I miss Breaking Bad

DH and I watched the Breaking Bad box set last year, and it took over our lives; when we had finished watching it, we were bereft.
I just feel that nothing else will ever be such engrossing viewing; enjoyed Better Call Saul, but it just wasn't the same.
Any recommendations to fill a Breaking Bad- shaped hole in our lives?
Would like to buy a DVD box set to take on upcoming UK holiday.

LIMITLESS!!!!

If you like Breaking Bad, you must like Limitless.

MissBeaHaving · 04/07/2016 15:42

Have you tried Ray Donovan or Sons of Anarchy ?
To be honest though, nothing really compares to BB.

MassiveStrumpet · 04/07/2016 15:46

Narcos is pretty good.

But the only shows as well-written as BB are Better Call Saul and Orange is The New Black.

Most shows are at least a bit rubbish.

JennyOnAPlate · 04/07/2016 16:00

Prison break!

saylortwift · 04/07/2016 16:09

Orphan black and bates motel are brilliant, I second Ray Donovan too.
We are currently re watching Spartacus. Worth a watch if that's your thing too.

saylortwift · 04/07/2016 16:10

Oh and really enjoyed hemlock grove too.

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 04/07/2016 16:13

I agree nothing compares to BB. Orange is the new black is very well written and I find I really care about the characters so would definitely recommend watching it.

Plenty of suggestions for me here, thanks all.

Homeland
Really enjoyed that

NyronNosworthy · 04/07/2016 17:22

Dexter- I filled my Breaking Bad void with Dexter and loved it

NoahVale · 04/07/2016 17:23

And An Honorable Woman

weirdsister · 04/07/2016 17:25

I agree that Homeland is brilliant.
I didn't think I'd find anything else as addictive as BB, but I am even more obsessed with Game of Thrones. You've got to get past the first series before the addiction kicks in though.

MassiveStrumpet · 04/07/2016 20:30

Everything I've tried, to fill the gaps between OITNB and Better Call Saul, has been just really inferior. Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Orphan Black, The Good Wife, Mr Robot, House of Cards... all fall very short. Some of them have been at least diverting. Most of them jump the shark at some point. And some are actually terrible.

Narcos had an excellent first season and I'm hoping the second is also good.

The first season of Fargo was absolutely fantastic. As good as BB or OITNB. But I couldn't get into the second season at all.

SueGeneris · 04/07/2016 20:32

It's old but if you haven't seen it The Wire is really excellent.

MassiveStrumpet · 04/07/2016 20:33

Since each season of Fargo is a different story with different characters, I really recommend that you watch it. It's truly great. I have always enjoyed Billy Bob Thornton and this was the most fun he's been since Bad Santa. Lots of people liked the second season, but even if you don't, you'll have enjoyed the first.

MassiveStrumpet · 04/07/2016 20:36

The Wire is on my list of things to watch. I'm sceptical, because people also rave about Sons of Anarchy, but maybe it really is great.

I started Boardwalk Empire and I have no objections to it yet.

Incidentally, I use Kodi to find things not otherwise available, so I may see things others can't. Kodi is software for streaming. Using it will come down to your technical savvy and how you feel about watching things without paying.

Cel982 · 04/07/2016 20:38

The Americans is really, really good.

MassiveStrumpet · 04/07/2016 20:38

Homeland was one of those shows I initially liked but then quickly got sick of. I have little patience for plots driven by the irrational actions of silly people.

cheapandcheerful · 04/07/2016 20:39

Definitely Sons of Anarchy! It took me a few episodes to get into it but I LOVED it by the end and am still in the grieving process about 2 months after its conclusion.

MassiveStrumpet · 04/07/2016 20:40

I tried The Americans. I don't remember anything bad about it, but it failed to keep me watching.

I think binge watching a show will reveal weaknesses that aren't as apparent when you watch once a week. Little flaws will become glaring. That's what's so amazing about OITNB... You can binge it in a weekend and never get bored or irritated with it. It's like a 13 hour movie. Fargo was the same.

Mrstumbletap · 04/07/2016 20:42

Another saying Prison break! Amazing!!

Mrstumbletap · 04/07/2016 20:44

Oh and 'Suits' is my all time favourite now and the new series starts again next week

Milzilla · 04/07/2016 20:53

Game of Thrones?

heartonsleeve22 · 04/07/2016 23:01

Game of Thrones, Prison Break, The Blacklist, House of Cards. I binged watched the lot! X
