Anyone catch this with the brilliant Lesley Manville?

Reminds me of Gavin and Stacy a bit, not laugh out of comedy but it's all in the slightly too long pausesGrin

Can't wait for the next one!Smile

First one is on iPlayer atm.

Trying to think of something intelligent, analytical and insightful to say about 'Mum' but I can't be bothered. I just like the interaction of the characters and the gentle humour.

My take on it was that she was an intelligent, middle-aged mum surrounded by the deluded and ignorant, but because of her age and social position (minus husband) was the one treated like a fool Hmm. I know it was humourus but I kind of felt her pain. These are the people in her life, so what is she to do? I thought it was quite moving when she was suddenly shocked her son might be going to Australia. OTOH her endless patience and passivity in the face of dealing with it all could get wearing... it also seems strange insensitive that its never crossed her mind about the love interest of her old friend. But I liked some of the observations and comparisons of different generations and so on, and the general gentle realism.

Ah that was lovely tonight, glad it's coming back for another series

Yeah, really sweet and oddly realistic despite the caricatures. Mum and Michael carry it so well. She's just mum to everyone else but a wise generous woman to the audience and the lovely Michael. Really enjoying the irony.

The last episode was perfect and I'm thrilled it's returning for a new series next year.

Loved the last one too. You could tell the son really loved Kelly. They were very similar so very believable.

Sheath I thought they did that beautifully showing true love between those two, both prepared to put the other one first, really lovely.Thats why I like it, there is real love in the family but in a very un American way, just underplayed Brit style
