Aaargh! Was watching Catherine Tate show and her new character (annoying person in office trying to squeeze sponsor money out of bloke) was wearing the same cardigan as I bought in Per Una this summer. I really liked it, too - looked great with my jeans, sniff! Now feel like a frump (DH would add, maybe there's a reason for that...)

Anyone else been put off an item of clothing by seeing someone on telly wearing it?

Me! I have got a suede coat which is really thin and styled like a shirt. I love it and wore it for years and years and had never seen another like it..... ujntil one day I was watching Neighbours and Joe Mangle made his comeback.. IN MY JACKET!!!!! Have never quite loved it in the same way!!

housemum · 21/11/2006 09:38

OK, while I'm in embarassing confessional mood, it's not as bad as the other "ruined" item of clothing. A few years ago I bought a matching crinkly material navy patterned sleeveless top and skirt - worn together, they made me look slim (!) and looked really good. Description doesn't quite make it sound good - imagine slimline, straight up-and-down, easy summer outfit.

Anyway, nearly spilt my cuppa down myself when I saw Coronation Street - AUDREY ROBERTS wearing my top!! She's at least twice my age!!!

Get me the Woman's Weekly and heated slippers, I feel one of my "turns" coming on...

Housemum lol! Is that the lovely stripy one with big buttons in different colours, because I did the same double take, and then cringed, as it's one of my favourites. I feel your pain.

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 09:49

housemum I will have a go at her for you next time I see her in the playground!

I love that cardi - my friend has one - CT shouldn't ahve been allowed to use it

my confession

many yrs ago I had a smart jacket for work - and I saw it in Eastenders - on the woman who played Peggy Mitchell before Barbara Windsor - and she was about twice my age - grim

foxtrot · 21/11/2006 10:02

Not clothes but Coronation Street - when i met my DH he had the same wallpaper as Rita Fairclough.

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 10:03

Billy from eastenders had a lampshade I had, I binned it!

CountessDracula · 21/11/2006 10:05

I also had the same cardi as Kurt Cobain which I was very pleased about (the one he was wearing during unplugged in NY)

foxinsocks · 21/11/2006 10:06

we have some foul wallpaper in this house (just haven't got round to renovating) and I spotted it on the Royle family (oh, the shame)

foxinsocks · 21/11/2006 10:07

but now we know your house is decorated like Billy's flat, you have lost all your style respect in our eyes

dara · 21/11/2006 10:10

This is an hilarious thread!

housemum · 21/11/2006 10:46

Ooh - now we've got onto interiors I've remembered another. We used to have the same Next stripy wallpaper in our hallway as in the Jackson's house in Eastenders (in the days when it was Carol, Robbie, Sonia, Billy - i haven't watched it for some time now). In my defence, it was there when we moved in, and we only lived with it for 3 years before changing it!!! Now oh-so-subtle cream and blue!

And I once had the same curtains as Pat Butcher - they went on a one-way trip to the charity shop!

Royle Family - oh, the shame...

In flat I lived in with ex bf we had same paper as Mcdonalds in Corrie and same bedding as Trisha in Emmerdale.

foxinsocks · 21/11/2006 10:57

but I have redeemed myself as on Lead Balloon (in their rather lovely stylish house), they had the same bedlinen as us

not sure I'd get over having the same curtains as Pat though

foxtrot · 21/11/2006 11:49

I had the same border that was in the kitchen on early episodes of 'My Family' and it tickled me that theirs was stuck upside down - or maybe mine was, we'll never know

Marilyn (was that her name - Ashley's wife/Josh's mum who got murdered) in Corrie wore a skirt I had once. I never wore it again after that.

MamaG · 21/11/2006 12:42

I had the same mirror as Pauline Fowler used to have in her kitchen.

I binned it

housemum · 21/11/2006 12:50

Poppies - wasn't that Tracey Shaw though in Corrie? Surely one that would get dh/dp drooling? Better than wearing the same as dreary Claire (or worse, Liz MacDonald!!)

Maxine, that's it! I've spent 10 mins trying to remember her flipping name!

you're all mad . Props have to be bought from somewhere - it is inevitable that sometimes you recognise things of your own - but if you liked it in the first place what difference does it make ?!

MamaG · 21/11/2006 12:58

Pauline. Fowler.

Nuff said

poppiesinaline · 21/11/2006 13:00

Maxine - thats it!! True, at least she was young

My friend 'dresses' the famous - often dresses Eastenders people etc, and yes, he just goes and buys whats in the highstreets at the time. But it just doesnt feel quite the same wearing a beloved garment when you've seen it sprawled across the screen on a soap opera.
