DS will be studying this book this year (I've read it myself years ago) so I'm sure he'll be delighted to watch this on BBC.

Hopefully it follows the book and doesn't wander on track too much.

Love David Thewlis (ever since Prime Suspect 3 where he played the creepy leather clad pimp in leather )

I found the inspector irritatingly sanctimonious. Is he supposed to be god or something, he certainly thought he was better than everyone else, no "let he who is without sin throw the first stone" with him, he'd have happily stoned them all and smiled smugly doing so.
Haven't read the book but think they should have ended the film with them all wondering if it was the same girl or not and never shown the girl or the photo.

He is supposed to have an "otherworldly" impression as time goes on. J.B Priestly intended that and write fairly detailed staging directions.

By the end it's supposed to leave you wondering who he was and if it was the same girl. Then they get that phone call at the end.
I enjoyed it personally but I love the play. I thought David Thewlis was great. Really well cast all in all. Also thought the actress playing Sheila was outstanding. It's a difficult part to play as she goes from being very pleased with life to the awful realisation of how her actions have affected someone else.

I thought that this version implied that the Inspector is actually Death (came for Eva)

sadly spolit for me by my adoration of the Alistair Sim film version - but well done anyway of itself

I loved An Inspector Calls as a GCSE child and enjoyed this adaptation as I have to be honest I couldn't remember much about other than I liked it iykwim?

The Go-Between on the other hand I hated. I wanted to tell the main character to get a fucking grip. Big style. So I think I'll avoid that one.

Yeah I'm not a massive fan of the Go-Between either. Have seen the Julie Christie film a couple of times, what a downer!

They should have picked a couple of more jolly Edwardian books to adapt, like.......ummmmm.......

Watched it again last night and loved it.

Predictably the Torygraph hated it....not the production but the play. They deserved it as "outdated". Arses!

Looking forward to seeing Cider With Rosie too, another favourite. Got the audiobook being read by Laurie Lee. Fabulous.
