Anyone see it and what do you think?

I quite enjoyed it, a few funny lines and interesting concept (and Goran is always easy to watch Grin )

Worth a series link in this house!

Lucy's sister disappeared because in the very first episode they saved the Hindenburg and one of the surviving passengers married a relative of Lucy's and Lucy's sister was never born. It then came to light that Lucy had a different father who we now know is the head of Rittenberg. I suppose they would have to do something to prevent the marriage that happened to change things back so that sister is born - very confusing. Mind you it hasn't explained why Lucy's mother isn't ill now!

I'm not sure when or where the journal came from or if that is yet to be explained. We know Wyatt tried to send a telegram to his wife from Las Vegas to stop her walking out on him the night she was murdered but it didn't make any difference. I think there's more to come on that storyline.

iklboo · 19/02/2017 17:39

We're really enjoying it - which like pp have said probably means it will be cancelled. Not taking itself too seriously and we're intrigued about whether Flynn is good, bad or has his own agenda. Just watched episode 10.

bigredboat · 19/02/2017 17:47

It's a bit silly but I am quite enjoying it, plus I have had a crush on Goran Visnic since his ER days!

ElspethFlashman · 19/02/2017 17:54

I'm enjoying it far more than I expected. The acting is good, it fairly zips along, and I love a bit of History Lite.

I like how they address in nearly every episode how utterly shit it always was to be Black.

Still don't have a balls what nationality Goran is meant to be in it though.

Rhubarb01 · 19/02/2017 18:46

You're right Elspeth that they certainly don't shy away from the racial inequality of almost every era and as much of it is American history there's quite a bit. However, it also strikes me that the fact that Rufus is often an 'outsider' when they time travel is a useful plot device as he's very often the one who keeps watch, raises the alarm and saves the day.

picklemepopcorn · 19/02/2017 19:45

Yes and the patronising sexism too. Fantastic. Yeah, there is lots I like about it... If they bring back the bloke's wife, then what happens to him and Lucy?

ElspethFlashman · 19/02/2017 20:01

Well I think they've made it clear he's still in love with his wife.

And I actually think there's more chemistry between her and Flynn. And I would prefer if the Trio were a platonic Scooby Gang.

Mind you, even if the wife was never killed it doesn't mean happy ever after. They were having problems before she died.

Rhubarb01 · 23/02/2017 15:25

Did anyone find last night's a bit creepy? I've heard of the murder castle but found that a bit dark. Loved Houdini though. I wish they could have taken him with them. He'd have been a great addition to the team.

ElspethFlashman · 24/02/2017 08:19

I didn't but then I had read the book a few years back (The Devil in White City) so none of it was new to me.

I really hope this show gets renewed, its no sure thing apparently.

iklboo · 24/02/2017 11:33

It's really good. Which probably guarantees it won't get renewed Grin

ElspethFlashman · 24/02/2017 11:49

I heard too many people are watching it online as opposed to on TV.

Rhubarb01 · 24/02/2017 22:02

I saw something like that as well Elspeth and I also understand there's a dispute about the copyright for the show as there's a claim it's based on a similar Spanish drama. I hope it gets a second season but who knows. Mind you, compared to British TV, 16 episodes of a show is pretty good - in lots of cases here that's the equivalent of 2 or 3 series. It's a shame, however, if something ends with lots of plot lines left hanging - don't start me on Home Fires again!

picklemepopcorn · 25/02/2017 06:54

I'd never heard of the murder hotel, can anyone remember what it was called so I can look it up? I loved the Houdini stuff.

iklboo · 25/02/2017 07:46

It was The Worlds Fair Hotel I think

ElspethFlashman · 25/02/2017 08:33

Just look up HH Holmes. Awful stuff .

GreenFirefly · 25/02/2017 08:34

DH and I are still watching. It took about 5 episodes to get me hooked. It's not Quantum Leap though!Sad

TizzyDongue · 25/02/2017 08:43

I've never heard of murder castle either. Watching this with my eldest - he loves it, still hasn't quite gripped me though. I think my lack of historical knowledge is to blame - DS loves history and knows more than I do.

Enjoyed Houdini turning up - know about him!!

iklboo · 25/02/2017 16:23

I'm wondering if it's because it's US history-centric? We know the big stuff like Lincoln & the moon landings, but Benedict Arnold could have been a variation of Eggs Benedict for all I knew Grin

shortsaint · 25/02/2017 18:15

I'm watching with my ds too (14) - he loves it. It's preposterous of course but great telly and also accurate historically so teaches you stuff. I knew nothing about that Chicago hotel but fascinating. Like the nod to knowing / anachronisms.

TizzyDongue · 25/02/2017 21:41

iklboo I'm going to go along with that that way i can kid myself it's not me being rubbish at any history

picklemepopcorn · 25/02/2017 22:12

Flynn's showing his true nasty colours again. He's stopped smarming over her and gone back to his old sociopathic tricks.

Rhubarb01 · 02/03/2017 17:18

Interesting developments last night both in the present and the past and where they meet. I enjoyed the mix of elements in that episode and the ever mercurial Flynn. I didn't know a lot about Jesse James apart from him being an outlaw but he certainly came across as rather unpleasant and as for Lucy, goodness me, she has crossed a line, in fact they're all beginning to struggle with the rights and wrongs of history.

MommaGee · 03/03/2017 01:12

We love this in our house but not watched this week's. Hope they don't leave too many loose ends is or doesn't get renewed else I might go a bit Sheldon

iklboo · 03/03/2017 09:58

I've read that they have given the series an ending, but it's one they could still pick up if they get renewed. We won't know till May when NBC make a decision. They need to look further afield than just the US viewing figures to see how well it's performing before they make a decision. It must cost fortunes to make though.

ElspethFlashman · 03/03/2017 13:42

I do like all the moral greyness that they're troubled by.

However I didn't buy for a minute that Liz (?) Would have shot JJ in the back like that. With all the discussion they've had about murder being A Bad Thing, it's ridiculous that she would do that just cos she's a bit depressed.
