Missed the start but watched last 20 mins. Didn't know CP had ASD so interesting watch

I've just turned it on. Looks interesting.

One of my dc has an ASD diagnosis. CP is such an inspiration. We luffs him.

I love him a little bit. Such an important issue he's bringing to the forefront. He's a brave man for opening himself up like this I think.

Watching this with great interest.

His candidness is moving. I have a lot of respect for him.

Some of the approaches used in America that he's exploring look brutal

He is so brave. That thing about the tadpoles.
Ds1 has Aspergers. It was pointed out to me by the senco at his school. He's 13. I've always been treating him as an autistic child. He is prepared for things, where cars are, sensory toys, how to do simple tasks... it goes on and on. I didn't realise, because I just saw him as himself, not as an autistic person.
I wouldn't change him. Couldn't, but he is reasonably mild.
This school is painful. I spoke to someone at the weekend who loves aba. It worked for her non verbal dc.

Interesting to see his take on the American school. I dont have autism and i found that environment chaotic. How can they be getting it so wrong??

I don't think she sounds sad, just comfortable with saying it how it is, good and bad aspects of their relationship.

What was the thing with the tadpoles I missed that?

His autobiography is amazing, 'Fingers in the sparkle jar'. I don't think I've ever read such a raw and honest book, beautifully written too.

My 15 yr old son has Aspergers, he sat next to me watching it too. He is nodding his head in agreement and yes on bad days he would take a pill to make it go away, but on the good days he wouldn't change a thing !

Watching on catch up now as a friend called. Finding the US school difficult viewing - surely that chaos would be even more disruptive for someone with ASD?

One thing that I think Chris does, is to blow out of the water the misconception that people with ASD have limited emotions or don't feel things much..he clearly feels things very deeply.

I agree totally. If autism was bad, natural selection would have felt with it. I firmly believe that autism is beneficial to society. Not just because my autistic ds is amazing. His knowledge on his interests are encyclopaedic. I'm very proud of him. Chris is making me feel emotional.

I really like him, intent on watching it when I can.

There needs to be more people with Autism who are in the public eye, or who are leaders in their fields (science, arts, IT etc) speaking out publicly, it's great for everyone to understand more, and for young people with autism to see great role models who themselves have ASD. I hope more of this happens.

It was wonderful TV - I've no experience of it at all, but what an insight, and how nice was he?

I really enjoyed this show. I have asd and so do my two dc. Would I rather them not have asd? Honestly yes. Because for them the bad outweighs the good. I think they're wonderful but they find the world very hard especially my youngest who is 5 and unable to speak.
