Catching up on iplayer. My friend's daughter is in Soul Train. Cheesy Saturday night tv. I'd like it more if the riff offs were less scripted.

Watching first episode now. They were clearly biased towards LMA from the start. Didn't even attempt to hide it.

And yeah, the riff offs aren't riff offs. They are too rehearsed and fake.

Disappointing.

Is it fair to put professional singers (even if they are only cheesy cruise liner professionals)against well meaning amateurs? I mean, I could take on Bradley Wiggins any day*, but I reckon he would win.

I usually like Mel, but she is cringy on this. And then there are the Rif Zoffs.

It was like watching a car crash - I couldn't turn away. That Lady Gaga cover was a travesty.

None of them seem to have actually heard s choir.

And the 'riff off' - what the fuck is that contrived shit? A riff off is not rehearsed - didn't the producers watch the movie?

Why do they leave Gareth's mic on when the choirs are singing - you can hear him say stuff like 'this is absolute shite' and 'I'm going to fix it so this bunch win' (not really, but they do leave his mic on and it's off putting )

I'm kind of hooked on this because it's so awful. Gareth trying to be funky is so Alan Partridge, it makes me cringe but in a good way

Is the stage the same one they used in 'I want to be Gary Barlow' slightly refurbished ? It's cheap as hell.

What is the point of Deke (both on this programme and in general) ?

Has Kelis got fish on her blouse ? She wants to be careful Seal doesn't bite her.

Deke works with the choirs before the shows on musical arrangements, riff off, opening number etc I think.

Deke basically is the one that has made Gareth's nightmare come to life.

Is anyone still watching this?! I am, just for the one or two genuine musical moments in the hyper-edited schmaltz of it all!

I am watching because my dd absolutely loves it. The gold ones look so painfully middleaged and sensible.

I imagine there's a bunch of teenagers somewhere screaming "Mum/ dad, you are so embarrassing! My life is ruined!"
