Would anyone like to talk The Sopranos with me?

I avoided it for years and am now half way through series 3 and LOVE it! Such depth to the characters.

I guess I'm after anyone who is like me watching for the first time, or anyone who can talk about its greatness but avoid too many (any?!) spoilers...

I feel like I'm letting the thread down. Sorry. Wink

I watch Mob Wives too Grin

EachandEveryone · 13/12/2015 15:34

I wouldn't say Tony and Carmela together are sexy. No way. Tony and the car salesperson? Yes totally. I loved that season was it three?

It's very difficult to talk about it isn't it? How are we going to do this?

PseudoBadger · 13/12/2015 15:38

That's where I am now Each

I'm so jealous! There was something really attractive about him.

PseudoBadger · 13/12/2015 15:46

He's just had an appointment with Dr M and she's asked him why he thinks he is attracted to highly strung, depressive, impossible to please women Grin

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 13/12/2015 16:05

and Italian looking woman .....

love the Freudian theories played out with his therapist

I didn't find Tony and Carmela sexy at all but Tony and Gloria oh my

SoleBizzzz · 13/12/2015 16:27

Tony and the car sales Woman was my favourite part.

EachandEveryone · 13/12/2015 17:55

That's it Gloria I didn't want to google wanted to remember myself. I think it's natural that an Italian Mafia man would go for an Italian woman especially in that part of New Jersey they hang out in. Even Dr Melfi was Italian although she didn't look it. If that's a thing. I think you would be hard pushed to find an actor in The Sopranos that wasn't Italian American.

Although we all know he didn't always stick to his fellow country women. oh god, how hard is this?

EachandEveryone · 13/12/2015 17:57

Gloria reminded me of the woman Don Draper fell for.

PseudoBadger · 13/12/2015 18:03

Yes definitely agree with that Each, but Don's was more.... even tempered

This thread is funny. All the people who have seen it all trying to discuss its utter brilliance without actually including any spoilers. I never saw Carmela and Tony as passionate. But we never got to see them together in their 20s and I guess we have to believe it was all there then.

Part of its triumph is having you love Tony despite the thuggery and violence and brutality.

Livia. Discuss.

Tigresswoods · 14/12/2015 06:40

Err, why have we not mentioned Paulie yet?

The episode where he & Christopher are in the snowy woods is brilliant.

BringMeTea · 14/12/2015 06:46

Agreed Tigress. The Russians episode really stayed with me. So hard to discuss without spoilers though!

EachandEveryone · 14/12/2015 07:33

Exactly so we can't really I would hate to spoil any of it. College was my favourite one and I think that was the first season do I feel that should be ok.

PseudoBadger · 14/12/2015 09:40

Tigress I watched that 2 nights ago - loved it! I've liked Paulie from the start though

And this bloody series - people you should hate, you learn more about them and feel empathy. Last night I even felt bad for Ralphy. RALPHY! Last night's episode was the penultimate in s3 where it went tits up for Jackie Jnr

The Sopranos like The Wire shows the complexities of people and their relationships, family dynamics how we are conditioned

Also showing Tony's relationship with his therapist we see a vulnerable side to him

I guess it's showing that bad people are not all bad people are complex it's so well done. I too felt sorry for Ralphie other times he is the most vile nasty character in the series brilliant actor

EachandEveryone · 14/12/2015 14:57

A few years ago I found this issue of Vanity Fair in a coffee shop in Budapest. Fantastic interviews with all of them, the first time they'd spoke about it. Obviously do not click if you have not watched the show yet, there's plenty of spoilers www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2012/04/sopranos-oral-history don't click if you haven't got time to read it either as it's pretty in depth.

GoofyIsACow · 14/12/2015 15:06

Our favourite tv show of all time, i have lost count of the times we have seen the entire show from start to finish!

DH and I often talk to each other exclusively in Sopranos quotes Blush

Livia is a fantastic character, Paulie I love! The Pine Barrens episode is hysterical!

Ralphy I absolutely hate, almost every character I swing from liking and disliking but Ralphy is just awful.

We must be due to start again, it's usually around this time of year we start again!

freespiritsbadattitude · 14/12/2015 16:19

"The episode where he & Christopher are in the snowy woods is brilliant."

YES. So good. I loved just about any scene with Christopher in it though, he was so watchable, and the way he developed through the series was so compelling.

I'm dying to discuss the final scene - you know, THE final scene. I think the director let slip a little bit what it was about this year? I think? But anyway, can't discuss it till everyone on this thread has finished watching!

BringMeTea · 15/12/2015 08:35

Yes, freespirited that would be good as I was discombobulated by it. Might be a while though... Grin
