I've been looking up the Small Council. Next meeting'll be a bit sparsely attended Grin

Anyone left apart from Cersei & Qyburn? He'll be Coin & Grand Maester. And Hand.

What about Jaime? Is he Lord Commander of the Kingsguard?

I'd forgotten Renly & Stannis were on Robert's Small Council. Or was that only in the books?

NeedACleverNN · 29/06/2016 19:33

i have them all on DVD apart from the latest season which I will buy ASAP

Lweji · 29/06/2016 19:41

Has anyone seen that it seems the series creators say there will only be two more series with 10-15 episodes between them and to finish in 2018?

I don't think Ned is necessarily shocked by what Lyanna tells him, just shocked in general at finding her covered in blood and with a baby.

EverySongbirdSays · 29/06/2016 19:51

I'll wait til it's done before buying a special edition boxset, possibly the American one if it's "better" Blush

I know that some of you haven't read the books and probably won't ever but if you do want like a quick run up on pre-show history, without reading the books, this is is a good place to start.

For those of us who are just geeks, it's a good concise pulling together of details.

EverySongbirdSays · 29/06/2016 20:56

This one about The Targaryens is also very useful

Felascloak · 29/06/2016 20:59

I think the show is relying on fan theories for their plots and the books will be totally different!
Or GRRM will just give up altogether which would be annoying

OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 21:02

I've just found out I can do screen shots from my phone when watching GoT online Smile

So here is Ned before Lyanna tells him the name

OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 21:03

And here he is just after

I think the midwife in the ToJ scene will be significant, hence the camera lingering on her for a while. I reckon Bran will go find her to help prove Jon's legitimacy.

OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 21:05

Apart from being so blimmin dark, not sure if the pictures convey that there is a distinct reaction to whatever Lyanna whispered to him. More than might be expected from "his name is Targaryen-ish", IMHO

OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 21:09

I agree Sausage - is she Wylla, do we think?

Every - don't forget US DVDs don't work on UK players

I've got free access to all seasons until the end of the year through our cable subscription - not sure what happens after then...

EverySongbirdSays · 29/06/2016 21:12

Yes - I know Oleanna I did have an R1 player at one stage, and I can region switch my Mac but the current DVD player I have I haven't been able to switch region on. The next one I buy I won't be fooled again!

OP posts:
Middleoftheroad · 29/06/2016 21:17

Sausage I also agree. They focussed on her and also lingered on Ned's saw so what is tge significance of both?

OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 21:28

Saw? Or sword?

If sword, there's a theory that the pommel represents the "bloody star" that the prophesized lord will be born under...

EverySongbirdSays · 29/06/2016 21:39

It's not Ned's sword, it's Arthur Dayne's sword and it's called Starfall,

propping it next to the bloody bedding, was significant as Azor Ahai, the Prince that Was Promised was said to have been born under a "bleeding star" (likely a comet, which they haven't shown, but have made an allusion using props)

OP posts:
CaitAgusMadra · 29/06/2016 21:49

I think the sword is called Dawn. The Dayne's seat is called Starfall

CaitAgusMadra · 29/06/2016 21:50

Oooh and if I remember correctly the sword was said to have been forged from a piece of fallen star....

AliceInHinterland · 29/06/2016 21:52

I think Lyanna seems pretty cheerful for someone about to die - I think the implication is that it was all consensual. I also doubt she would name her son an obvious Targ name if she wanted him hidden. Jon it is for me.
Poor Arthur D died in vain really.
I love the idea of gender fluid dragons, it seems to give them a lot of credit for having a sense of self. They do understand English so I suppose it's possible! More excited by the idea of ice dragons though.
I'm not as bothered by the time thing as some others - I think the last episode put a lot of chess pieces in place, Queen in the Sarf and King in the Norf thinking they had a new status quo... I think it was very effective.
Do we have any ide of scale? I always thought broadly Westeros=UK Essos=Europe so travel times wouldn't necessarily be that long on a decent horse on good roads, and even less by ship.

AliceInHinterland · 29/06/2016 22:03

And Every next season you need to add something to your OP about Gendry (not Pod - likely not rowing just gone somewhere nice for a quiet life). I still maintain that he is not a loose end - he served his purpose by demonstrating Stannis's decency.
In many cases I think the show has done a good job of rationalising/combining characters (eg combing Gendry/Edric/Pod and eliminating LSH, which hopefully they have done).

Mumanddadtoone · 29/06/2016 23:02

HBO have confirmed Jons parentage, Rhaegar is his father, I know most of you know that but there was some talk early in the thread about him possibly being Roberts son

SerJorahsSecondChoice · 29/06/2016 23:43

I thought the dragon Bran and Summer saw was just the comet

SerJorahsSecondChoice · 29/06/2016 23:46

Also I had issues with Cersei's terrible post-Shame hairstyle right up to the point where she was crowned when it suddenly occurred to me how masculinising it was - Tywin with teats indeed. Now I think that was probably the whole point.

OlennasWimple · 29/06/2016 23:53

Ok, some questions / things I noted from re-watching the start of the first series, if you'll indulge me!!

  • is Theon the only one alive who knows that the Lannisters were involved in Bran's accident?
  • how did LF get a Valerian steel dagger with dragon bone handle? Where is it now? (It's the one the assassin used in Bran's room)
  • presumably every reference to "you've got my blood" from Ned to Jon is a reference to Stark heritage from Lyanna?
