Any Nashville fans traumatised by tonight's episode? Sad

Connie B was fantastic in Nashville.

Moanyoldcow · 01/07/2017 16:29

Just caught up with this week's episode.

I was balling at the CMT awards bit.

Glad next season is going well - DH and I are addicts.

Agree wit PP that hideous British director was abusive - detest that kind of storyline. Reinforces terrible stereotypes about relationships.

MynameisJune that's still season 5, it's just the rest of the season after the midseason break. I agree, though, it's focusing more on the music, which is good. Fortunately they decided Maddie had already reached Peak Brat and she hasn't been (quite) so bad. Overall I'm not really enjoying it yet, I hoping that Hayden Panettiere will be well enough to do more scenes (she's in it but seems quite peripheral) in season 6.

Nashville has been renewed for season 6 (link contains mild spoilers) but it will be a run of 16 episodes starting in January 2018. This could really be either because they want one final season to work through the remaining storylines or because a shorter season is better for the actors and the writers, allows them to to avoid quite so many melodramas to keep the ratings over a long season.

Only good thing about the British director is it gives Gunnar several opportunities to perform his dreadful 'fake British' accent, made all the better given the actor is actually British.

TheweewitchRoz · 02/07/2017 13:37

I felt traumatised watching the CMT performance - I was bawling my eyes out & that's such a great song!

Moanyoldcow · 02/07/2017 14:04

Yes weeeitch - I was inconsolable.

Thank fuck Teddy stopped being a dick.

OP posts:
TheweewitchRoz · 02/07/2017 14:23

I know - glad that drama was resolved quickly. Teddy annoys me generally anyway!

Moanyoldcow · 02/07/2017 16:43

My husband detests Teddy - the venom is hilarious.

Plus, if they went before a judge it clearly isn't cut and dried!

Ex-alcoholic or... fellon who misused public funds, embezzled from his old company and used callgirls... father of the year he ain't!

I actually thought it might come down to Auntie or Scarlett to be guardian.

Maddie is Deacon's daughter but without Rayna, the allegations that Maddie made would surely be called into question.
And Daphne is Teddy's daughter. Who again, isn't exactly an appropriate role model.

We shall see how the series progresses. Really hope the next episode moves on a bit. I can't take anymore tears.

Howaboutthisone · 02/07/2017 22:50

The last two episode have nearly finished me off!
The most recent one has made me bawl throughout. I can't believe they killed off Rayna! Not sure I can forgive them.

FreakinDeacon · 02/07/2017 22:57

I also bawled all the way through this weeks. It is excruciating because my BF also watches but is about 3 weeks behind and has no idea!! I am desperate to talk to her about it!

Hoping the Teddy and Tandy thing has fizzled out. They are so irritating.

MiddleClassProblem · 03/07/2017 00:23

I would like to not cry watching the next ep.

I love hearing Maddie and Daphne sing. I love both their voices.

Where was Luke? He used to be my highlight 😉

tribpot · 03/07/2017 07:35

It's not so tearful in the upcoming episodes, although there are still moments of course.

MiddleClass, CMT trimmed the cast down when they took the show on - partly to save money but also I think to allow the pace of the show to be less frenetic. Luke appeared briefly near the start of the season to flog Wheelin' Dealing' Records to Rayna and hasn't been seen since. It would make more sense really for him to come back to run Highway 65 given that's hardly Deacon's forte.

TheweewitchRoz · 09/07/2017 14:37

Loved the most recent episode & how they finished the songs. Hope it keeps getting better again.

Howaboutthisone · 10/07/2017 16:59

I really enjoyed that episode too. Though I still had a good sob, it felt quite cathartic this time. I think I'm overinvested Blush

Moanyoldcow · 10/07/2017 17:29

Just as I said 'I haven't cried yet this episode' to my husband, Deacon started watching the videos and I was blubbing again.

I loved how they finished the album too,

I also think back to how much I hated Season 1 Avery and how his character has done such a 180.

And Scarlet is kicking Gunnar like an injured puppy. She's screwing him up so badly. I've not liked her at all this season.

