I never understood the hostility towards Alexandra and then last week when she was interviewed on the sofa after the results she described Gorka as 'my pro.' It seemed so at odds with how the other celebs talked about their partners. It's such a small thing but it felt quite revealing about what kind of person she is.

Featherstep · 04/11/2017 22:32

Just caught up..
LOVED Joe again, the choreo, acting, costumes all worked beautifully.
I don't like Davood but that was surprisingly good, nice frame, light footed.
Not sure why Debbeh was worshipped, I saw a lot of tense stumbling tonight and she was also visibly shaking during the dance!
Gemma was very meh and Johnnie was the weakest of the bunch.
Alexandra is an amazing performer despite her bent knees (it's a 10 if you just looked at her top half!)

SoupDragon · 04/11/2017 22:40

I don't get the hat for Alexandra. I don't find her fake or smug or anything like that.

SoupDragon · 04/11/2017 22:48

Hate. Not hat, obviously.

HangryHanderson · 04/11/2017 22:56

I don't know why either but Alex really divides, I like her but never saw her on XF.
Jonnie was the worst for me tonight personally.
Mollie is still one I can't warm to.
Gemma was lumpy and leaden tonight but her paso was one of my favourite routines this year so wouldn't mind seeing her at least one more time, preferably Tangoing.
I have watched that Debbeh routine with different music(!) three more times and still think her top half wobbles at least twice.

TheweewitchRoz · 04/11/2017 22:56

Absolutely loved Ruth & Susan. Also liked Debbie & Alexandra.

I think it’ll be Mollie in the DO with either Jonnie or Gemma.

MrsJayy · 04/11/2017 23:09

Debbies tango was a proper tango no faffery it was amazing i wish she would stop putting her leg in the air though. I like Joe and katya I think they are my favourites. Davood and Naydia were lovely tonight. I think it might be Johnnie and Gemma in the dance off.

bonfireheart · 04/11/2017 23:09

Def think Mollie will be in danceoff. Don't think either her or AJ have public support.
Thought it'd be Gemma but PP is right that Alijaz has a strong fan base. Jonnie was poor but both him n Oti have a strong following.
Which got me thinking about the lower scoring celebs whose pro partner may not have a strong following and so I think it'll be Aston.
If it is then that'll be hard. Aston is the much better better dancer but Mollie did a sweet routine & Aston's was all a bit 'meh'. Plus the judges have it in for him.

bonfireheart · 04/11/2017 23:11

Read online somewhere that at this middle stage of the competition it's not about who's a better dancer but who has a better personality.

OneInAMillionYou · 04/11/2017 23:30

Watching late tonight because fireworks!

I agree with PPs, I think Aston may be in trouble. The judges don't like his feet and Janette's choreography is really poor when it comes to traditional ballroom. It would be a shame as he is naturally very talented.

As for the other pair, it should really be Anton and Ruth but they are clearly more popular with viewers than Mollie and AJ, so it may be them.

After a million series I can't believe people still getting hung up on the 'previous dance experience' thing.
To watch 15 people with zero dance talent or skill or experience would be excruciating and viewers would switch off in their droves.
The balance of the cast is the thing but I think Alexandra is the nearest thing to a 'pro' dancer, not Debbie. She's younger and her dance experience in current musicals means she starts ahead of the field.
However, her popularity is another thing all together.

I think she has a naked ambition and knows how good a Strictly win would be for her career. However, she has to put on the faux " oh it's sooooo tricky" shtick to get the public to engage with her 'journey'

Very fake in my view.

On the positive side, I love how Giovanni is with Debbie, so respectful and caring, I've seen a whole new side to him this year.

IhaveChillyToes · 04/11/2017 23:50

@OneInAMillionYou that is a much better way of putting it about Alexandra

Saw on YouTube that she was in a show with Craig a while ago - can't remember what it was but she is so fake with all the pretending she is a beginner and never been on stage, all this tonight .........

Oh being first was so hard - yeah right ConfusedConfusedConfused

Why doesn't she just be honest?

