beowolf? is it just a copy of GOT

The opening bit of the hands shaking and things turning just felt like they were copying GOT and beowolf looks surprisingly like snow (but not as nice).

Anyone else watching?

Quite blatantly a rip off of GOT. Except of course you'd never be able to show GOT at 7pm, so this is like a poor watered down version.

RustyBear · 03/01/2016 19:17

Difficult to see Beowulf as a copy of GOT, seeing that it was written approximately 1,000 years earlier...

confusedandemployed · 03/01/2016 19:18

RustyBear beat me to it...

Owllady · 03/01/2016 19:18

It's a really old poem? Confused

TrinityForce · 03/01/2016 19:18
Grin

That rip off, Beowulf. Disgraceful.

OriginalSinner · 03/01/2016 19:18

The lead is a copy of Sean Bean!

PuppyMonkey · 03/01/2016 19:19

Well the opening titles of this brand new TV version definitely weren't done 1000 years ago - direct rip off of GoT. Grin

TrinityForce · 03/01/2016 19:19

They probably took the visuals from GOT.

Greydog · 03/01/2016 19:20

yes - www.bl.uk/collection-items/beowulf

Owllady · 03/01/2016 19:20

Lol and me!
I feel like I'm turning into my mother. My first thought was, the youth of today think they invented everything
No offence brandnew :o it's me, I feel old. I never knew I'd be one of those people who knew stuff Shock

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/01/2016 19:21

I'm assuming you mean the filming style is a rip of rather than anything else.

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 03/01/2016 19:21

We are giving it a go. Lots of ye olde medieval hair gel on those soldiers in red

OriginalSinner · 03/01/2016 19:22

The smith was not authentic to the text!

Owllady · 03/01/2016 19:23

There are earlier fillings of Beowulf though that ore exist game of thrones!

Owllady · 03/01/2016 19:23

Pre not ore

CrazyMermaidHair · 03/01/2016 19:25

Anyone who doesn't think those opening titles were directly lifted from GOT has obviously never watched GOT.

ITV would never have commissioned something like this were it not for the success of Game of Thrones. It's not very original.

BrandNewAndImproved · 03/01/2016 19:25

I knew it was a poem, however this is a brand new tv series so say based on this poem and it's so like GOT.

This isn't AIBU or literacy its TV addicts. Not sure why me saying the tv series is a copy has been taken so personally and haha it's a poem brand aren't you stupid for not knowing that...

tribpot · 03/01/2016 19:25

The Wars of the Roses were a bit of a rip-off of Game of Thrones as well, weren't they? Bloody Plantagenets.

Owllady · 03/01/2016 19:29

:o at bloody plantagenets. That's tickled me Blush

CrazyMermaidHair · 03/01/2016 19:35

Because it makes them feel superior to try look more intelligent than other posters, BrandNew

Don't take it personally, they probably have shit self esteem or something Grin

CrazyMermaidHair · 03/01/2016 19:39

Aside from the GOT inspired opening credits, this is really is a steaming pile of horsehit. Poor acting, crap special effects, non existent story. I really wanted to like it a well.

PuppyMonkey · 03/01/2016 19:44

What happens in the poem, then, all you massive experts?

(I'm bailing on it - bit boring).

BrandNewAndImproved · 03/01/2016 19:44

I'm just going to ignore any smart remarks that make out I'm stupid crazy Moving on it's nowhere near as good as GOT but it's ok for sunday night telly and I hope it gets better as it goes on. I've noticed the evil queen theme and monsters that might as well be white walkers.
