That sounds interesting Fooky - on his show or in actual court? Would you tell us what happened?

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 05/12/2016 04:37

Danny deserves to do well if he's doing 9-11 hours of training a day
(isn't minimum something like 13 a week).
Wish they had shown training hours stats on ITT like they used to.
Bottom line: with a natural talent or nurtured talent at college you have an advantage, of course you do, but to get to the level of dancing like a pro (cha cha, QS, charleston, samba) you can only do that on the hours put in. And he's putting in the hours.

He worked on Hollyoaks for six years. Les Miz was as a kid. Legally Blonde not much dancing in his role. Wicked more as the troupe rather than role he understudied but six year gap (same as it being years since Lou was at Conti).
He clearly needed a career boost/revamp and is making sure he will get stage parts following this. Fair play.

But I still feel him and Lou are Dancebots. Just cannot get excited. I was rooting for Ed/Rob. Now they're gone I have to base it on whose dances have I played back the most. Which would be Ore's, despite him getting on my tits whenever he's interviewed.

Fiderer · 05/12/2016 05:24

(Blimey Kimmy You're up early. Was going to post after you on the homework thread but it's too early for my blood pressure to rise facing another week of secondary here, at work & 3 children in the system.)

Agree it's not just the technical side steps-wise, I like to see a bit of spark. Ed had the enthusiasm, Rob also with more skill. Claudia has it but AJ seems v up himself. She'd have been better off with Vincent.

Louise and Danny, competent but dull. And Oti is all me-me-me-me. Kevin is also peculiarly soulless.

Ore doing well but Karen ruins it for me.

Would like Claudia to win.

the public get all offended by someone being naturally talented

I'm not offended by natural talent. I actually think that Ed had natural talent in there but he was 20 years too old, stiff and unfit. Had it been nurtured through a performing arts school and subsequent jobs I think it would have been very different. He had spent years is desk bound role as a politician though. Still more entertaining and with more spark than Danny though!

SoupDragon · 05/12/2016 06:23

I want Claudia orOre to win now.

ppeatfruit · 05/12/2016 07:58

Me too Soup I'm liking Danny now and his dancing is brilliant but he hasn't had the 'journey' those two have had.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/12/2016 08:44

We can all post definitions of ringer that suit our argument, SoupDragon. Here are the ones I was using - none of which apply to Danny:

informal
an athlete or horse fraudulently substituted for another in a competition or event.
"it was discovered that the winning horse was a ringer"

a (1) : one that enters a competition under false representations

Ringer, in sports idiom, an impostor, especially one whose pretense is intended to gain an advantage in a competition

SoupDragon · 05/12/2016 09:19

Well they aren't the ones I am using when I call him a ringer. I used it in the cont set of the definition I copied from a dictionary and posted here. It's not like I made it up.

You said the definitions of a ringer all suggest someone who is deliberately attempting to deceive or cheat or lie about their experience. and you were wrong.

You don't think he's a Ringer, I do think he's a Ringer, but the definition I use is perfectly valid.

MyWineTime · 05/12/2016 09:49

I like Danny, I enjoy watching him dance.
I quite like Louise too.
Ore I'm not so taken with, and although Claudia is good, she just doesn't grab my attention as much as I want her to.
I want Danny to win - I'm really not that fussed over the cries of ringer. It's an entertainment show about dancing and I want to be entertained. Yes, Ed did that in bucketloads but I want the dancing to win through in the end.

Bollard · 05/12/2016 09:51

I'm a lurker! Can't decide who I'd like to win.
I loved Claudia's salsa but sometimes AJs choreography is a bit hectic. I would have loved to see her do the AT with Vincent. I don't mind that she's un-exciting in interview - she's very young and spends all her time doing gymnastics. I get more pissed off by Ore's autocue-cliche unsparky remarks and soupy emotion.
I quite like Joanne and Kevin Clifton. I know they can be a bit sexless but dance is their family business, maybe shaking their booty and pouting are a step too far for them. I actually quite like it that there is room amongst the pros for both a vampy showy style, and the Cliftons' approach. I was going to say more restrained but then remembered how froufrou Kevin's choreography can be!!
I think Louise's performances have improved hugely since her AT and I really enjoyed her Quickstep. I know she's had lots of training and performance experience, but I'm about her age and the skills I had 20 years ago seem like a lifetime away. I find it believable that after being at home with her children she is finding it difficult to get back into her 20 year old foxy performer skin.
Danny - I love watching him and Oti. They're a great pairing. I like his candour about his experience.
Couldn't decide if Rinder was charmingly enthusiastic or a phoney bitch. I think the former. I think he decided on the media "story" he was going to work with to maintain his privacy and settled on "teachers are great" and "the joy of dance" but didn't always have the acting skills to pull it off. Fair play to him not dragging his husband into the audience if he didn't want to. I think Gethin is a tool so rather liked Rinder being so rude to him on ITT a couple of weeks ago even though it contributed to my wondering if he's a phoney bitch. I thought Oksana was great.
I liked the storyline that Ed would win and see through the 2016 theme of insane election results whilst giving us something to be harmlessly appalled about. Sorry that's all over.
Stream of consciousness over!

