Might be a long shot as it's tucked away on Sky Arts but it's really interesting and relaxing to watch.

Some of the portraits make the sitter look hideous as well.
I'd only choose one that made me look young and beautiful Grin Grin

DalekBred · 13/02/2017 15:39

youwill same here, it seems a bit cheaty painting them from grids on their tablets, they might as well stay at home and paint a pic from a magazine!

Floralnomad · 14/02/2017 23:13

Only disagreed with one if the final 3 in tonight's show , and very happy with the winner although wouldn't have minded if the other chap had gone through either .

DramaAlpaca · 15/02/2017 22:03

I just watched this week on catch up. I thought the winner was really good, one to watch. There were a couple of particularly poor ones this week though.

I also agree that Christian Hook was the best discovery ever, he's an amazing artist.

DalekBred · 16/02/2017 15:50

didn't mind the chap who won but I preferred the one with the painting on the door!

as long as the woman didn't win, I thought hers was awful.

and on the painting challenge programme -anyone watch that one? I cant believe the public chose the girl with the 'hair painting' as their winner. her 1st offering was just a blob. were the public candiddates for the next Specsavers advert?Grin.

Jjou · 17/02/2017 14:39

This week's winner was decent I thought, but not all that spectacular but I was just relieved that someone with some ability went through after the winner they chose last week - that painting was awful! It had no redeeming qualities imo. There's been a few strange choices between this series and the last series on Landscape Artist.
Will have to look out for the painting challenge on catch-up.

Floralnomad · 21/02/2017 21:13

Thought either of the other 2 finalists should have won tonight , I don't know if it's how the programme is edited but at about 20 minutes in I said to my daughter that they were teeing the Canadian up to be the winner , very much like the first week where it was obvious who was going to win - and not because theirs was the best painting . Makes me wonder if Sky are trying to sell the programme across the Atlantic.

lurkingfromhome · 22/02/2017 09:57

I agree - I think you can often tell throughout the programme from the way it is edited who is going to be the winner and there are definitely some rather weird choices ...

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2017 11:00

I didn't rate the winner this week either.

DalekBred · 22/02/2017 16:13

Floral completely agree with you.
the rtick Wakeman painting was the worst of the RW paintings.

All the Meyer paintings were brilliant, and either of those 2 should have gone through.

didn't like any of the Katy Kissoon ones, I felt IMO no one captured her properly.

and in the painting challenge programme that awful girls blobs and skidmark type ''paintings'' won the public vote AGAIN??????????

Jjou · 23/02/2017 19:53

The gulf in quality between this (and Landscape Artist of the Year) and the Big Painting Challenge is huge imo. Nobody really captured Katy but I though the Hairy Biker guy had 3 good painters to choose from. Was a bit meh about the winner. Not too impressed with most of the winners this series but they're all far, far superior to the artists on the Painting Challenge.

RightOnTheEdge · 23/02/2017 23:10

I didn't like any of the Katy ones. Both the hairy biker ones were great.
I was very surprised at the winner, but then I always am!

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 27/02/2017 17:56

They should ban the use of cameras.
It's a form of cheating to rely on technology.
That's why I prefer The Big Painting Challenge, none of the artists use cameras.
Well they haven't yet.

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 27/02/2017 17:58

Not saying digital cameras don't have their place and aren't useful.
But a competition such as this should be down to skill alone.

Imfinehowareyou · 27/02/2017 22:22

I like seeing them use technology/grids etc. I feel like I'm being shown how to paint. I always assumed that artists just painted it all on the canvas perfectly but knowing the prep makes it seem more possible.

Littlepiglittlepig3letmeIN · 28/02/2017 14:41

I think technology is useful, especially if an artist is being commissioned to paint something and needs to get it really accurate.
But, from a competitive point of view it would be more interesting to see who can go without technology and still paint something amazing.

kwick · 28/02/2017 19:24

I LOVE this and have watched all the previous series on catch-up Grin frank Skinner is ace as are all the judges - but I often do not see what they do!!!

kwick · 28/02/2017 20:50

It is on now!!!

DalekBred · 01/03/2017 15:51

Ah, that's better. The right person won last night, although the womans Chiles painting was good too.

Thought the paintings of Sian Phillips were too Annie Lennox/Shiela Hancock looking IMO.

And Phil Davis, please close your legs dear!

as for the painting challenge prog, at least skidmark girl had some semblance of an elephant this time.

AstrantiaMajor · 08/03/2017 21:03

Anyone watch this week . It was Imelda Staunton
. I thought they did a good job liked the three that got through.

3luckystars · 08/03/2017 21:07

I love this programme so much, I think the presenters and judges are really good. I look forward to it every week and have watched all the other series. It's fantastic!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 08/03/2017 21:39

I'm up as far as the Trevor Eve episode, loving this programme, so relaxing to watch. I only found out about it at the start ofvthis season, glad I did.

3luckystars · 08/03/2017 21:49

You can watch all the other series on catch up, if you write it into the 'search' on SKY, they all appear. I have watched them all while on maternity leave and it is heaven! So calm and I just cannot believe there are so many amazing and talented artists out there.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 08/03/2017 22:19

Yes, we've watched some of the landscape ones on catchup. Sadly we don't get much time for telly watching at the moment (its DD,11 and I that watch) but will try and watch more in the Easter holidays.

DalekBred · 09/03/2017 16:11

that Amercan woman only got through cos she was the only one that did a full body. her paintings are like my 9 years old nieces!

the other 2 that got through were brilliant.

doesn't seem very fair though that mostly the 'proffessionals'' get picked to go through and the 'amateurs' (who, IMO some are MUCH more talented than the so-called proffs are few and far between.

they should have 2 different progs for teach ones, or choose 2 each week, a proff and an am.
