the end did make me laugh. Perhaps it was funnier in the studio? From Darcy's comments about the faces Ruth was making I wonder if there was more characterisation than we saw. I thought the singer (whether you love her or loathe her) should have got her own round of applause for her solo, was surprised Tess didn't do that. Another gaffe from Shirley, about 'not a household in England who didn't enjoy that'. Some of us up in Scotland also rather liked it, Shirl! Grin

Anyone spot the Man In the Hat waving during the introductions? I think he might be reading Monkseal and knows he has a fan club.

Bruno has been much less annoying these last two weeks. His week off must have done him good - I found him much more amusing than usual.

I'm afraid I was bored in Debbie's tango and I fast forwarded it, so I was then a bit surprised by the judge's comments and marked. Couldn't be bothered to rewind and watch though.

Hey, thanks whoever it was for telling me about Darren and Lilya on ITT on Monday and Tuesday. I watched it, and it was lovely to see them again. I'm very envious of Rep of Ireland where they're judges. They'd make good replacements for Darcy and Bruno... or perhaps Lilya as a judge replacing Darcy, and Darren replacing Tess as presenter.

I loved seeing Susan's wife in the VT (I forward through most of the VTs but I always watch Susan). I'm old enough to remember when same-sex couples couldn't so much as hold hands publicly, and it makes me so happy that I now live in times where a woman can talk about her wife and no-one bats an eyelid. I know homophobia is far from dead and buried, but it reminds me how far we've come. And I thought Susan looked gorgeous, not a bit Krankee-esque! Couldn't believe how much energy she threw at that jive, it was fantastic.

RhiannonOHara · 05/11/2017 15:21

Another gaffe from Shirley, about 'not a household in England who didn't enjoy that'. Some of us up in Scotland also rather liked it, Shirl!

I KNOW! Not to mention Wales and NI...

As a person living in That London I was embarrassed for her.

CaveMum · 05/11/2017 15:22

I thought Debbie was over-marked - she was doing the ballet thing of leading with her feet/legs rather than moving her body first and allowing her feet to fall under her.

Re. Jonnie, the thing with hip action is that it's a misnomer to think it all originates in the hips, it's about the placement of the feet: if you stand with blocked feet (square, toes pointing straight ahead) your hips have to work so much harder to achieve the right action. That's why the Judges keep talking about the importance of turn out in the feet.

Pumpkini · 05/11/2017 15:26

Continue to love Joe and really glad he's stayed in long enough to improve and for people to get to know him. Agree that there was just too much of Gemma to do those lifts! (Wish I was that shape). Hate the Salsa anyway, always looks so messy. Thought the Tango was quite dull, but do like Debbah. Thought Susan worked really hard and it was definitely worth it.

Curious to see who is in the DO.

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/11/2017 15:49

So delighted for Davood & Nadiya. That dance was classic.

I didn’t actually like Debbeh in that tango (I’ll admit I was rather taken with Gio though). I thought she looked too tense. I’m happy to see her do well.

Gemma was disappointing, I didn’t spit any strapping g though so that makes sense.

I like AB. I admire confidnece in a woman and dont see that she’s especially more ambitious than anyone else there. Also, Gorka was fucking HOT in that routine Grin

Jonnies time is up IMO. He was actually just bad, as opposed to Mollie who is infinitely forgettable but dances fine.

Way too many gusset lifts this series. Not into it.

I can’t decide how I feel about Joe. I really enjoy Katyas choreography usually but the styling of that wasn’t for me. He’s very good at the performance though.

Love Susan. Still dont like Kevin. For the love of god won’t someone glue that lock of hair away from his face!

Is that everyone...can’t remember. Enjoyed the show though, not a fan of the silhouette of Tess' jumpsuit.

Can’t wait to have no bloody social life again next week so I can watch live again!

CaveMum · 05/11/2017 16:01

In defence of the Salsa, when its danced properly it looks just as good as the more traditional Latin dances. It's actually far easier than the other dances as there is no complicated footwork and technique to worry about!

The problem is that on Strictly they stopped using Salsa Pros to help choreograph the routines and instead have ended up with a weird dance that is basically lifts with some ass-shaking in between!

