Was all a bit meh for me tonight. I'm not a fan of modern houses and I didn't much like what either of the designers did although Daniela is far and away the most talented of the two and deserved to go through. Richard is just a one trick pony with his bloody chipboard and padded head board and than everything else is is just a mishmash of stuff that doesn't belong together.

Daniela's mural was a terrible idea and there was just too too much of it. It was everywhere. If she'd just done something well on one wall it might have worked but it was all bitty.

I can see why the home owners liked Daniela's lounge but it's as far from what I like in terms of design, colour, furniture, style etc. as it's possible to be .... so it was never going to float my boat anyway.

For me, the best two designers of this series are going up against each other in the next semi, which is a shame. My favourite room so fa remains Oliver's bedroom in the art deco house last week.

RTKangaMummy · 17/01/2017 21:58

The pattern on the headboard clashed as in the lines didn't meet on the panels like a cheap striped shirt where the pattern doesn't match or wall paper patterns that don't meet or patterned tiles not following would drive me mad

RTKangaMummy · 17/01/2017 21:59

Love your house though blue house don't love what she did to it but your view and huge Windows and balcony is brilliant SmileSmileSmileSmile

Hope she came back to finish the painting or did you paint over them?

ElspethFlashman · 17/01/2017 22:27

Thank God Richard is gone! We never have to see another chipboard headboard again!

DH doesn't like Daniella cos she looks like a Footballers Wife. But I think she's a good egg.

NormaSmuff · 17/01/2017 22:44

Not surprised, and pleased that Daniella went throught. couldnt believe she was actually putting up wood cladding Shock but the room overall looked great.

NormaSmuff · 17/01/2017 22:44

My DH thought Daniella was like Posh Becks, another footballer's wife Grin

TheSilveryPussycat · 17/01/2017 22:47

I enjoyed that. Bluehouse1 - what more of a clue do we need (unless tis a clever double bluff).

Did anyone else see a model of Grommet going by on a river boat? Or am I going mad?

trollspoopglitter · 17/01/2017 22:48

I loved how diplomatic Richard's client was about her bedroom - I like the colour but not the texture.

Translation: can your crew rip out the the cheap crap and replace it with proper reclaimed wood treated and stained in a similar colour, please. Oh and Richard is dead to me.

RTKangaMummy · 17/01/2017 22:56

Pussycat no I saw it too GrinGrinGrin

On the front of the barge or whatever the boat was GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Bluehouse1 · 17/01/2017 23:20

Hi all, just come back from drinking wine and watching it at the other contestant's house. We all had a great time, though there was a certain amount of 'OMG did I really say that'
Thanks for the lovely comments (we ARE the blue house). Daniella was lovely. Surprisingly, the chaise has stayed. It's pushed up against the window so we can look down the harbour. We've brought another sofa into the room, so it doesn't look so artisitic, but more useful.
We look red on the final shot because it was really, really hot, and the windows had to be kept closed to keep the noise out.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 17/01/2017 23:22

Blue I need to know if you still have the chaise longue!

PurpleDaisies · 17/01/2017 23:23

Did she ever finish the mural? I'm very envious of your view. Your house is lovely.

Olympiathequeen · 17/01/2017 23:32

Poor Richard. The homeowner was a nightmare. The time to say no to the colours and the furniture was at the initial meeting, not keep popping in and asking for things to be changed. Very unfair on him. He wasn't the best though and the artwork was pretty dire. That would be painted over immediately.

evrybuddy · 18/01/2017 07:23

The favouritism of the judges for Daniela is really grating now.

Why, of all the other semi-finalists, is she put against the 'weaker' wildcard Richard?

Why not put her against one of the stronger guys who now have to knock each other out to face-off with her - easy round for Daniela.

Poor Richard gets a moany pensioner who really could only cope with having her beige topped up while Daniela gets the trendier silver couple.

Daniela gets a beautiful picture window room.

Richard gets 2 beige boxrooms and Mrs 'Please, I couldn't cope with changing them.'

Richard was hobbled from the off and as for telling Richard to stand up to his client - which self-employed interior designer in the 'real world' can tell their client to 'do one'?

I'd love to have seen Daniela cope with Mrs Moany in the box rooms - that would have been a proper test not the contrived 'drama' of the chaise-longue, chucked in by the producers to make it appear as if she had the same pressures as Richard.

