DS will be studying this book this year (I've read it myself years ago) so I'm sure he'll be delighted to watch this on BBC.

Hopefully it follows the book and doesn't wander on track too much.

Oh fantastic, DS1 has this for his book as well. Is it wise to watch it before you read the actual play or would it be better to record and save for later?

I did it for my GCSEs 8 million years ago and barely remember anything about it

I'm so excited about this!

I studied it for GCSE, I can't actually remember the plot particularly (I just realised, it was half my life ago ) but I remember really enjoying it. So much in fact that my parents took me to see it at the theatre as my birthday present that year.

And I looooove David Thewlis too. :o

Themes-class, change of in early 20th century. Change in roles of women, snapshot of pre ww1 society. (Glad our school isn't doing it this year-thoroughly sick of it)
Hopefully they don't leave huge chunks out like Lady C.

Dd says year 10 & 11 (& also year 9 have been recommended) have been told to watch it at school.

Ds2 played small boy in the Stephen Daldry production/national theatre tour (er the only version that has the 3 kids) - I'll tell him. He was 9 at the time so most of it went over his head.

My son was told not to watch the film/play until they'd finished all their coursework based on TIC as if not followed to the letter can obviously be interpreted very differently.

I saw Tom Baker in it when j was at school. Amazing inspector. Still have chills remembering him being all stern.

Although I don't like this reenactment stuff because then we will be spoon fed whether it's the same girl or not.

DS is year 10 and they've just started on it apparently (it's like getting blood out of a sodding stone at times - on Friday he 'couldn't remember' what they were doing!). He said he's going to watch it on the iplayer - maybe he should hold off until they've finished the text?

Nooooo! Nobody can like it because they shouldn't show the flashbacks. It ruins the whole point.

They are a nasty bunch though. The flashbacks are annoying and superfluous.

It's supposed to be really claustrophobic if I remember rightly.
