U.K. Scandal has just began and I can't wait for my catch up.

Not looking forward to the president and Olivia's relationship.

I have watched the first episode. I don't want to spoil it though. All I want to ask is Caledonia thing meant to mean Scotland and princes Diana? Too many connections.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. Even the nice guys turn into complete arses when they get involved with a woman. I'm rewatching Grey's Anatomy at the moment and George O'Malley treated Callie really badly. Dr Webber is normally a nice, fatherly figure but he treated Adele, Ellis and Catherine terribly. I find it really strange because her shows have a massive feminist undercurrent - I'm sure more than half the doctors at Grey-Sloan Memorial are women, including several female chiefs of department. Abbie and Olivia are always going off on feminist rants on Scandal. She writes all of these strong, capable, intelligent women and then has them put up with all manner of crap from men who don't deserve them.

Olivia and Fitz (or Meredith and Derek ) are supposed to be a great romance, like a modern day Romeo and Juliet but they've got the most dysfunctional relationship ever. Girls grow up watching this sort of thing on TV and think it's normal, especially if they've never seen a healthy relationship at home. You'd think that someone who is ostentatiously feminist would want to show healthy relationships or at least make more effort to point out that what she is showing is abuse rather than romance.

Caledonia is definitely the UK. They change a lot of the names of countries for some reason - there's an episode later in the series where they are obviously depicting Iran but they've called it something else.

Smellyoulateralligater · 11/12/2015 16:34

I've just watched episode 3 on sky catch up. I love Scandal and those wtf moments at the end of a good episode.

MrsJayy · 11/12/2015 18:09

Episode 1 was soo near the knuckle me and dh took an intake of breath at the tunnel and oohed at it being queenie

Debbriana1 · 11/12/2015 19:00

Queen

Yes to Olivia and Meredith. When I watched scandals for the first time that was what came to mind. The similarity in behaviour. Disappointing in terms of scandal knowing that it's loosely based on a real person and it's meant to be an example for black women out there, I don't think that was wise.

Shonda, needs know that a lot of black young women out there love scandal and if the media is being told change the way it portrays black women in movies and tv, then you have a black written come up with something like this. It's priceless.

It's like she didn't think it through.

With grey anatomy I stopped with series three and the others dipped in and out.

Still love it! I really love
Jake Grin

Debbriana1 · 12/12/2015 00:38

I forgot how the affairs is a running them how to get away with murder.

I wonder who changed her mind bout Olivia popes character from the presidents daughter to mistress?

I could write a whole thesis on "how to get away with murder". Wrong thread I know.

I don't follow Deb - what was the original Scandal plot?

ZenNudist · 13/12/2015 02:23

Just got to the end if season 4, ugh Folivia back together. Boo.

In my head Jake is like Aiden from 'sex and the city' : the good looking nice guy the heroine should have chosen instead of the narcissistic loser she actually went for except he's a cold blooded killer

oneowlgirl · 13/12/2015 08:45

Very true Zen Grin

Debbriana1 · 13/12/2015 11:01

I think the original plot would have been Olivia as the presidents daughter leaving at the White House while fixing. I actually think this would have been better because it would have give it room to grow.

I can't think of any normal person in scandal. What I mean by normal is the everyday person who is not a murderer or contract killer or playing dirty games for their own gains.

Olivia say she wears the white hat and yet on the hand sleep knowingly with someone else's husband.

They all seem very utilitarian. The end justifies the means. It doesn't matter what it takes to get there as long as they do.

That's politics though & whilst I imagine that most politicians aren't killers (hopefully!!) it will be a very cut throat dog-eat-dog world with everyone out for their own ends. [Senior mgt where I work is so political with not so much at stake as actual politics so I do imagine it's a horrible world to move in!!]

oneowlgirl · 13/12/2015 12:07

David - his white hat is a great big one Grin although I think he realises how futile that is sometimes!!

[I do realise I take this too seriously!!]

oneowlgirl · 13/12/2015 12:08

Also the Vice President has a conscience & thought what she said to Fitz was very good at reminding him he's meant to have higher standards.

Debbriana1 · 13/12/2015 12:22

Do mean madam Vice President? They changed them a bit. She makes me laugh. The funny one of the lot.

OP posts:
QueenStromba · 13/12/2015 12:24

I agree about the VP - she seems like a very genuine woman. David Rosen used the B613 files to become attorney general though so he's dirty as fuck.

Debbriana1 · 13/12/2015 12:29

Yes he has absolutely changed. Still waving the white hat flag though.

OP posts:
oneowlgirl · 13/12/2015 12:52

That's harsh QueenGrin

Yes, I mean the current VP rather than the husband murdering right wing conservative TV pundit!!

Debbriana1 · 13/12/2015 13:24

Wasn't it self defence?

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 13/12/2015 13:31

I think sally is hilarious in a twisted bitter kind of way she killed her husband but sits on her high horse she is briliant. Oh and Olivia shouldbe with Jake meh themurder is just his job Grin I like susan the new vp she is the tut tutter in the white house i wtched ep 2 the other night it was a bit dull

oneowlgirl · 13/12/2015 16:40

Totally agree Mrsjayy!

Duckdeamon · 13/12/2015 16:48

So the heroine has to choose between a self righteous adulterer or a murderer? Hmm

Really didn't like the Diana episode: pricess pregnant by OM bumped off in a tunnel by order of the Queen, all wrapped up in one episode. Not Shonda's finest hour.

MrsJayy · 13/12/2015 16:56

Yip thats her choices but have you seen jake in a tight teeshirt