The judges keep saying Daniela is an 'outstanding 'stylist' and it's clear they've favoured her from the beginning so she will win.

She's okay, but this is supposed to be interior design not just 'styling'.

The whole episode was weighed in her favour last night - why?

MyCatsHateMLMtoo · 18/01/2017 07:41

evry that's an interesting view that the judges favoured Daniela because I thought the opposite; they seemed to be very impressed with Richard as a designer, bigging him up, even seeming to admire the chipboard that dominates his themes, particularly this bedroom, and the padded headboard was a dreadul dreary pattern/colour and didn't even pattern-match across the three panels! Awful Sad.

I didn't like that gimmiky bedside light thing he did last week either. Looks totally impractical to any normal person who presumably uses their bedside table to put hair clips, books and magazines, drinks, reading glasses etc. The glass vase thing would never stay in the right position and the bulb would be vulnerable to breaking.

Having said that, Daniele, although better on the day than Richard, is not a contender to win either. Whilst the mural she painted in one corner (mountains and bridge) looked ok, the rest of it looked amateurish, rushed and unfinished. I wouldn't be surprised if Bluehouse painted over the wardrobe bit (and the boat) in particular.

hollyisalovelyname · 18/01/2017 07:43

Norma I thought Daniella looked very like Victoria Beckham too. Smile

evrybuddy · 18/01/2017 08:01

I think the judges' narration is simply meant to create the illusion of competition or drama.
It's meant to disguise who they think will win not reveal it - otherwise we could all switch off quite quickly.

Of course, they already know who has won before they add the voiceover track.

It was clear as soon as the homeowners and the the rooms had been revealed that Richard was going to lose.

The judges made an attempt to 'talk up his role' but he was damned from the off.

Whoever had been given Richard's homeowner would have lost.

If Daniela was really as great as the judges believed they should have tested her against the difficult homeowner (they knew before they started that woman was a pain) - instead she was coasting from the off - she couldn't lose, despite some really obvious faults.

But then why was Daniela give the semi-final against the, by defintion, weaker wildcard/best loser?

Clearly that's an advantage not granted to the other semi-finalists.

Daniela has been favoured from round 1 in tone and effusiveness of judges remarks.

If she doesn't win outright, it will be because she blatantly isn't up to the standard of the other finalist - who I imagine will be the theatre designer guy - who hasn't been give a free-ride against a best loser.

NormaSmuff · 18/01/2017 08:09

A lot is in the editing i agree, and that irritates me, that and the accompanying music. overload.
but Richard did lose twice, at least.
i couldnt have picked a winner last night. richard was destined to fail with the homeowner seen to be questioning his use of the Screen, and colour of paint, he was either meant to be brave and force his idea, to cow down to the home owner

CremeEggThief · 18/01/2017 08:12

Norma and Holly, I said that about Daniella looking like Posh Spice on the opening night!

Hoping for a good semi tonight, with Oliver and Nicholas.

Screamer1 · 18/01/2017 08:13

I know non of you seem to think Daniela is any good, but I really like her. I think she has a really strong style. I like Oliver the best, but the final would be between those two if it were down to me. I think that theatre guys stuff is way too 'set' like.

NormaSmuff · 18/01/2017 08:15

no, i loved her room but I am not a judge

Cosmicglitterpug · 18/01/2017 08:17

I might not be remembering correctly, but didn't the mumsnetter who was on last year say the home owners are encouraged to question/not like what the designers are doing? I may have dreamt that.

Cosmicglitterpug · 18/01/2017 08:19

I don't like Daniella's style, it's too glossy and backlit for my taste, but she does seem quite good. Her interior design is an extension of her look I think.

evrybuddy · 18/01/2017 08:49

I don't think Daniela is either outstandingly good or bad - she's fine, she's okay.

That's why the mega enthusiasm of the judges is so weird.

The first time she appeared, Daniel and Kelly bigger her up so much, I thought - 'Does she know them?' - it was just like ridiculous.

But here she is in the final - quelle surprise!

Saw it coming from her first appearance and it had nothing to do with her design - and everything to do with what the judges were signalling in the voiceover.

'Hey viewers, Daniela is good, good good...'

Bit brainwashy without ever really explaining why she is better than the others.

I don't think she's bad - but there is not enough discernible difference to justify the bigging up that she gets.

Written in the stars eh?