I've posted this video many, many many many times. THIS is what a Salsa should look like:

MrsJayy · 05/11/2017 16:32

thursdaylastweek I really love Joe and Katya hope they get to the final if Gemma stays this week no more lifting gemma she is too tall and too muscly I am sure Alijaz made a noise lifting her 😀

ElspethFlashman · 05/11/2017 16:42

Let's not forget Shirley's "coming from the rear" comment or whatever it was. Hilarious.

MrsJayy · 05/11/2017 16:44

She said coming up the rear i thought Bruno was going to combust Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/11/2017 16:46

Grin Mrsjayy she is Amazonian isn’t she?! Reckon she might weigh the same as two Jeanettes!
This is very very not a criticism, I think she looks amazing

MrsJayy · 05/11/2017 16:49

Yes she isn't 5ft nowt that can be thrown about

RosyWelshcakes · 05/11/2017 16:51

I was built like her in a time when it made me a freak so I really enjoy looking at her and seeing a beautiful young woman who is admired for her height and built.

I did love it at when at one stage the camera was on her upstairs and she was kind of shimmying in her dress just for the sheer pleasure of it. She wasnt aware of the camera and you could tell she was absolutely loving the dress and how she felt in it. I imagined her taking it home and dancing round her bedroom in it.

OneInAMillionYou · 05/11/2017 16:59

Cavemum that salsa video is amazing, thank you.

One question, they are confined for space so staying in one spot, mostly. If they were on Strictly would they be travelling around the floor?

Like others, I regret the constant lifts in the SCD salsa and agree they are mainly included to kill time and disguise a lack of technique.

Mark and Karen my all time favourites too!

Twofishfingers · 05/11/2017 17:10

regular street salsa is very different than competition salsa. and each latin country will have its own version or style of it. So salsa from Cuba is a bit different to salsa from Columbia, for example.

In clubs it is pretty much on the spot dance as there is not much space, but in show dance there is a lot of travelling on the floor. What annoys me the most in salsa on strictly is that it is a dance led by the man, and on strictly it doesn't show in that way.

Twofishfingers · 05/11/2017 17:11

Oh and this year I am also really annoyed by the scoring. I think Davood is regularly underscored. It's really unfair and off putting.

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2017 17:27

Jonnie won't be in the dance off. He is far too popular with the public. I believe he has a ballroom dance next week so should get safely through to Blackpool

Theromanempire · 05/11/2017 17:50

I agree about Gemma - her figure is bloody amazing and, personally, I think she is a much better role model for young girls than stick-thin celebs like Mollie. I am also naturally amazonian (although I am currently overweight) but I would kill to have Gemma's figure. However it isn't really suited to lifts is it? Shame as I bet they would do an awesome American Smooth but the lifting might be an issue Hmm

MrsJayy · 05/11/2017 18:00

Gemma looks like she weight lifts or maybe kettle bells one of my Dds is her shape and she did kettle bell training Dd isn't as tall though but she is sturdy

SoupDragon · 05/11/2017 18:19

I googled Gemma earlier to see how tall she is (5'9") and there was a picture of her showing some impressive biceps in an article about her fitness regime.

IhaveChillyToes · 05/11/2017 18:47

I don't mind who goes tonight as long as it isn't RUTH or SUSAN

Think it will be GEMMA or MOLLIE or ASTON

Cos think Ruth is safe

Gemma and/or Aston don't think have been tested by public vote yet

No idea if that means people will have voted or not

Mollie was in DO before so could be again

But people might have been rallied to vote for her

Anyway think it is between

*GEMMA, ASTON & MOLLIE
*
it could be someone from higher up table like DAVOOD but doubt he would go today cos of his score even if he was in DO

No idea how many votes there are between people

Wish at end of series they released the voting numbers for episodes - cos that would be very interesting to see how votes changed thru the weeks

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/11/2017 18:49

I’ll be honest, while I enjoy Jonnie as a role model (dancing in his blade, what a guy) I dont think he’s especially charismatic.

I also really hate his hair, but that’s by the by!
