Anyone watching this? Two episodes in and I'm not sure if I like it or not. Some fantastically scary scenes but the scenes with the four baddies are bizarre! Can't quite acclimatise myself to the London accents in Canada. And then there's Owen from Coronation Street!

Hoof 😂 I would too. He's such a brilliant, underrated actor.

Rollergirl11 · 11/09/2017 16:46

DH and I watched the first one last night and have very high hopes for the series. Need something decent to get our teeth in to now that GOT has finished.

It's got quite a twin peaks vibe to it with the strangeness.

Toyboysrus · 11/09/2017 16:54

Ive watched 3 episodes and I'm enjoying it, it's quite unpredictable in a Fargo kind of way. The teenage daughter is annoying me though and reminds me of the equally annoying teenage daughter in Ray Donovan.

Cakedoesntjudge · 11/09/2017 22:31

I can't stop watching it despite the fact that as it gets dark I get freaked out watching it 😂

I think it's fab, and I'm another Tim Roth fan - I think he's phenomenal in this. I think Anna is quite wooden in it but I think the other characters are all pretty intriguing! I'm on episode 9 so must be nearing the end I presume!

stonecircle · 12/09/2017 00:35

Just got to the end.

Not a fan or otherwise of Tim Roth - but I do think the young man who played Whitey was really really good.

bimbobaggins that jack his undercover cop alter ego.
there was the point when he stood in front of the killer and did the action of gun and I was willing him to click that this is how they've stood before and how similar the hieghts and view of the car and his child would be!!come on timothy.

stonecircle · 12/09/2017 11:26

I found the end really upsetting and unfair.

Omg the ending!!!

stonecircle · 12/09/2017 14:26

I'm really quite disturbed by the ending Suzu. I suppose it's too soon to talk about it on here.

Jeez!!!!! Just watched the last episode ShockShock

LightastheBreeze · 15/09/2017 19:57

Loving this, just watched the end of episode 4, good to hear the late Leonard Cohen singing during the scene at the end, hopefully I will finish the series at the weekend. I might have to avoid the thread until I finish it in case I read anything that happens further on

LightastheBreeze · 15/09/2017 20:00

The daughter is almost as annoying as the daughter who wore the silly flappy boots in Homeland.

NigellasGuest · 15/09/2017 20:03

I've just finished it - I've read reviews and they aren't great but actually I really enjoyed it- the last 2 episodes in particular. Agree with pp who said the Whitey actor is good!

LightastheBreeze · 16/09/2017 21:09

Finished it also, loved it, was a bit like Breaking Bad with some unlikeable characters, can't wait for the next series now.

kateandme · 17/09/2017 10:01

wen can we discuss!
and what will story line be for series 2.
was "the end" as it seemed or did we only see what they angled us to see and wanting us to think...

stonecircle · 17/09/2017 11:26

Well I'm itching to discuss! I found the Tim Roth character deeply disturbing. I can't quite get my head round him. He was portrayed as a sort of lawless hero but he was totally vile. I thought when he found out who Whitey was he would show some compassion and remorse. And take some responsibility since he set in motion the chain of events that led to his son's death.

I thought Whitey was a wonderfully interesting character, with lots of depth. Brilliant actor. The episode where he was younger was so awful - just wanted to scoop him up and get him out of there.

I tend not to like this sort of thing and may need to watch again to get to grips with it properly. Some comparisons have been made with Breaking Bad (which I just couldn't get into) and Twin Peaks (which I found weird) so I'm not really used to watching such quirky things!

mydogisthebest · 17/09/2017 16:43

I really enjoyed it but there were a couple of things that bugged me. How come Tim Roth didn't remember Whitey at all? It was only meant to be 10 years before and he had called the dog Whitey and yet it didn't ring any bell at all! DH said it may be because he was an alcoholic so had no memory but surely he would have at least a bit?

Also he knew he was looking for someone English and yet still didn't suspect Whitey. Where there really so many other English men there? If there were the show didn't make that very obvious

stonecircle · 17/09/2017 17:18

Yes that bothered me. Or rather why he didn't just recognise him? Especially when he knew him so well. I see people my adult dcs went to primary with and haven't seen for 10-12 years and I still recognise them!

PacificDogwod · 17/09/2017 17:26

On balance, I liked it, really compelling story telling.

The whole Joe Worth/Jack Devlin (?worthy vs ?devil) thing was a bit contrived though - fair enough, plenty of people who drink too much can turn a bit nasty when under the influence, but a totally separate personality?? And this was accepted by his wife and daughter? Weird.
Or was it some kind of actual psychiatric condition ('split personality' - hugely controversial).

Whitey/Simon was great - poor little Simon.
It really upset me to think that there are children (and puppies!) out there who live like that and for whom such a life is their normal.

I loved his wife and Her From MadMen/Hendricks - both strong women who are very capable when called upon Grin

Toyboysrus · 17/09/2017 17:54

Can anyone tell me please, was Jim/Jack undercover just to investigate the puppy farm or was there more to it? When he left the farm why didnt the police go in immediately and shut it down and rescue the poor puppies and child? How did grown up Simon/Whitey find Jim/Jack in Canada? Thanks!

PacificDogwod · 17/09/2017 19:43

All very good questions, Toyboy, and I have wondered those myself Confused

It is heavily implied he left the UK under a cloud or after some kind of work-related misdemeanour but what?!
Lots of open questions.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/09/2017 19:53

He wasn't there to investigate the puppy farm. He was there to get close to her so he could find about Franks business (I assume unrelated to puppy farming)

I assume that Frank did a runner after that night when he discovered there was a cop there

PacificDogwod · 17/09/2017 19:58

I think Frank was a drug dealer? Or at least had contacts to the drug world??

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 18/09/2017 07:39

I have been thinking about Tim Roth this series a lot since I watched it.
Same questions Toyboy how did they find him? Especially as he had a different name. I also wondered why Jack didn"t recognise Whitey.
However, I knew that Jack would do what he did in the last scene. His character was always going to follow through on what he thought was vengeance. His failure to take personal responsibility was a running theme throughout the series.
I loved the strong women and it was refreshing to see proper dysfunction in action, I"m thinking about how the wife drank with her alcoholic husband.
Also, when will season 2 come out? There has to be season 2 right? Grin

kateandme · 18/09/2017 08:49

i think he was just getting close to her too and this happened to be where she lived/was put.out of the way puppy farm cover up what they were doing.wasnt at some point little whitey singing fake cheques or something or other for the uncle.
I think jack was passed sympathy.his boy had been shot.his focus his thinking was from then on one view only and that was revenge.
I'm thinking some boys can change radically from that age to adulthood.especially going from such a climate and environment shift it could just be plausible he was totally different.i no pre pubescent boys I wouldn't look at as the same man they are now.total body, face change.

there is a series two.or they said there was, they came out with this from episode one release haha.but itl go on ratings now I'm sure as to whether they carry on with that plan.fingers crossed.there is so much more to go with this.presumably itl be the big boss body now being found? what next for the family?or will it take a whole new theme and chast.can they carry on with this family if they have basically wrapped there whole reasing up with the killing avenge of whitey/son killer.
