Game of Thrones Question

I have a random thought/theory bouncing around my head, but it all rests on who's older, Robb or Jon?

Did Ned and Cat get married before or after the Tower of Joy?

Does anyone know; I can't get my hands on the books at the minute, and various web site have different opinions, is it ever made clear?

I think they were already married, and Ned came home with Jon... don't know about Rob though?

TheseLittleEarthquakes · 13/06/2016 11:36

They were definitely married before the ToJ. I think Robb is older.

BuunyChops · 13/06/2016 11:50

I know from the books that it's claimed that Robb was conceived on the wedding night. . .

But it's never really made clear.

As the revelation from Bran's vision that Ned Stark wasn't as honest and honourable as made out to be made me start musing a few things.

But it all depends on Jon being older than Robb by 9 months. . .

It's confused. Technically I think it's Jon. The story is that Catelyn arrived to Winterfell with baby Robb to find Jon already there with a nurse - I think - though I'm not sure that when Ned found Jon Catelyn was pregnant making Jon older.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 13/06/2016 15:40

Robb is older. Bobby's Rebellion lasted a year, Robb was born 9 months into it. Jon was born after the Rebellion was over, when Ned went to find Lyanna at the ToJ. He'd just been born then - the book mentions the blood and afterbirth I believe.

Robb is conceived before the war begins but for Ned to witness Jon's birth at the end of the war, Jon has to be around 3 months younger.

BuunyChops · 15/06/2016 09:20

Thanks to those who replied; I've tried to post this about 3 times now with no luck so getting a bit paranoid.

I've always had a niggle about how Cat treated Jon; I know it can't be easy seeing physical evidence of your husband's infidelity, but with the way they lived, she could have as much or as little to do with his upbringing as she wanted. It's not like they're stuck in a 3 bed semi. . . .

I know we'll all assumed that Jon is Lyanna's child, but what if he isn't? What if it's all been misdirection from the beginning?
What if, if there was a child it's actually someone else?

Just running along that line, from Bran's vision we now know that Ned wasn't always as honourable.

What if he'd done a Robb? Or rather Robb unknowingly followed his father's lead and Ned had married and fathered a legitimate child-Jon- while away at war.

But Robert needed the Tullys on side so what if there was some back room negotiations; Ned was persuaded to put aside his first marriage and marry Cat with one of the stipulations being that Cat & Ned child would be heir.

And this was the reason for Cat's continuing animosity towards Jon; guilt at denying him his birthright and fear that the truth would come out???

But like I said it depends on Jon being older than Robb

To be honest it's so nearly accepted as fact that R+L=J; it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't or if George changes it just to be contrary Grin

Yes I know I need to get out more.........

BuunnyChops - why aren't you on the Game Of Thrones threads?

We've discussed all this including whether R+L in fact = D and B + A = J

BuunyChops · 15/06/2016 16:14

What where????

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/2660348-GAME-OF-THRONES-S7E8-SPOILERS-AND-FAN-THEORY-DISCUSSION-WARNING-2AM-SHOWING-ONWARDS?pg=1

This is this weeks thread. I start them at roughly 1.30am every Monday.

There are 7 others as well because we start a new one each week. But this is the current one. We are your people (Also I don't know how you didn't spot it before!)

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/06/2016 16:39

I enjoy the weekly episode-by-episode threads. The only reason I don't contribute is that I haven't read the books (apart from the first one when it was first published) and the threads seem quite book-orientated.

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 16:53

To be honest I think it is me and one other who do tend to go a bit

BUT IN THE BOOKS

They are actually show threads but what happens is people come on thread with questions and generally we are able to answer them because of knowledge from the book not so much the show, like who the Blackfish is stuff like that.

It's not actually meant to be a book thread, so sorry if it feels that way!

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 16:55

To be honest I do think GOT fans who haven't read the books at this point, need to sort themselves out Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/06/2016 19:41

I do intend to read the rest of the books. We even have them in the house, as the teenagers have read / are reading them. I'm deliberately avoiding reading them at the same time as watching the show, to avoid confusion about the book/show discrepancies.

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/06/2016 19:43

I do think I deserve a couple of fan points for having read the first book in the 1990s. Smile

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 20:12

You definitely do deserve points - some of the books can be a struggle at times. Storm Of Swords is the best one.

Flemingo · 16/06/2016 11:19

I was searching for a thread on GoT and found this. I had always believed that Robb was elder than Jon because of the hints in book.

BuunyChops · 16/06/2016 13:43

Oh that one, yes I avoid it till after i watch on Monday I think I posted on one of the earlier ones under a different name...........

Thing is now there's no book they can do anything really.

OP posts:
TheHiphopopotamus · 16/06/2016 19:34

We've discussed all this including whether R+L in fact = D and B + A = J

I think I've worked out R+L=D but can you enlighten me as to B+A=J? (Obviously, I know who J is Grin). I love all these fan theories but I forget to check the GoT spoilers thread.

EverySongbirdSays · 16/06/2016 19:48

It's not really a "spoilers thread" as such - more speculation it's more to warn people to tread carefully if they haven't seen the latest episode.

R+L = D and B + A = J is a baby swap plot

That Lyanna gave birth to Dany and Ned took her and Arthur Dayne's sword to Dorne and swapped her for Jon who was his older brothers Brandon's bastard with Ashara Dayne.

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/06/2016 20:02

Thank you, that's interesting.

I referred to it as the spoilers thread just for reference more than anything. I can't always watch it on Monday so tend to avoid it and then forget to look at the discussion even though I find it fascinating.

I actually found YouTube's Alt Shift X's theory about the Arya storyline better than what actually happened in the show. I think that's the problem with theorising. Some of them are a lot better than what actually happens and I end up a bit disappointed.

BuunyChops · 16/06/2016 20:34

I'm still a bit meh about Arya…

OP posts:
TheHiphopopotamus · 16/06/2016 20:48

I'm still a bit meh about Arya

In what way bunny? She's never been one of my favourite characters, I could always take her or leave her.

EverySongbirdSays · 16/06/2016 21:15

The Alt Shift X videos are great