Fiderer · 05/12/2016 09:52

The show is supposed to be "Can't dance. Learns to dance." I accept most actors/TV contestants have had stage or dance lessons. Also must be hard to find people who've had no experience of performing in one way or another.

Still think if you've done it professionally you shouldn't be up against someone who never has.

OP posts:
CocktailQueen · 05/12/2016 09:53

I HATE the way Ore bites his lip when he's criticised. I just want to shout at home: 'Grow up! You're not four!!'

Loved Claudia's dance this week. Fantastic. Great isolations - and good to see her acting more too.

Elaine Paige's voice is not what it used to be but she is a pro, and still has a great voice. Thought her breathing was a bit odd - breathing in the middle of lines. Ah well.

Theromanempire · 05/12/2016 10:11

But Jay was a 'ringer' last year - and actually more so than Danny as he wasn't exactly upfront about his time at college doing a dance degree (or whatever qualification it was).

But Jay was really popular and I suspect won by a landslide...the story was there though wasn't it? Unsure, unconfident to start and then suddenly the Jive happened and no one else stood a chance!

Bearing in mind how d-list many of the celebs have been over the last few years, the beeb must be literally scratching around for contestants every year as it is without adding in the condition of 'never having danced' before.

SapphireStrange · 05/12/2016 10:30

I LIKED Kellie Bright and thought she deserved to win. Judging by the reception she always got from the gang in Claudia's sections, so did the pros.

OnlyLiving, why do you say Will Y was a prima donna? Is there a story about him leaving? [nosey]

I love Chicago as much as the next person, but Strictly are ALWAYS doing Chicago numbers. Didn't like the cats' paws styling of their hand movements in the dance either. And enough with the chairography!

Elaine Paige was a travesty. Bizarre phrasing and interpretation, some embarrassing duff notes towards the end. I love her and saw her in the original cast of Cats when I was little, but she needs to give it up, sadly.

I actually liked Tess's dress/skirt; nice to see her in something shorter and with a nice simple, non-clingy line. She looked fresh and modern for a change.

Sad to see Rinder go, but it was his time. I thought Oksana was very sweet, and very classy saying thank you to everyone behind the scenes; normally only the slebs remember to say that.

I haven't liked Danny much but he has gone up in my estimation since last night; when he was called safe and Rinder (or Ore, can't remember) was called for the dance-off, Danny was very quick to go over and say sorry or good luck or whatever they say to each other, while Oti was still standing on her mark looking triumphant.

ElspethFlashman · 05/12/2016 10:54

I suspect Danny is a nice genuine bloke. I don't get much sense of ego there. He's a stunning dancer and performer so I don't mind if he wins.

He also seems very intimidated by Gloati (tm Monkseal), which is hilarious.

Ore is SO charismatic in character on the floor......and then in person he is devoid of personality. It's wierd. Has he more personality on ITT? I never see it.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 05/12/2016 12:16

Sapph enough with the chairography? Chicago's all about "only sitting on chairs doncha know?!" Wink
Glotiâ„¢ is smug but in fairness, hasn't had that much to be gloaty about in her two seasons of the German version.

SapphireStrange · 05/12/2016 12:29

Kimmy, I know, but I think that's what I mean – I feel like we're ALWAYS seeing Chicago chairography (unless we're seeing Chicago 'Cell Block Tango' prison-bars-ography!).

I'd like them to do a different number from a different show, just for a change.

ppeatfruit · 05/12/2016 13:30

Are we always seeing Chicago dances on SCD ? I haven't watched all the series but I don't remember any. If anything the 'chairs' routine was borrowed from Cabaret wasn't it?. Though it might be the other way round I don't remember the dates of the 2 shows Xmas Grin

Oh I just wanted to say that I rewatched the SCD with Louise's wardrobe malfunction in it and yes I was wrong Blush in the actual dance she was done up but while confronting the judges and she was upstairs with Claud W. She was undone!! Odd that she didn't notice !

SapphireStrange · 05/12/2016 13:43

Seems like it to me, ppeat! The pros have done what feels like loads, and a fair number of the slebs have done them too. I can remember at least one Cell Block Tango and an All That Jazz or two.

Yes, the chairs are very Cabaret, but Strictly seems to conflate those two.

WalrusGumboot · 05/12/2016 15:36

Louise is bland and has the same facial expression each week.

Has she had some work done? Could that be why?

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 05/12/2016 15:56

Sapph I was making a joke at previous contestant Denise Van Outen's expense. When fending off claims she was the ringiest ringer that ever rung, she claimed that in Chicago "all she did was sit on a chair".
Grin

SapphireStrange · 05/12/2016 15:59

Oh yes, Kimmy, I'd forgotten about that. Grin I'm so glad she didn't win

MrsJamin · 05/12/2016 16:02

Anita and Gleb did cell block tango, and Georgia and JV did hot honey rag , both from last year, Lisa Riley did a charleston to all that jazz and there was a pro dance to cell block tango seven years ago.