OP posts:
BrieAndChilli · 11/07/2017 23:08

I can't stand scarlet, she really annoys me plus she has become a right cow.
Agree it's funny how Avery was such a horrible character to start and now I really like him.

MrsJW15 · 19/07/2017 18:03

Glad I found this thread - and also that I wasn't the only person who sobbed through some of these episodes. Definitely good to hear they are getting back to the music. Some of the story lines are getting a bit ridiculous! Still can't believe they killed off such a major character though.

dingdongdigeridoo · 19/07/2017 20:56

I'm glad Scarlet annoys other people too! She's such a judgy cow in this season. Complete turnaround.

Just caught up on the current season. I like that they are focusing on the core characters now. Glad that Deacon hasn't gone back to drinking as his relapses got boring.

Kinraddie · 17/08/2017 21:13

It's just not the same show without Rayna is it? She was the heart and soul of it all. I enjoy watching Deacon, Maddie and Daphne but everyone else? Juliette has had so many personality u-turns i can't follow what she's thinking. And what does Will see in Zach? He's awful. Not sure how much longer I can stick with the show.

tribpot · 17/08/2017 21:25

Where are you up to? I don't want to spoiler anything but I think I can say the following:

  1. Agreed, the show is not the same without Rayna. And particularly without a strong female lead who is taking care of business, both literally and metaphorically.
  1. The show is lost because Hayden Panettiere, through no fault of her own, isn't able to step up. Her scenes are nearly all being shot separately - there are some very jarring moments where Deacon says 'I've got everyone together .. er, Juliette thought she could make it but she can't'.

I don't see how the show continues now, with both leading ladies out of it. Perhaps HP will be able to rejoin the cast properly next season - I hope so, although of course it's more important that she is well.

Moanyoldcow · 17/08/2017 22:29

I've not watched the most recent episode in the UK - I'm just not feeling it. I'm gutted as this was my favourite show for ages - my husband and I were addicts.

I cannot bear what's going on with Scarlet, Avery and Juliette just aren't 'right' and all the fannying about with Highway 65 and that weirdo is boring the shit out of me.

The Scarlet storyline on particular I detest. I hate she fell for that abusive twunt too. He's a moron and Gunner should leave her to her moody shit.

OP posts:
eyebrowsonfleek · 18/08/2017 11:43

I used to love Nashville but am considering dumping it forever.

I miss Rayna and am irritated with Maddie. The Gunnar/Scarlet relationship is just horrible to watch.

Does Juliette really think that Maddie will never find out about the stolen song?

Why has Will been relegated to boyfriend of rich guy? Previous seasons spent a lot of time and effort on his struggles as a gay country music star.

Has Layla retired after Jeff's death?

Can Luke record some new music or go on tour to make some money and build himself up?

Now that Maddie and Clay have broken up will we ever hear about him again?

tribpot · 19/08/2017 09:27

I made it to the end of the series but more in the hopes of it ever getting better than anything else.

I think Layla has gone to Sadieville (promising singer appears for 2-3 episodes and then disappears, never to be heard from again - there are lots of other examples).

The much-touted new characters they brought in mid-season have not made much of an impression. I do think trying to keep the series going without Rayna is likely to be impossible. I'm surprised CMT thought it was worth reviving it, as they must have known Connie Britton intended to leave.

dingdongdigeridoo · 20/08/2017 13:44

They often have a super talented singer show up and then disappear! I think it's because many of them are real life music stars so can't make much commitment. I liked Sadie and wish she'd stuck around.

I kind of miss Layla because she's so terrible.

Show just isn't working for me right now because they're trying to shove the spotlight on Maddie who was always a minor character. I actually can't stand the character now. Every song of hers sound exactly the same with that breathy voice. Yuck.

Yes it's a shame that Scarlet, Gunnar and Will have such boring stories now too. Plus the drama between Juliette and Avery just feels forced. Is she really that paranoid about the gospel lady?

dingdongdigeridoo · 03/09/2017 14:25

Last episode was too sad too watch. As soon as those thugs showed up I knew that'd be the way the show would go. It's wrapped up that storyline far too conveniently.
