Would anyone like to talk The Sopranos with me?

I avoided it for years and am now half way through series 3 and LOVE it! Such depth to the characters.

I guess I'm after anyone who is like me watching for the first time, or anyone who can talk about its greatness but avoid too many (any?!) spoilers...

Oooh sorry: watched the whole thing several years ago, catching up just in time to follow the final series on tv. Lucky lucky you to be enjoying it now though Envy

PseudoBadger · 11/12/2015 23:21

I anticipate the thread going nowhere as most people will have seen it and won't be able to say anything!

I'm starting it tomorrow, so excited!! I've wanted to see it for years and have just found it on sky boxsets.

ExBallerina · 11/12/2015 23:23

It's one of my favourite shows ever.

What's happening for you so far?

PseudoBadger · 11/12/2015 23:31

Oh no I don't want to spoil anything for Berrrry! It's so good, so funny in lots of little ways. Multi, multi layered characters, dramatic techniques all over it. I even love the Bada Bing sign, just perfect.

Tony is a wonderful character.

Hmmm how to be cryptic about what's going on.... A daughter and a family friend are forging a new relationship. The boss likes Mercedes. A new music venue has opened.

ExBallerina · 11/12/2015 23:42

Oooh that part's good!

My favourite secondary character was Christopher. I so would.

Tony is evergreen to me and he'll be immortal in my mind (RIP James Gandalfini)

BringMeTea · 12/12/2015 01:37

I envy you OP! What a brilliant series. You are at a particularly interesting bit with Tony's bits n bobs. The zoo. I always totally fancied Tony. RIP James Gandalifini.

ExBallerina · 12/12/2015 02:40

I loved Tony. This is making me watch clips of my favourite episodes now.

How awesome is Carmela, PS?

MistressMerryWeather · 12/12/2015 02:47

I will have to re-watch now.

I miss Furio.

PseudoBadger · 12/12/2015 06:37

Oh it's great to see the love! Yes the zoo! Dirty gorillas Wink

See I alternate between affection and loathing for Christopher. In fact for all of them. That is the point isn't it, how they are so well written. Mind you Furio is just awesome. Grin

Dr Melfi reflects our view of Tony, liking him, very attracted to him when we shouldn't be, charmed by a mobster.

I like the children more this season, as they are giving them more depth. And Carmela, she's just had an interesting chat with a colleague of Dr M. I like her more now, not so much with the priest thing.

Bump for any more Sopranos fans...

PMSL at the singing fish following poor Tony around. I remember those bloody things.

Oh I so envy you. I watched it for the first time four years ago. I can't face watching anything with him in it since he died. Such a great actor. I would love to watch The Sopranos again but I'd love to share it and none of my friends are interested. I suppose it's not light viewing. I've started Nurse Jackie from the beginning as Edie is fantastic.

He gave a brilliant interview where he said he loved her more than his actual wife, they were that close. I enjoyed watching the children grow up before our very eyes as well.

Thisismyfirsttime · 12/12/2015 21:52

I love it. DH watched it first and I picked up little bits and dipped in and out (as with all box sets, he's far more dedicated than me). Then I watched it and I loved it until series 4 or so, I think there are 6? And I completely lost track of who was who and who was where, it happens to me with a lot of shows though. GoT, Breaking Bad, SoA, I am terrible at it. We're watching it again now though, I'm enjoying it on s2!

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/12/2015 22:43

It is fantastic series just comes a very very close second to the The Wire for best series ever. It has horrified me the violence, cry because it is so touching at times and cry with laughter

I love and often loathe the characters I love the relationships especially Tony and Dr Melfi and love Adriana all the characters are and relationships are complex and that is explored.

The trip to the zoo that gosh the was hot Tony was so alpha male very sexy

James Gandolfini was a great actor sadly missed

I could happily chat about The Sopranos for hours Blush have watched the series twice may watch it again

PseudoBadger · 13/12/2015 09:29

I think I actually already prefer it to The Wire...

Berrrrynaughtyboy · 13/12/2015 12:11

I watched the first episode last night, I think I'm hooked already.

freespiritsbadattitude · 13/12/2015 12:19

Amazing amazing show! Sometimes uproariously funny (like the Christopher intervention scene) and often tragic.

Some fantastic, strong characters. I love Adriana and Carmela.

3point14159265359 · 13/12/2015 12:23

I just started watching on Boxsets too. Only 6 or so episodes in though. I'm going to stick with it, because it's been so highly acclaimed but tbh I'm not feeling it yet.

I'm struggling to get past Melfi being Rizzoli's mum Grin

PseudoBadger · 13/12/2015 12:30

What do you like about it 3point? Focus on those, it's worth it!

Littlemissjt · 13/12/2015 12:47

I watched the whole box set for the first time about 18 months ago and LOVED it!! I couldn't believe I'd never been told what happened in it and was so glad. I got the point I'd love coming in from work or staying in on a Saturday night just to watch an episode! Or even better when you plan to watch an episode and end up watching three as its at such a good part!
I think it's great the way you can love but hate tony at the same time! I just need to see season 5 of game of thrones and then I might start the sopranos again!

Cocolepew · 13/12/2015 12:51

I loved it. Its joint first with ER as my all time favourite show.
Theres an episode with Tony and Carmela in the pool and its the sexiest thing ever on TV.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 13/12/2015 12:56

Carmela is brilliant but I find her a very dislikable character

Christopher's intervention is brilliant (I posted it on another thread)

SoleBizzzz · 13/12/2015 13:08

I watched The Sopranos from episode one to the final episode last year. Utterly brilliant and just gets better with each series. Someone I know says this programme is almost exactly how the real Mafia are.

3point14159265359 · 13/12/2015 13:29

So far, not liking any of it. Obviously JG is an amazing actor but I don't like Tony. A lot of it just repels me tbh, from the violence right down to the scrunchies!

I will stick with it, because it should be right up my street, but not feeling it yet.
