Yep completely over my head too.

Why did Kyle get the army man involved when the army man though he was a twit and he kept chucking him out of the army careers office saying he was a waster.

Why did Jim the bearded policeman take a call from someone when he was talking to a pissed up amy? What did he have to do with anything?

Where was the husband - what did he have to do with it? Why did Leanne buy a flight?

Whoose baby was it? could go on and on and on. Very confusing.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only confused one!! So did Kyle just ring the army guy because he didn't know anyone else or because he was involved somewhere? Oh I do hope someone clever comes along soon!!

Gary must have been something to do with the fag smuggling - Kyle calls him when he realises he's f*cked up ('as Gary will know what to do'). Gary doesn't want his business buggered so disposes of Leanne and murders the Macedonian because he screwed up and knew the police were looking for him. Kyle never said anything in prison because of Gary.

I imagine it was Matt's baby - the ticket to France could have been to get money from wassisface as he said.

So, Kyle and the Macedonian were in the back of the van, Leanne comes over kicks off, gets pushed down and knocked out, so Kyle and Mac take her back to the caravan.

Kyle hears Leanne saying "oh no I've left my kids" so he goes out in the van but only finds Rosie. He doesn't know what to do, so rings Gary the army guy as Gary is his role model, hero etc. (he's always trying to join up, get posters ). Gary comes round and dumps Leanne in the lake.

But why did Gary do that, instead of telling his best mate Matt that he's found his wife??

because she was all mucked up (cracked head, drugged) and he felt responsible (?) as the whole thing would have to be explained and he'd be implicated for the fag smuggling

Oh, so Gary must have known the Macedonian from when he was in the Balkans and then set up the smuggling afterwards.

Perhaps he killed the Macedonian because he knew what happened but couldn't get to Kyle as he got arrested very early on.

I don't think so 3rdwm. His only connection with Leanne was that she threatened to blow the whistle on his lucrative Balkan cigarettes scam. I don't think they were involved romantically.
I really liked the way we were left to draw our own conclusions about some plot lines, eg Sarah's future involvement with the family, and why Tonya was suddenly quite to stay with Matt rather than go to France as planned.
Everyone was fantastic but Penelope Wilton in that scene by her father's bedside was just too upsetting for words.

Also loved the way that Hugh Bonneville's theory as to what happened in the van, which sounded so implausible when scoffed at by Janet McTeer, was pretty much 100% accurate. V clever.

OK, (!) my understanding is - Leanne was abducted by fag seller and Kyle as seller hit her and knocked her out. When came around she was worried about children and so was Kyle so he went to find them. He found them both, got Rosie in the car but the dog bit him before he could get the boy and so he sped off. Took Rosie back to her mother in caravan, he was using caravan as got the key from his mother, who got the key from the grandfather.
He then called the squaddie, who was his hero (but how the hell would he have his number??!) who came to the caravan. I had no idea squaddie was involved with the fag smuggling, well done whoever spotted that! Saw Leanne was in a bad way and decided easier to kill her than release her as he was illegally smuggling fags so he would be in trouble with the police. Told Kyle she was dead when she was really unconscious or drugged and Kyle then tipped her in the lake. He then looked after the girl until the junior reporter found them.
The baby was her husbands as when the police found the body they said it would take 24 hours to identify the body and 48 to identify the father of unborn baby, so they would definitely know who the father was.
Phew! Does anyone agree????!!!!

OH god, confused again! So was Kyle also involved in the cigarette smuggling? Must be, else why was he with the flower seller. So, were Kyle, flower seller and squaddie running this altogether? Or was Kyle and flower seller running it, how do we know squaddie had anything to do with cigarette smuggling?

Ah think we're getting somewhere now! I reckon all three were in the fag smuggling ring with Gary being the "brains" of the operation. Kyle could have (nod to the pedants) been returning from putting Leanne into the lake when he was arrested.

It was extremely satisfying to have it all resolved and I liked the last episode for it's slow pace, lack of car chases and edge of your seat-ness.

The scene with Penelope Wilton and her father was unbearable to watch - what a tremendous actress she is.

Am hoping that The two detective characters belly dance off into the sunset together.
