Anyone watching this? I'm always really uncomfortable with this programme, though I think the families do learn a lot.

Yes I’m watching it. It’s a bit poverty/wealth porn really.

Mummy2one2016 · 19/10/2017 21:19

You just reminded me it was on thank you. I watched it last time around, it's lovely to see what the families take from the experience

pinkhorse · 19/10/2017 21:22

It makes me cringe

Mrskeats · 19/10/2017 21:26

Why is it cringey?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/10/2017 21:27

I wonder what background the rich guy comes from. I've seen some of these where the guy has come from quite a poor background and he learns a lot from going back.

Bluntness100 · 19/10/2017 21:34

I’ve never seen it before, it’s interesting.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/10/2017 21:36

It doesn't make sense though - the rich family eat lots of fruit etc at home, but when they went shopping at the poor house they came back with several litres of coke and a bunch of ready meals.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/10/2017 21:45

That was really disgusting, what the rich guy said about opening his car door and £20 notes fly out because he keeps them in the space in the door - and he doesn't bother running after them.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 19/10/2017 21:49

I think he was kidding....

Mummy2one2016 · 19/10/2017 21:50

I was really shocked to hear him say that about the £20 notes. That sort of money could really help a family in need

Mummy2one2016 · 19/10/2017 21:50

Mummy2one2016 · 19/10/2017 21:51

Not sure why that posted twice appoligies

AdoraBell · 19/10/2017 21:51

Didn’t see it, which Chanel was it on?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/10/2017 21:53

It's on channel 5, AdoraBell.

I don't think he was joking, Bluntness. He said he kept them in the side pocket.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/10/2017 21:55

When you think about it, though, the rich guy's employees probably live like the poor family - he doesn't seem to have considered that. And the children going to his classes might, too.

Loved the ending. Brought tears to my eyes!

MurielsBottom · 19/10/2017 22:03

That is a great point actually MyBrilliantDisguise

I wonder if he did consider how his employees live.

purpleme12 · 19/10/2017 23:01

I'm watching it. When he's buying the fish and chips and he's saying he feels bad for making his kids share a drink um don't you just bring water in a bottle out with you??

purpleme12 · 19/10/2017 23:18

Very confused by that whole £20 note business.

They were saying that Andy just existed rather than lived. I don't get that impression from watching Andy? That he's just existing and not living.

It really annoys me when people are shocked when you say you don't go on holiday. Loads of people haven't been on holiday for years it's not essential.

purpleme12 · 19/10/2017 23:40

The ending made me cry though! The endings aren't normally like that on this programme!

AdoraBell · 20/10/2017 16:06

Thanks MyBrilliantDisgues

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2017 17:55

On planner. Enjoyed s1

But yes sometimes the rich spend their 'budget' On silly stuff / prob as they know it's only a week and then back to their 'nice' life

witchofzog · 24/10/2017 15:00

I don't understand how the other family are in poverty. They are not rolling in it fair enough but they own their own home and have £170 per week after their bills and mortgage. I know people who live on far less. Some weeks we do and I have never considered myself to be in poverty

zukiecat · 24/10/2017 15:10

I wondered that too witchofzog

I rent my home from the council, work part time because of health reasons, and I don’t even have £170 per month left over after rent, bills and food.

Their £170 left over is more than I earn in a week

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/10/2017 15:22

Agree wasn't sure where poverty came from. I don't have £170 a week to call my own

Tho watching e1 did bring a tear to my eye

Rich dad understood things (what he did was lovely) and reliesed didn't have to spend £700 on a day out when all kids wanted was his time at the park - free
