Has anyone watched this? I just binged watched the series and now my mind is blown and I'm a bit frazzled. What does it all mean?

I've seen very mixed reviews of people loving it or hating it, I absolutely loved it and am very excited for the next season, just a shame that binge watching means we have to wait a full year before it comes back 😕

Southsearocks · 28/01/2017 22:35

I've just watched three episodes back to back (home alone). Loving it.

Southsearocks · 28/01/2017 22:36

No idea but I'm not at the end yet!

Corabell · 28/01/2017 22:42

I saw that the reviews were mixed but I was completely drawn in to it and really got drawn into the story telling.

Did anyone notice that the episodes are all different length?

One is only half an hour and others are over an hour. I guess if he programme is made for Netflix they have this flexibility.

I watched it the night it came on Netflix so hadn't seen any reviews at that point. I thought I'd watch an episode or two before bed, before I knew it I was over half way through the season and closer to my get up time than my bed time Grin

I binge watched it over the space of a couple of days. Absolutely loved it. But was really disappointed by the ending. It left a lot of things unanswered. I want to know how she escaped. What happened to the others. And the other stuff I want answered I won't post incase it ruins it for those who haven't yet reached the end of the series. I hope they make another series! But it's going to be one of these over hyped American things where you get a whole other series because it was so popular and yet it still doesn't explain anything. Argh.

Corabell · 28/01/2017 23:16

Yes I'm worried that it will be a never ending ever expanding set of mysteries.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers for people that are not so far along either but I quite liked the ending, but it onlu posed more questions, not fewer.

The makers have no answers.

The two of them, director and star, made a film. That film was as ambiguous and ridiculous as The OA. I'll not put any more detail than that though as I don't want to tomspoil things for anyone.

Basically, they're known for leaving thing 'open to audience interpretation'
(Aka, theuy don't know what they're doing)

Grin

PS...
Watch Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency instead. Its Much better.

LostMyDotBrain · 28/01/2017 23:23

Yep, I've watched. I'm firmly on the fence. It toes the line between ridiculous and intriguing. But then they've ended the series about an episode too early and stopped it from actually being interesting.

DJKKSlider · 28/01/2017 23:29

Also, FWIW, there's a bit of a discussion here from when it first aired:

Just finished it, loved it. Definitely caught my imagination and what a fantastic cast. Particularly fell in love with Irish actor Patrick Gibson as Steve. And Homer too. Can't wait for season 2.

Meowstro · 31/01/2017 23:24

I watched it in a day with DH whilst I was ill over the Christmas period and the ending was good but it does raise more questions than answers, especially as OA, I feel, could be an unreliable narrator (just my opinion and not a spoiler). However, maybe I think that because it'd be more interesting that way. I'm hoping there will be answers but fear a second series would be the same.

Corabell · 01/02/2017 14:41

I just loved the storytelling so much. I didn't know that Steve was played by an Irish lad. I liked his angry teen mood a lot.

We finished watching it last night. What a load of nonsense. When the 5 started doing the movements in the cafeteria, I just laughed. When the makers of the programme don't even know what it all means, how can they expect us to be satisfied viewers. I did like Brit Marling as the OA, she was quite mesmerising to watch, but on the whole, a pile of nonsense.

Seen so many divided opinions about this, but I honestly enjoyed it and how ambiguous/confusing it is! I think there were some flaws in the story but very hooking nonetheless.
