Just saw a lovely trailer, it starts on 26th May. Can't wait

It's a nice looking dress pattern.

HalsallRedux · 13/06/2016 21:18

I'm watching with my Dm, who taught me to sew on her hand-cranked 'vintage' Singer, c. 1910 (the machine - that's not when she taught me to sew btw).

We're commenting on Esme's interesting ensemble...

SoupDragon · 13/06/2016 21:18

It's the ikea dress :)

dillite · 13/06/2016 21:19

Hehe at Patrick grabbing his stick

CatherineDeB · 13/06/2016 21:19

Well, even my new ££££ machine doesn't do much more than those! If you can't do a lapped zip you shouldn't be sewing.

As someone who sews tailored clothes it it like car crash TV!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/06/2016 21:19

They don't line anything do they? I'm not sure it would be that comfy to wear!

HalsallRedux · 13/06/2016 21:19

We were just saying that if any if them had ever done sashing in a patchwork quilt, this dress would have been a breeze.

SoupDragon · 13/06/2016 21:23

Charlotte definitely snorted at Patrick grabbing his stick :)

CatherineDeB · 13/06/2016 21:23

Patrick looks knackered, I remember reading about him having a hard time in my aunt's local rag, no idea if it was the same time as this recording obvs!

Roussette · 13/06/2016 21:23

Halsall my DM had a hand cranked machine too, gosh that brings back memories

PVC... blimey

SoupDragon · 13/06/2016 21:24

I think the sewing quality is poor because they're rushing.

dillite · 13/06/2016 21:24

Don't you just wish you could experience those outfits on a crowded tube on a hot summers day in the 60's? I can smell them from here.

Roussette · 13/06/2016 21:25

Those trousers of Esme's made out of a PVC shower curtain are bleedin' awful!!

HalsallRedux · 13/06/2016 21:25

I loved that machine Roussette. It had a lovely pointy shuttle as a bobbin.

dillite · 13/06/2016 21:28

All of them are so chatty today.

Roussette · 13/06/2016 21:28

Gosh yes I remember, and it was so slow wasn't it... but at least the machine never ran away with you like an electric one!

Roussette · 13/06/2016 21:29

Joyce is in her element this week!

I can smell the PVC from here too! I had some PVC boots, god they stunk!

CatherineDeB · 13/06/2016 21:30

I have got two handcranks and two other vintage machines, I love them, also have a new, basic mechanical Bernina.

The www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/featherweight/221k does buttonholes better than any modern machine!

SoupDragon · 13/06/2016 21:30

I wonder if Patrick will grab his stick in the pvc mac challenge?

CatherineDeB · 13/06/2016 21:30

Absolutely bloody grim.

dillite · 13/06/2016 21:31

Rumana looks so embarrassed!

dillite · 13/06/2016 21:33

You know what Esme's dress reminds me of? Those rag mats that people make out of scraps.

HalsallRedux · 13/06/2016 21:34

I like the look of that featherweight machine CatherineDeB

Does anyone follow the Male Pattern Boldness blog? He's funny, very informative about sewing, and seems to own about 50 vintage machines, many of which he literally picked up off the streets of NY when they were left out with the trash.

Roussette · 13/06/2016 21:34

Wow, Joyce has nailed it tonight!

SoupDragon · 13/06/2016 21:35

They've all done pretty well considering the fabric.
