Surely not much longer to wait now until the new producer starts? Things must improve, mustn't they?

Hanging on by my fingernails at the minute.

Just caught up in last night. So unbelievable with Anna and Eileen.

TheJunctionBaby · 16/03/2016 04:40

urrrgh Phelan makes my skin crawl. The twist of his mouth and his big stubbly head....

AnguaResurgam · 16/03/2016 07:52

Even though I post quite firmly about that I'd want to see (and just not want at all) in the next phase of Corrie, I know ai'm not necessarily representative.

There will be Corrie fans who want to see the sort of storylines I hate. And if audience figures are growing when they show more and more of the quick-fire, done-and-forgotten, scenarios which are no longer rooted in long term characterisation then of course that'll be the future direction of the show.

SymphonyofShadows · 16/03/2016 09:22

Phelan lost everything in his divorce didn't he? I reckon he's after Jason's business and Eileen's house. Should be easy, after all it wasn't like Owen had any paperwork to show the investment on the development was his had he gone to the police. Oh wait..

I can't believe that Brooke Vincent is going to try to crack the US. There must be thousands of mumbling young actresses with zero screen presence there already.

Rachel0Greep · 16/03/2016 09:50

She has a clipboard though... Wink

MissBattleaxe · 16/03/2016 10:23

Owen couldn't got to the police because Phelan was blackmailing him with footage of Gary assaulting him.

I'm disgusted that both Eileen and Kevin immediately believed everything Phelan said to them despite having known Anna much better and longer than him. At least Kevin saw his true colours in the end.

I can't wait for my fantasy pitchfork scene when Phelan is driven out of town.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/03/2016 11:31

When Anna and her family first arrived on screen they were singlehandly fixed on ruining Joe (Gails DH and Tinas Dad)
They ordered and allowed him to fit a kitchen that they had no intention of paying for (Joe was a self employed kitchen fitter so took a huge financial loss) then wrecked it so he couldn't even salvage any.

Arr Garee was a right little scrote and Eddie (her DH) was a Shameless stylee layabout.
Then............................they move into The Street and the bullying continues (and we all know what happened to Joe)

And now, Anna is Mrs Nicey Hmm

The Phelan/Anna scene? He did co-erce her of course.
But if she went to court and was asked "Did you deliberately go to the hotel? Did you go to the room? Of your own accord? "

Yes. She did. You could argue she was prostituting - sex for favours , not ££ in this case but her advantage. She wanted to get the CD
She wasn't drunk.
She sat on the side of the bed (he was on the bed) and agreed.

So rape? No.

TotalConfucius · 16/03/2016 11:45

Every time Derek Griffiths pops up on screen DH and I burst into the Playaway theme.
Just checked and he was in it in 1971 - that makes me and DH...slightly past middle aged.

southeastdweller · 16/03/2016 12:17

Of course Phelan didn't rape Anna. I doubt a similar case in RL would ever get to court.

VikingVolva · 16/03/2016 12:34

'Consent' obtained only under duress is not valid, so yes under English law it is rape.

This is a matter of the law, not opinion.

And there is no way that Anna would not have consented without the threats/blackmail.

Corrie might choose not to take the storyline in the direction of a prosecution, but they showed the actual offence so there really is no doubt or grey area.

MissBattleaxe · 16/03/2016 15:03

Agree with Viking. Anna did not want to. hated it. felt violated, and wished it had never happened. He forced her, not physically, but he still forced her.

SymphonyofShadows · 16/03/2016 15:13

I don't know why Owen didn't go to the police though. By the time all the Anna stuff happened Phelan wasn't showing any signs of injuries. I know he had the video but they could have recorded him threatening to use it. Gary might have got a lighter sentence. I hated that while storyline and this one.

southeastdweller · 16/03/2016 15:22

No, he didn't force her. He said if she slept with him then he'd let Gary and Owen go from working for him for minimum wage.

MissBattleaxe · 16/03/2016 15:46

He also had the tape that could have landed Gary in prison. He also conned them out of 80k. He said he would only leave them alone if she slept with him. Her family was being destroyed by him. It wasn't just about a minimum wage job.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 16/03/2016 17:17

They were working for him for free weren't they? Not minimum wage. So couldn't earn any other money.

desperatehousewife21 · 16/03/2016 18:47

I find it hard to feel sorry for Anna though Blush

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 16/03/2016 19:37

Agree with pp. It was rape. She did not consent willingly. He knew she did not consent willingly.

If e.g. he was doing the same but demanding money most people would clearly see that was illegal - extortion and blackmail.

Sexual coercion is an offense. And even it were not it is utterly abhorent and disgusting and Eileen should know better, having more than enough bad experiences to know that amongst the men out there there are quite a few bad ones and she has never had a bloke that didn't lie his head off.

RudeElf · 16/03/2016 19:40

So is Izzy all better now? Confused

2 weeks ago she was barely mobile in agony and scoring weed from dodgy dealers in dirty pubs. Then gary found out and said he would help and now she's bright and breezy as she performs the worst acting ever. Is she better now? Confused

RudeElf · 16/03/2016 19:44

even she's confused about whether he raped or not

Many rape victims are. Some dont realise they have been raped until many years later. Because people fall over themselves to explain why it wasnt rape so victims doubt themselves.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/03/2016 19:53

Wee lips Phelan.

JustDanceAddict · 16/03/2016 20:01

Phelan & Eileen Kissing - please no!

southeastdweller · 16/03/2016 20:09

The Phelan story in 2014 was bizarre - first of all, Owen and Gary decide to go into business with someone they knew to be dodgy and give him £80K towards their first project. Phelan makes a pass at Anna and Gary assaults him. Phelan blackmails Owen and Gary to work for minimum wage and for Phelan to keep the 80K otherwise he'll go to the police with CCTV footage. Gary and Owen don't go to the police as they think better to humiliate themselves with this loose cannon and put themselves in debt rather than Gary risk a possible jail sentence. As you do.

Phelan proposes that Anna sleeps with him and he'll give Gary and Owen their freedom if she does. She doesn't talk it through with Owen and agrees. Phelan let's them go from their contracts but keeps the 80K and still nobody goes to the police Hmm. Owen consequently loses his home, pride, business and Anna.

All completely ludicrous.

BoGrainger · 16/03/2016 20:15

I completely agree with 'Eileen is dead to me now'. That kiss was revolting. I've always liked her and now I prefer Anna! (Can't believe I'm saying that) Jason will suss Phelan out but Eileen won't believe him and it will drag on for months with new casualties every week until he is finally found out and hopefully never reappears again.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 16/03/2016 21:36

Even Phelan knows it was rape. He said as much.

theliverpoolone · 16/03/2016 22:57

Todd seems to have the measure of Phelan - he needs to go back to being 'evil Todd' and start trying to catch him out. The truth about Anna isn't ever going to be provable to Eileen - so all they can do is have him doing something else awful, to prove how bad he really is. Wish they'd get on with it.