Say yes I have been in west end musicals and shows etc but I want to get better, I know I am ahead of Ruth etc but want to improve rather than pretending to be a novice

And very disrespectful of her attitude speaking about Gorka IMHO like he is a backing dancer for her performance

BTW what has her colour got to do with anything?

I couldn't care more or less if her skin was green with blue spots and purple stripes - her colour of skin and hair and eyes is of no consequence to her attitude or my opinion of her

Ceto · 04/11/2017 23:57

I mostly find Alex rather dull to watch. Tonight, however, I found her screeching and hooting as she went up the stairs quite seriously irritating.

Bejazzled · 05/11/2017 00:10

It's so lazy playing the racism card when a non white person is criticised isn't it. There's plenty of criticism dealt across all the contestants regardless of colour. Shame it's reared its ugly head on such a pleasant thread.

Susan, Debeh and Daveed for me tonight and I thought the show as a whole was really joyful tonight Smile

Raisedbyguineapigs · 05/11/2017 00:41

I loved Susan and Davood, and Ruth and Anton for entertainment value. I agree I didn't really see how amazing Debbie's dance was, but assumed a real pro Tango is just quite dull. I still like her and don't care if she was a ballerina 40 years ago. She's done some beautiful dances that were beautiful to watch.

OneInAMillionYou · 05/11/2017 01:21

I'm also loving Debbie's refreshingly down to earth demeanour.

She was selected in that Strictly 'older woman' slot and it is fantastic that she is topping the leader board. All those years being Paul Daniels sidekick and now she can really show her talent, I think it is inspired casting.

I am finding Anton unbearable. I feel sorry for Ruth as with a different partner I'm sure she wouldn't be so patronised. I found Tess massively irritating tonight. TessBot was out in full force and the rictus grabbing of people's hands is infuriating, leave them alone!

As usual, Strictly delights and exasperates in equal measure!

RosyWelshcakes · 05/11/2017 03:43

Shame it's reared its ugly head on such a pleasant thread

Its not the first time and the poster never gets the respons they hope for.

RosyWelshcakes · 05/11/2017 03:45

she's younger and her dance experience in current musicals means she starts ahead of the field

In a nutshell.

Lots of reports asking for this to be removed as it was a spoiler.

Theromanempire · 05/11/2017 06:15

sasha I think you need to report your post and have it removed Shock I know you've not named names but the implication is enough as a spoiler. Not good form!

MrsJamin · 05/11/2017 06:40

Very bad form @SashaFiercesMum to even hint at the spoiler, people know where it is if they want to find it so don't spoil it for people who don't want to know!

Figgygal · 05/11/2017 07:37

Johnnys been a bit rubbish the last two weekends

I like Alexandra always did on X factor too though if you look back then at her bad boys video she was as graceful as a carthorse in heels she's definitely improved. I saw her in bodyguard and can confirm there was no dancing in there didn't see sister act but can't see how there will have been much in that so her stage experience doesn't necessarily translate to dance experience

I didn't think Debbie's dance was a 10 personally I didn't see why they were fawning so much

BalloonSlayer · 05/11/2017 08:20

she knows the lingo, knows what's being asked of her, can retain a complex routine, has the muscle memory to keep straight arms or pointed toes, has the poise of a dancer

You could say that about virtually all athletes, particularly the gymnasts, who always do well. And remember most actors have done some dancing at drama school (that's why most actors can also sing reasonably well - you don't even get in to drama school unless you are pretty versatile.

bonfireheart · 05/11/2017 08:35

I don't mind Alex but wish she'd do a traditional slow ballroom dance, all these fast Latin dances she's doing are now beginning to look samey samey.
I think that's what was refreshing about Davood's dance - they moved away from all the speed and sexiness of his previous dances and it seems to have paid off.

bookbook · 05/11/2017 08:38

I wouldn't be surprised if it were Gemma and Johnnie in the dance off - I think a sense of disappointment in both after good dances earlier in the series .
I don't think Anton and Ruth will be , it was designed to entertain, and gain votes, but I suppose that can always backfire.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2017 08:49

Surely Alexandra can't do a slow ballroom dance until they stop allocating her the Latin ones.
