Neighbours Thread - Is Lassiter's the most dangerous hotel in the world?

1002 replies

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/04/2016 19:52

Starting a new thread ready for the dramas of next week.

Can't believe I'll be on holiday when the all the excitement is going on. That was seriously bad planning.

If Paul dies then I'm not coming home.

My wish list for death: Amy, her son, her mum, Sonya, Ben & Steph.

Wasn't John's memory triggered before Ben and Xanthe came in though? (I could be wrong, I'm just getting so confused now!)

I thought that mark showed John the picture of jacka which triggered john's memory and that was before Ben and Xanthe were there? Also, as you say LoveWine it was weird that they were asked to look at Julie's photo because they already know her! And see if as it's her hotel surely it wouldn't be unusual for her to be seen there. None of it makes sense.

I know I'm massively over thinking this but it's really bugging me!

MagpieCursedTea · 23/06/2016 23:14

I think they showed the photo of Julie purely to avoid saying her name and giving away the big reveal before she was arrested.

Lovewineandchocs · 23/06/2016 23:59

Yes Magpie that was my thought too, and the fact that they said "this person" rather than guy or woman. ASpider, I honestly can't remember which came first-I thought John was there after Ben and Xanthe but would need to watch it again. I will say that I think having John talk to the older priest was a random and completely unnecessary plot device as it put the idea of John being a priest into people's heads-it would have been much more effective if he'd been shown in his priest's collar with no prior warning.

ASpiderInThebath · 24/06/2016 10:21

Okay saddo alert but I had a look through the previous episode and john's memory returns before Ben and Xanthe come to the station. It starts off with Wendy the witness confessing she was bribed then Mark shows John the photo of a person which triggers his memory. I think the photo must be Julie quill, I'm guessing that Wendy confessed Julie was bribing her so Mark showed John a photo of Julie? But it's just absolutely ridiculous plot because John would've seen Julie multiple times before then! And then I think like you said LoveWine Mark showed the photo to Ben and Xanthe who said they'd seen Julie talking the a man going by Jacka's description. It's all just too far fetched for me though! Also, I agree that they shouldn't have shown John talking to the priest! Who is writing this shit?! Grin

Lovewineandchocs · 24/06/2016 10:46

Ah. That's even worse then because John had actually seen Julie at Lassiters earlier that day and got an obvious jolt of recognition. You're right, the writing's woeful! I read an interview with Andrew Morley where he said that there had been little clues all along such as John holding his keys like rosary beads (who the hell would notice that?!) and him being a good listener and giving advice! I cant actually recall even one instance of him listening and giving advice to anyone! Still, he'll probably leave the priesthood in a few weeks Grin

Having a good lol at Zoe's hospital room number 308 in the famous one roomed Erinsborough Hospital

mollie123 · 24/06/2016 19:01

they mentioned Callum was not a match! - so he must have been tested in the good old USA Smile
but surely the hospital will not take bone marrow from little Nell without parental consent!

Asheth · 24/06/2016 19:19

I wish they weren't going down the kidnap route. It would have been far more interesting to have had a proper story on bone marrow donation. Either through Sonya doing it and perhaps exploring the psychological consequences of it not working or to have looked more into the ethical decision of the parents to use Nell. I suspect in the end Zoe will do the noble thing and refuse to allow it, saying she'd rather die.

Clawdy · 24/06/2016 22:34

As if he could just turn up at the hospital with a child in tow, ready to donate! That's silly even for Neighbours!

prettybird · 25/06/2016 18:31

I'm not an expert but I thought if Sonya weren't a match, then the odds of Nell being a match would be no more than the "Bone Marrow Bank" - in fact, probably less as Sonya has already been identified as not being a match Confused

But don't let a little thing like genetics get in the way of a dramatic story line Grin

JessTitchener · 25/06/2016 18:50

I was tested to see if would be a bone marrow donor match for my nephew as we share a relatively rare blood type.
I wasn't a match but thankfully a donor was found through the Anthony Nolan service.

At no point did anyone, medical or otherwise, suggest testing my children and when it comes to the actual donation there is no way my Dsis and BIL could have just rocked up to the hospital with a random child and request a bone marrow harvest!

It's a shame they've gone down this route as it would have been a great opportunity to show the realities of bone marrow donation.

I'm still registered as a donor although due to my rare blood it's unlikely that I'll ever be called upon.

I'm getting a bit over invested here aren't I? Repeat after me, it's not real, it's not real....

Clawdy · 25/06/2016 19:11

No, it's not real, but for such an important issue, they should try to stick to some semblance of reality.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 25/06/2016 19:19

Neighbours don't do medical realism. Toadie shouldn't be able to walk, Kyle was blinded but recovered within a week, and let's not forget Daphne giving birth wearing tights.

OP posts:
MagpieCursedTea · 25/06/2016 19:43

And the suspiciously high levels of amnesia that are cured at dramatically appropriate times!

MiddleClassProblem · 27/06/2016 09:47

It's neighbours! You expect research on British soaps not Aussie ones. They are more for entertainment than relatability.

Rrross1ges · 27/06/2016 11:22

Paul changing the newspaper article and getting 50k was classic neighbours.

HairsprayQueen · 27/06/2016 19:27

How convenient, a medical mix up, Who'd have thought that could happen!

ASpiderInThebath · 27/06/2016 19:58

Dies anyone on this thread watch home and away? I was catching up on old episodes today and the one where Irene is kidnapped, I'm sure the actor has been in neighbours? Was he Todd?

ASpiderInThebath · 27/06/2016 20:01

I just googled and it is him! That was a blast from the past!

Clawdy · 27/06/2016 22:23

Had to miss today's, what was the medical mix-up??

Lovewineandchocs · 27/06/2016 22:36

The doctors in the U.S. had told Callum he wasn't a match to donate to Zoe, but Sonya got a text from him later to say there had been a mix-up and he was, in fact, a match. Cue heartwarming hugs all round and Walter and Zoe's emotional farewell. Toadie now has major cat's bum face Smile though because Sonya hadn't told him that she'd got Nell secretly tested and she was a match. There may be trouble ahead...

Asheth · 27/06/2016 22:37

Callum is a match for Zoe after all, so Nell doesn't need to donate, the little matter of Walter kidnapping Nell is forgotten and Zoe will probably have a miracle recovery time.

Woodhill · 27/06/2016 22:41

Sonya is so self righteous though I want to slap her and Zoe's voice was so nasal.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/06/2016 22:50

Oh and don't forget Callum's offer to take them out for a sketch show and improv night after the transplant in USA

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/06/2016 23:02

Callum being a match is ridiculous.

And the Supergirls song? As if.
