Hmm, pic one is a little too reminiscent of Frank Spencer jen. But yes to pic two.

moojangles · 10/09/2016 18:58

Loving pic 2

pixieg1rl · 10/09/2016 19:00

Love stolen pic 2

cjwoofwoof · 10/09/2016 19:03

He's definitely had a new posh top set jen hence the lisp

MaddieMoo82 · 10/09/2016 19:13

Hi orph!!
Yes to picture 2 Grin that will definately be keeping me company.
Hmmm yes I have pix to thank for my growing love of the archers, although I'm a bit behind with the omnibuses as didn't want to start at the trial.

MaddieMoo82 · 10/09/2016 19:15

I still haven't noticed the teeth/lisp, I'm obviously concentrating hard on bulge hunting the storyline.

pixieg1rl · 10/09/2016 19:36

Have you heard Graham Seed aka Nigel is going to be on the jury orph? I'm hoping as Nigel's vengeful ghost who can then go on to haunt Freddie and his sense of entitlement.

GloriaGaynor · 10/09/2016 21:12

I really enjoyed this first episode, it's got me hooked. I was a bit Hmm about the fridge.

This will be heresy to many on this thread but I have to say MK is so much better than LT.

I wanted to watch the first series mainly due to CJ but it was too unlikely.
There is no way on earth that a goodlooking Sloane like CJ would for go for plain dumpy girl with no charisma and no unfortunately no charm. It was so unconvincing as to be unwatchable sadly, really not helped by her dead acting and zero chemistry between them.

So, I'm finding MK much more convincing as GL and she actually has chemistry with CJ. I hope she is going to dump her worthy dull bf for him, but I fear not. I'm looking forward to seeing Elvis again, but I think he needs a more armed forces haircut.

PS who on God's earth would marry Mark Wright!

Richtea19 · 10/09/2016 21:48

Yippee, welcome back orph , my fab double act is back, woofs been holding her end up without you!

PassTheCremeEggs · 10/09/2016 22:24

Watching again for the second time and a few things are annoying me.

The double act briefing from CJ and Osman. So weird and irritating. "I'll say one line and you say the next". Like an annoying two best men speech.

GL's foray into dentistry... Would a combat medic actually do this?!

The repeated ASAP ASAP ASAPs. Stop! Too much!!

Soundtrack not as good as series 1.

Kinders' replacement - (Kingy, is it?) - zero character.

Would a random infantry platoon (actually not even a platoon! A section!) actually be charging into houses apprehending Al-shabaab suspects? This is surely special forces' domain.

CJ's character is really quite boring. I hope it gets better as it goes on but his character was so well developed by the end of series 1 that it seems like a massive step back.

CJ is clearly doing stunningly badly in his career. An officer is never (as far as I know) in command of a section alone. A section is part of a platoon, and the platoon is commanded by the most junior officers. A captain of CJ's age would be well past being in command of a platoon, let alone a small section (usually commanded by an NCO).

The whole storyline. It's so similar to series 1! (The drama, not the love story). Medic goes beyond normal duties and gets too involved. Someone needs saving. Danger ensues etc etc. It's like a parody of itself. Even the characters comment on its similarity - as if to excuse it to the audience!

The grounding is all there but it seems to deliver only on at about 65% of what it could be. The script and characterisation just all seems quite weak.

BUT - if I had all five episodes to watch in one go, I would. And nothing will stop me from keeping watching. I just really hope it gets better!

(Luckily CJ is still immensely hot. Worth watching just for this).

Ilovelblue · 10/09/2016 23:00

Oooh somebody new has popped up since I last looked - hi there Gloria!

Well, there's certainly a raft of different views on here now. CremeEggs, I've stopped criticising the things I think are wrong with it and am sitting back just enjoying the ride as it were. For the moment at least.

