RuPauls Drag Race - any fans on mumsnet?

Just wondered if anyone else watches Rupauls Drag Race? I'm currently watching Season 9 on Netflix, having rewatched the previous 8 seasons too many times to admit!

(I may also be guilty of searching too many RPDR videos on YouTube; Untucked, Fashion Photo Review & Pit Stop)

Ha ha, you're not alone. This is one of my tv guilty pleasures too. At the moment it's on every night on some very obscure channel and I have it on series link the shame

Dolly80 · 20/05/2017 13:27

No shame Poppy. It could be worse, you could find yourself randomly humming Rupaul songs whilst doing the housework...not that I do that of course Blush

Just discovered it this week as Sara Pascoe was talking about it on guilty feminist podcast. Brilliant guilty pleasure viewing.

ReadingIsFundamental · 20/05/2017 13:36

Oh, I love it too! I hadn't realised Untucked was available on YouTube, so I'll search it out, thanks. All time favourites? It would've been Sharon Needles but I think she's got very plastic since she won. I think Alaska is one of the best who's ever been on the show and I loved Katya & Bianca too.

Gatekeeper · 20/05/2017 13:41

My 14 year old daughter loves it but I makes me cringe as I really don't like drag. I made a right twit.of me self though when dd was watching it with her boyfriend; I was walking past them on the sofa and I stopped awhile to watch a bit. "when do they get in the cars?" says me to incredulous silence and then laughter Blushx10000

Nettletheelf · 20/05/2017 14:44

I bloody love it. Jinkx Monsoon (who won the last series I've watched) went on tour with her 'Grey Gardens' show last autumn...it was fabulous, darling!

Dolly80 · 20/05/2017 15:11

Reading - some of the episodes of untucked are better than the actual episodes. Some great arguments between the queens.

Bianca is one of my faves, I like Raja too, I used to watch when he was a make up artist on Americas Next Top Model so enjoyed seeing another side to him in season 3.

Another good youtube video to find is drag queens reading mean comments - their comebacks are hilarious. And if you have Netflix watch season 9, it's been a good one so far.

I loved Bianca too. I love the fact the whole format of the show is basically ANTM but with funnier tasks and considerably wittier comebacks from the contestants.

toomuchfaster · 20/05/2017 19:15

I lurve this!! Am annoyed season 9 is coming one episode at a time! I also didn't realise Untucked is on YouTube, so exciting!!

ReadingIsFundamental · 20/05/2017 21:56

Thanks for the info Dolly, I'll be youtubing furiously tonight! I've been a wee bit disappointed by season 9 so far - I only like Valentina and Sasha (not sure I've got the right names - the stunningly beautiful one & the bald avant garde one.)Though Peppermint's lip sync was amazing a few weeks ago.

JustRosieHere · 20/05/2017 21:59

I am addicted to this show! I've watched all of them far too many times and like you watch the YouTube shows too. My kids even know some Rupaul songs as I find myself singing them. I also confess to enjoying Alaskas music! All time favourite has got to be Jinkx

ReadingIsFundamental · 20/05/2017 22:02

Will anyone else admit to having watched Hurricane Bianca on Netflix? Or just me? Blush

JustRosieHere · 20/05/2017 22:07

Me! I've also watched Paris is burning and Mommie Dearest because of the references made on the show. My Netflix thinks I'm gay now and makes some interesting recommendations Blush

HeyRoly · 20/05/2017 22:11

Oh my goodness, Drag Race was the cultural highlight of 2016 for me. I devoured all the seasons on Netflix and got completely obsessed. Jumped for joy when they announced they'd be airing season 9 the day after it aired in the States Grin

I too have watched Hurricane Bianca. Keep meaning to watch Paris Is Burning as well.

There's also a wealth of stuff on YouTube. The WOWPresents channel has more stuff than I have time to watch. Willam's "Beatdown" is funny too.

AnnoyingKitten · 20/05/2017 22:12

I've just started season 9. My all time favourite is Alyssa Edwards. When I've finished this I'm going to watch the Allstars.

supermodel · 20/05/2017 22:15

Just started watching this, watched season 7 so far, I love it.

ophiotaurus · 20/05/2017 22:17

It's my fav program!! Alaska and Bianca are my favs. Didn't know about untucked either I will have a look for it!

HeyRoly · 20/05/2017 22:22

I have a Bianca t shirt. It's far too big but I ordered it from the US so I couldn't exchange it. I also bumped into a woman wearing a Trixie t shirt in the cafe at John Lewis Westfield Stratford. She had a toddler with her, so if you're a Mumsnetter, hey! I nearly struck up a conversation with you.

Trixie released a country album the other week. I can't stand country music but it's pretty good!

ReadingIsFundamental · 20/05/2017 22:37

I thought Paris is Burning was fantastic, if terribly sad.
I haven't dipped into any of music yet, but I could be tempted!

Summerisdone · 20/05/2017 22:40

I'd been meaning to watch this show for absolute time, then this week I've been off work as toddler had a sickness bug, and I caught it from him as he got better.
So I've done very little for the past five days but watch the Drag Race... I've just now finished season 5 - that's a season a day Blush

Now I'm off to start season 6 Grin

HeyRoly · 20/05/2017 22:53

Oh you lucky thing, season six is the BEST.

Dolly80 · 21/05/2017 01:13

I have found my people. As Rupaul would say...we are all family!

Season 9 has been drama. No spoilers but, there's been some highs and lows. My favourite is probably Sasha.

I've just got in from a night out and am watching the first episode of season two, I'm already loving how civil they are to one another as they enter the work room!

JimmyPestoJunior · 21/05/2017 09:01

I love Drag Race! I'm so pleased that S9 is out on Netflix at the same time as the U.S. I think S6 was my favourite season of all. Has anyone watched the All Stars seasons?

I have a RuPaul playlist on my Spotify account that I play when I'm doing the housework, Cover Girl is brilliant for hoovering along to!

Dolly80 · 21/05/2017 09:32

All Stars 2 is great, lots of drama. I liked a lot of the queens on it.

I haven't seen all of All Stars 1. I have watched some of the LSFYL's though and one of them is fantastic / dramatic (don't want to say much more as it could be a spoiler).

OP posts:
JustRosieHere · 21/05/2017 16:47

It's a shame All stars isn't on Netflix. I have watched both when they where on Tru TV but not sure if they get repeated. Would love to watch All Stars 2 again
