Is anyone watching? Couldn't see a thread but please link for me if there's already one!

Oh yes!

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/09/2015 21:29

Still seeing him as Robb Stark.

CoffeeAndOranges · 06/09/2015 21:31

Yup I'm watching! Robb Stark looking good so far, very moody and gruff (and muscly but not totally gym-buffed as he obviously wouldn't have been at 1919). And Lady C is the perfect English Rose - beautiful.

Obviously I am watching it for the portrayal of life in early 20th century England, and not for the nookie Wink

TillyButton · 06/09/2015 21:31

Hi Asheth I am but doubt it will be as sexy good as the Sean Bean version Smile

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/09/2015 21:35

Are there any dramatisations that don't feature members of the Stark family? Grin

IndomitabIe · 06/09/2015 21:35

Robb Stark channeling the gardener from the Fast Show. But smouldery.

Very interesting

TheSecondOfHerName · 06/09/2015 21:36

Yes, it is a bit "drainage in the lower field"

SilverMachine · 06/09/2015 21:37

Yes me! I am hoping that it stays true to D H Lawrence's original text in a believable historical setting.

totally watching for the nookieWink

Asheth · 06/09/2015 21:43

I have read the book, but it was years ago so I probably won't know if it is true to the book.

The medical scenes were brutal. Did they really do that in the 1920s to men wanting children?

Loving this so far! And of course we're all here for the appreciation of with century literature and not for nookie at all! Grin

By eck he lit that fire quick! With a single match an all...

BoffinMum · 06/09/2015 21:44

AIBU to ask DH to dress up as Mellors? Grin
He thinks so.

BoffinMum · 06/09/2015 21:46

I am watching it a bit behind you lot having recorded it. Wet shirt time!

RomComPhooey · 06/09/2015 21:49

They didn't hang around with the silly shirt off scene and the nookie on this one. Not like Poldark, where they kept us hanging around for ages.

I don't think Lady Constance is a particularly good actress. DH says she's channelling Miranda Richardson doing a posh accent. Not sure we'll tune in next week.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 06/09/2015 21:51

I think it's a 90 minute one off isn't it?

Asheth · 06/09/2015 21:51

This is the same period as Downton, only if it was Downton Mellors would probably be welcomed into the family and Sir Clifford would get a tingle and not need to be tortured!

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 06/09/2015 21:52

Poor Sir Clifford and his knackers. Sad

LaContessaDiPlump · 06/09/2015 21:54

It's all such a very justifiable affair, isn't it. The OM is a sweetie who's been heartbroken, the adulterous woman is sexually and emotionally frustrated despite her most reasonable efforts, the poor husband has been somewhat selfish in ignoring his wife's clearly expressed needs.

I read the book aged 22 and thought it all terribly romantic and rude, but now I'm a bit more Hmm about it all.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 06/09/2015 21:55

Connie is irritating the bejaysus. Soooo agree re:Miranda Richardson. Keep expecting her to shriek for Nursey.

BoffinMum · 06/09/2015 21:55

Oo, they are going in the cottage!

PermetsTu · 06/09/2015 22:15

The dramatisations do rather avoid some things which would cast Connie in a different life. Mellors isn't her first affair is he? The film and tv versions could show that she is a strong, sexual woman who has to have that need satisfied but they shy away from it and try and romanticise it. It ends up being neither one thing nor another. I don't think it ever quite works. Clifford they are getting wrong too. He's not infantile enough. He becomes very dependent, obsessive and childlike.

PermetsTu · 06/09/2015 22:16

different light rather

RomComPhooey · 06/09/2015 22:18

Wondering how they are going to wrap this up in 10 minutes.

Ivy Bolton needs a good kick up the arse, that's for sure.

RomComPhooey · 06/09/2015 22:19

Hmm. These "knowing" servants have put paid to the fantasy of everything appearing in front of you - dinner, bathed and bed-ready children etc. It must be a pain in the arse trying to have any kind of private life in that kind of household.

PermetsTu · 06/09/2015 22:19

They are running out of time aren't they?

SPOILER ALERT...

Are they just going to miss out Mellors' wife and that whole bit?

CoffeeAndOranges · 06/09/2015 22:20

Oh no now I can only think of Miranda Richardson shouting 'nursey!!'
