Time for a new thread.

Last night's was the first time in ages I have actually enjoyed watching Corrie. What a difference a good plot twist can make!

Whilst we all recover from the shock of a plot not being immediately obvious from a mile away, just a reminder to everyone on the thread...however obvious a spoiler may seem to you, however many magazines it has been on the cover of, we don't talk about it on here. We are spoiler free.

OP posts:

I don't think they spent a whole 20 minutes on it. But Ken has always been awful. Tons of affairs, crap Dad, he didn't see Peter (or his twin sister) for donkeys years, had nothing to do with Daniel, tells them they are all bad parents. Then Daniel turns up and is now the golden child and he wants to control Daniel after ignoring him for 20 (or whatever) number of years it is.
Sadly I think Ken will survive

ellenanora5 · 28/03/2017 15:00

I won't be bothered one bit if Ken is gone for good, but I reckon he just fell down the stairs, how come he never heard Sinead banging the door down.

It was Adam on the bus, pity he's back.

HouseOfMouse · 28/03/2017 15:22

Disappointingly (and I am just guessing), I suspect that the old fart will survive.

lizzieoak · 28/03/2017 15:39

I seem to have somehow missed Adam's whole backstory. Why was he in Canada and why does he not have a Canadian accent? And why can people on Corrie move to Canada so easily? Do immigration laws not apply to residents of Weatherfield?

woodhill · 28/03/2017 18:15

Ken wouldn't give a child cash. Wouldn't you insist on buying the item yourself or seeing if it needed a repair. Did Ken not notice her original violin in the house?

Housewife2010 · 28/03/2017 18:23

Adam grew up in Bearsden in Glasgow which is why he has a Scottish accent.

Rattata · 28/03/2017 19:10

Peter also grew up in Scotland - but has a northern accent. His twin (Adam's mum) did too but she had a "posh english" accent. Bethany grew up in Italy but has a broad mancunian(?) accent and Italy is now never mentioned. No one seems in the least perturbed at losing £15k with Phelan. I only watch the odd snatch these days ( after 40 years on and off) it is dreadful!

woodhill · 28/03/2017 19:27

Also Eccles must have been put in the kennels as he hasn't been seen for weeks' and where is his food and dishes when there is no kitchen.

lizzieoak · 28/03/2017 20:16

Thanks - I thought he was meant to have grown up in Canada. I could have looked it up, but am sick w a cold (again!), and too ill to Google.

I've known quite a few people from English-speaking families who grew up abroad and they do not end up w very specific local (to their parents) accents. They tend to sound mid-Atlantic or vaguely middle class English or Canadian, depending on the majority of their teachers/fellow students (if in an international school - if Bethany went to regular school in Italy she'd sound Italian). I wish they'd had a stab at her sounding Italian for 5 minutes while she lost her accent.

Clawdy · 28/03/2017 20:34

There is no way they will ever write Ken out, unless he wanted to leave, he is Coronation Street royalty. I heard Rob is returning, but I'm sure it was Adam on the phone with Amy, she sounded very relaxed, and chatted about the key being in usual place. Cant see Adam attacking Ken, though. Unless it was an accident.

eddiemairswife · 28/03/2017 22:19

I thought I saw a glimpse of Eccles yesterday.
I have lived in the West Midlands for over 40 years but still have a South London accent.

stonecircle · 28/03/2017 22:32

No one seems in the least perturbed at losing £15k with Phelan.

^ This !!! I can forgive accents (my strong regional accent shines through despite having lived 300 miles away for the last 40 years). But really. Even if people believe Phelan wasn't involved in Vinny doing a runner, they'd still blame him for not being more careful and would still keep moaning about losing so much money!!

theliverpoolone · 28/03/2017 22:38

Clawdy Adam did pretty much attack Ken a couple of weeks ago over the drugs, so it's quite plausible that he'd attack him again. I still think Ken probably just fell/had another stroke, though, and all this is just red herrings.

Eccles was definitely there last night, sniffing around Ken while he was lying there. hmm, could it have been Eccles, getting his own back for months of neglect?!

eddiemairswife · 28/03/2017 22:51

Eccles is the best Barlow. He deserves a Bafta.

lizzieoak · 28/03/2017 23:11

Once you're an adult you accent doesn't shift much, but kids very much adopt the accent of their peers as a rule. It's minor, but it does distract me at times. It distracts me more that half the street is awol without an explanation lately. And what happened to Fiz's Hope's cancer? And where is Luke?

stonecircle · 28/03/2017 23:18

Hope got the all clear didn't she? And Luke's been in it quite a bit - he was at Amy's concert with Tracey on Monday night.

lizzieoak · 29/03/2017 00:02

I must have missed that about Hope, thanks. I'm in Canada and I think we're 2-3 weeks behind, so I haven't seen Luke (nor anyone bar the Platts and Barlows really, w the exception of Audrey - awol - & the MacDonalds who are mostly there to guru over the taps @ the moment). Where is Roy, Luke, Fizz, Kevin, Phelan (not that I want to see Phelan!), Todd, the vicar, Dev, Dev's kids, Cathy, Yasmine, etc?

Izzy24 · 29/03/2017 07:29

I'm sure it was Amy!

SoTheySentMeA · 29/03/2017 08:36

My mum and I have decided he tripped on eccles and there's going to be weeks and weeks of whodunit only to find he wakes up and says he tripped on eccles and banged his head on the banister or something.

redshoeblueshoe · 29/03/2017 08:53

Can someone explain why Ken was taking the kettle upstairs ?

redshoeblueshoe · 29/03/2017 08:57

Also where does everyone sleep in Eileen's house ? There is Eileen, Phelan - but I assume they are in separate rooms, as she said he could only stay because he had no-where to go. Todd & the vicar I can't stand the vicar and the girl from the cafe

Optimist1 · 29/03/2017 08:58

I wondered that, redshoe, but decided that Phelan had left them without running water in the kitchen so he had to fill up in the bathroom. Not sure the plumbing logistics are sound, though! Smile

redshoeblueshoe · 29/03/2017 09:01

That makes sense

redshoeblueshoe · 29/03/2017 09:03

Though surely Ken would know how to turn the water back on, or maybe its beneath him Grin

BlackDoglet · 29/03/2017 09:09

No water downstairs as there's no kitchen. So, they've been going to upstairs bathroom for water for a few weeks now.

I think they use front room as a bedroom so in Eileen's house, she & Phelan in one room and Todd & Billy in the other with whichever lodger they have in the front room. That's where any sleeps at No1 anyway!