Gloria, yes you will find most folk who have been on this thread for the past two years loved Molly Dawes and of course our love for CJ knows no bounds. If you've followed these threads, you will know he's even done a UK tour! Sadly of course this is all in our imagination! I was so pleased the BBC decided to commission a new series of Our Girl and that Ben Aldridge also signed up that I was fairly ambivalent about a new female medic. After all, if Captain James was going to be in it, there's no way he and Molly could have served together anyway so I didn't mind when Lacey Turner turned the role down this time and they had to write a new character in. I like Michelle Keegan and think she's made quite an impact so far.

Agree with you about the Elvis hair style - very nice but hardly the military short back and sides. Maybe Special Forces soldiers are exempt from such regulations! Looking forward to seeing more of him in future episodes.

Cluesue · 10/09/2016 23:27

Was really disappointed to be honest,I want LT back.

kuiakaituhi · 11/09/2016 00:08

Have been dipping in,missed the banter.
Question for Gloria Gaynor. If you don't like a programme, why bother (a) watching it or (b) slagging it off on here?

Just a wee teaser for woof and other connoisseurs of fine male thighs and other bits. The All Blacks were here in my home town last night. It's Sunday morning here. Double delights really, they were playing Argentina. What a feast, at Hamilton Rugby Park. My heart is still racing and have had to have two cool showers. Those Argys are almost as damaging to my hormone levels as the ABs.

hHaven't seen the new programme yet, obviously. When is some techie miscreant going to post it (illegally) on YouTube? I have ordered the DVDs but they won't get here till November and the NZBC won't show it till next year, sadly.

PassTheCremeEggs · 11/09/2016 01:07

Ilove - fair one. I will also strive to be positive and relish the good bits. This is what comes of being over invested, sorry!

Rhubarb01 · 11/09/2016 01:32

Very late pop in here for me tonight. Hi Gloria interesting to hear another perspective on episode one. As much as it's true that the vast majority, if not all of us, who have posted on here for a long time really liked the CJ and Molly relationship in series one, I can certainly remember us having a lot of debate about whether it was likely and whether it would last if it did happenn. I think the general view was that it probably wasn't very likely BUT not impossible and we were all happy to believe in the fairytale aspect of it. In some ways it's the classic romantic tale of two people from differing backgrounds, meeting in unlikely circumstances and falling in love (think Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre and a whole host of others). I like MK and I think she was good but I have to disagree about LT - I found her performance engaging and touching and I think she and CJ had great chemistry but that's just my view.

As for what happens to Georgie by the end, I think it's a pretty certain bet that IF she chooses someone it will be the Dr or Elvis but I wouldn't even mind betting that she turns down both of them to go her own independent way. I really don't think she'll end up with CJ.

cremeeggs lots of valid points. I've been doing my own share of criticising as well but it's hardly surprising we are given the amount of time we've had to wait for this and how high are expectations were/are. I guess we'll all have to wait out for a few more episodes to really know for sure what we feel but at least we're interested enough to rewatch and comment on it, so that can't be a bad thing. Whatever happens I will have enjoyed the whole five weeks or so we've spent talking about it.

OK must turn out the light now. Goodnight folks!

kuiakaituhi · 11/09/2016 05:52

Yee-Hah!! Just found it on YouTube. have watched once, need to have a think about it. My first impression is that TG set the context of the new mission very quickly and that the unpredictability of life in the refugee camps was very obvious from the start. Action packed, excellent pace, the menacing nature of much of camp life very rapidly established

CJ does look a bit tired and older. Don't know if I like all the facial fuzz.

I think the situation with the boy, the rotten mouth and the Al Shabaab father was a parallel with the Bashira subplot in Series One. Will be interesting to see how that develops.

Liked the way we were reassured about Molly through banter with CJ and Fingers, ie "right" medic. I think TG has very definitely been watching, reading us and other fans/critics. GTake a bow, woof for Sugartits.

Where are Nude Nut and Kinders? I miss them both.

Rhubarb01 · 11/09/2016 07:02

Hi back again burning the candle at both ends - but on another sporting mission again this morning as devoted parent grrr!

