Is anyone watching? Couldn't see a thread but please link for me if there's already one!

Am I the only person pissed off that they didn't bother with the cunt speech?

I adored the book and all the contrasting parts, 90 mins just wasn't enough. It was badly cast IMO, they had no chemistry at all.

BoffinMum · 08/09/2015 09:10

They didn't use the phrase 'her crisis' once.

AnneEtAramis · 08/09/2015 09:27

So much of the key material was left out and the sex scenes weren't even that great to make up for it.

emotionsecho · 08/09/2015 11:38

Another vote here for the dark blue embroidered outfit, wish I knew a good tailor who could copy it!

NoahVale · 08/09/2015 11:44

Yes I remarked on that, although I did think it didnt meet in the middle and might not be practical

everythingsgoingsouth · 08/09/2015 13:56

So what's the Sean Bean version like?......

squoosh · 08/09/2015 14:01

Much.......earthier.

squoosh · 08/09/2015 14:03

Actually I've just realised that Sean Bean played new grumpy little Melloer's dad on Game of Thrones.

And now they're rutting gardeners in arms too.

everythingsgoingsouth · 08/09/2015 14:45

Much.......earthier.
Yes, that sounds more my cup of tea ;)

shutupanddance · 08/09/2015 16:10

Earthier; more sex?

PollysHoliday · 08/09/2015 21:57

I found Joely Richardson irritating and whiney in the Sean Bean version. But Sean Bean was awesome. I remember a lot of chemistry between the two characters and the story was developed over a number of episodes. I felt it probably captured the atmosphere of the book.

emotionsecho · 08/09/2015 23:07

Our Sean does do grumpy and earthy so wellGrin.

Tsk Noah who needs practicalSmile.

AnneEtAramis · 08/09/2015 23:32

I think earthier is the perfect description. it's on YouTube

fuzzpig · 08/09/2015 23:34

I think it's a 90 minute one off isn't it?

Gwenhwyfar · 09/09/2015 21:39

"things which would cast Connie in a different life. Mellors isn't her first affair is he?"

Eh? Is there a suggestion in the book that she'd had an extra-marital affair before? Duncan is an ex-boyfriend from before her marriage to Clifford.

AnneEtAramis · 09/09/2015 21:45

She has an affair with an artist iirc?! Michael? Or similar.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/09/2015 21:58

Thanks Anne.

fuzzpig · 12/09/2015 18:37

Oh damn. I was going to watch this but my parents just told me that LC herself is played by someone I used to sort-of know (my 'auntie' used to work in TV so we played together at an event when she was her chaperone) - I've enjoyed watching her in other things, it's great that her career is going so well but I'm not sure I could watch her in this kind of thing :o

Girlfriend36 · 13/09/2015 22:35

Realise i am a week late to the thread but I thought this was really disappointing! I felt sorry for Connies husband and thought Connies may well live to regret running off with the gardener when she realises what being completely potless means.

Plus I struggled to believe a man with a really bad chest like Mellors clearly had would be that good in bed Grin

regenerationfez · 13/09/2015 22:44

I'm a week late too, mainly because I've had to re- register my account, but I agree. Very disappointing. Especially as I made DH watch it and he was vindicated! I agree with Squoosh. The ending was ridiculously romanticised. The sequel, with them living in a hovel while he was unemployable and she was disgraced presumably won't be made. I'd also forgotten how cringingly embarrassing it is for a man to have given his penis both a first and a surname!

FishWithABicycle · 13/09/2015 23:05

I watched it yesterday - never read the book as I have previously found DHLawrence a bit too hard-going - left with the general impression that it could have been a dramatisation of a mills&boon story - I suspect the literary merit of the written work lies heavily in descriptions of feelings and thoughts which didn't make it into the film.

loved mellors/robb stark though (and his hair)
