Yes Cod I agree- he is given a lot of screen time for merely a minor character.
Been great to watch some quality drama with no ex soapstars in main roles.

oh darn thought i'd been clever thinking this up - must have read this thread 2 days ago and subliminally reprocessed it

so is the chief copper going to cop off with his colleague or simone then? i'd say simone and then colleague will shaft her somehow

ArcticRoll · 31/01/2007 11:54

I misse some of the dialogue last night as dh was faffing around with topbox-is the victim's mother's strained relationship with her father significant at all?

Furball · 31/01/2007 11:54

i think it's the army guy too and also it was his baby.

don't know what sarahs upto though, very odd.

very good though

Ok missed last night as watched CSI instead but will watch later today. BUT I wondered if Kyle was involved as little girl said Mum was asleep - and maybe she'd seen her when she was with Kyle?

Marina · 31/01/2007 13:45

My post on here got eaten when the maintenance started up.
I wonder if Kyle also figures in the final plot resolution. Agree the soldier is also a distinct possibility.
Am it's not on tonight! Terrific acting. Penelope Wilton and Patrick Malahide are especially good IMO

flatmouse · 31/01/2007 13:54

just posted on CSI thread i thought it was army-buddy whodunnit.

Not majorly impressed but watchable.

puddle · 31/01/2007 13:57

I am really enjoying it.

What about the beardy young copper?

foxinsocks · 31/01/2007 14:01

I'm really enjoying it too.

Love the Sarah character and David Oyelowo is brilliant as usual. In fact, all the acting has been fabulous.

foxinsocks · 31/01/2007 14:06

I guess the soldier has something to do with it - he always looks a bit guilty doesn't he.

I really like the way that even quite important characters like the 1st husband and the annoying police press office munchkin are being played by non-sleb actors, most of whom have theatre experience.
I think Sarah Smart is giving a super performance but I am finding the character slightly implausible tbh
David Oyelowo is just stunning
Apparently Janet McTeer's character gets monstered at her retirement drinkies and says some things she later wishes she hasn't
Beardy cop is the dad of Samantha Morton's child and legged it just after her birth
And I think Kyle is Roy Kinnear's son...

foxinsocks · 31/01/2007 14:17

I also love the way the journalists are all bastards (TV loves that characterisation!) - was quite pleased they showed the young lad journalist looking a bit remorseful.

Think Sarah works as long as you regard as a complete head case.

I'm very much looking forward to Thursday - about the first time in AGES I can remember really looking forward to something on TV.

Marina · 31/01/2007 14:18

Young lad one of our graduates FIS
That hair is real

puddle · 31/01/2007 14:21

I have a theory that it's the young policeman based purely on the fact that i thought I say a blankety thing in the press officer's flat the same colour as the fibres under leanne's nails.

David O is just breathtakingly good I think.

And the parents - my heart broke for the father last night when he went in to see her body - that was such a moving scene.

Could there be some child-abuse stuff between Penelope Wilton's character and her father, could Kyle and the grandfather be part of some sort of ring, using the caravan?

The detective tried to persuade him not to but it ended with him insisting on going in there and the door closing.

Marina · 31/01/2007 14:25

FIS = term of endearment for foxinsocks
That is an interesting theory there puddle

foxinsocks · 31/01/2007 14:25

FIS - foxinsocks

ooh puddle - have you got your detective hat on?

that scene was heartbreaking (Hugh B and the father both excellent) - that and the David O speach about life moving on

foxinsocks · 31/01/2007 14:26

lol marina - he does have great hair! V dandy!