Kuia so glad you've finally managed to see episode 1 after having to read all our cryptic like comments about it. Smile

Like you I was under the impression for two days that when CJ is being teased by Fingers over Molly and how their romance started that when Fingers says "he likes a medic!" that CJ replies "the right one" and I thought ahhhh! However, on Friday when we did the watch along I had the subtitles up and he actually says "Strike one" because then Fingers makes another comment and he says "Strike Two". I wouldn't have known without the subtitles because I agree it sounds like "right one" (and I think he should have said that - much better!!). I think it's a case of slight mumbling . woof is adamant that new teeth are involved but I always forget to look in any detail once he appears on the screen.

Looking forward to your next observations on second viewing!

pixieg1rl · 11/09/2016 08:05

Glad you found it online kuia. That CJ/Fingers scene was brilliant. My favourite so far.

MaddieMoo82 · 11/09/2016 08:15

Morning. Glad it's been put on YouTube kuia and you don't have to wait till november. Loved all the 2 section banter - fingers and CJ and also the bit when MK is pulling the maggots out and monk starts singing. CJ and fingers reactions are fab!! I'm also a definate fan of CJs facial fuzz Grin

pixieg1rl · 11/09/2016 08:28

Oh yes mads, loving the CJ stubble. Much nicer than the clean shaven version

AlittleinlustwithRA · 11/09/2016 09:24

Really enjoying this thread and how you ladies dissect the series.

Welcome Gloria.

Going back to series 1, I think CJ found Molly to be a breath of fresh air and he was intrigued by her from the word go - hence seeking her out and lingering around her. He wasn't just attracted to her phsically - we'll have to agree to disagree on her being plain and dumpy. She made him question what he believed in and though he made out that he found it infuriating, he loved her for the fact that she got 'involved' and that she had a kind and caring heart.

Rhu - it's not just you - I struggle with the mumbling too. I've rewatched with subtitles. I wish CJ had said the 'right one' rather than 'strike one.' Really enjoying CJ's exchanges with Two section and Fingers has really grown on me - I didn't like him in series 1. Am I sad that I now skip through to the CJ bits and the Molly mentions?

kazzaD66 · 11/09/2016 11:02

Ali Either I'm sad aswell or we both have very good taste (or a bit of both). My DH and DS know nothing about my CJ obsession so if I only have a limited time to re-watch part of OG whilst they're out, I'm not going to waste time watching the lads in 2 Section dick around - amusing as they may be - when I could be admiring the (many) finer attributes of CJ. Isn't it what a fast forward button was invented for?

cjwoofwoof · 11/09/2016 11:59

Morning! Gah I'm with you on the sports mom front Rhu - footy season kicks off today and I've drawn the short straw Sad Luckily it's now a 2pm ko so Sunday lie-ins can remain yay!

kuia glad you've found Ep 1 at last and can keep up. One word re rugby - lucky goat - alright I know that's two but you do appear to be rather greedy when it comes to ample thigh action. Hope Sonny Boy isnt missing me too much while I attend to AT, CJ and Elvis's needs. Normally I like him down under but when he's 12000 miles away it's a bit more tricky Grin. Loving your Antipodean tact and diplomacy re Glorias comments - the poor woman will never come back to us now. Gloriaaaaaa come baaaaack we need you by our side asap!!! Grin Grin

Ditto re the mumbling front, but it has been six months since my last ear syringing. It's them oop north accents Wink

Rhubarb01 · 11/09/2016 13:59

Afternoon - what's that old poem "If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same..." I feel like adding "You'll be a more successful parent than me". I had two kids in sporting action this morning (different sports, different venues) and naturally it's a game of two halves - one comes home in triumph with medals the other has a mini disaster. I'm so pleased for one but my heart bleeds for how miserable the other one feels. One of these flipping days they will both have a good day at the same time and my cup will runneth over plus I'll ask them both to 'retire' immediately.

Welcome to Kazz lovely to have newbies and ditto to woof's comment, please come back Gloria because we don't always agree on here but we still like to have a laugh about it and discuss our opinions at massive length.
