Netflix... Is it worth it?

I'm pretty ignorant in this field. I love films and i buy loads of DVDs. I swap them, share them with friends, especially love all the special features and extras on them.
Recently more and more people i know are going off DVDs and switching to netflix. Is there all the same stuff i'd get on a dvd? Commentaries, extras, etc.?

If you have friends with it would one of then let you use their subscription for a month to see if you like it?
My DP's teenager had it and IIRC there are 4 accounts on it, so she has one, a couple of her friends have one and DP has one. Each account could watch different things at the same time.

I'd personally not bother with it, but then I'd not bother with Sky which DP has always had and got installed when he moved in with me. I was quite happy with a freeview + box. But then I'm not bothered about films or sport.

I love netflix! I watch it a lot more than sky, to the point I'm thinking of cancelling sky altogether.

£6 a month lets 2 people watch different profiles at once, there's a more expensive package if you will have more than 2 on it at a time.

I'm not bothered with tv much either. Can't stand commercials, etc. had sky before, but decided its not worth it. I do love the convenience of a dvd, but is that getting old fashioned? Plus they keep piling up despite regular culling.

That's one plus - no ads on Netflix!

Why not sign up and have the months free trial and see how you like it?

Netflix, vevo, you tube, iTunes and you can mirror/ air play from your iPad

Does Apple subscription include Netflix or do you pay that separate?

We are a few weeks into the free trial. Square eyed DH has found loads to watch but I haven't. Not sure if we will carry on.

No Apple TV isn't a subscription it just turns your tv into a smart tv. It costs approx £79. You pay for netflix in the usual way.
I would recommend using US Netflix , you sign up to the UK netflux they change your DNS settings.

So Apple TV doesn't do anything more than the Xbox/PS does really then?

My DDs share an account and pay £3/£3.50 per month each. They have the US one as there seems to be better stuff on there. They don't watch much "normal" tv now, they binge on series.

IMHO the films are a bit meh - it's the TV series that are worth it.

Cheap at the price for us! We have had so much pleasure binge watching all the series we've ever wanted to see.

Tbh it's very hard going back to DVDs when you've got used to streaming.

It's completely transformed TV viewing in our house - we don't actually watch proper TV anymore.

We're not really that bothered about films so I can't comment on those, although if I am in a film mood there is always something to watch.

Me and the DCs find a series then we watch it from start to finish, it's our treat before bedtime, we're currently working our way through Malcolm in the Middle, I think we've picked out My Name is Earl for the next one.

I prefer grown-up stuff when they've gone to bed, love OISTNB so guess what I'll be watching tonight? Watched all of Dexter etc with Netflix. I have a massive list of things I want to watch so I'll never be short of TV.

Documentaries are great.

I also use US Netflix a lot, although do switch between UK and USA because Once Upon a Time was screened on UK Netflix two days after it was shown on TV in the US. Also I've quite got into Grimm which is only on UK Netflix.

I share my account with my neighbours - not bad for £6 a month.

How do you change to US Netflix? Do you need to do it on PC?

I spend most evenings watching (too much) TV.

Since BT gave me Netflix a few months ago now, my viewing habits have changed entirely. I have watched broadcast TV for just a few hours. I no longer watch Eastenders - which amazes me as I've watched it for 30 years! I have been watching Netflix almost exclusively for several months and there are still lots of shows to go. I guess I love it.

My DD's also love the kids shows & they have a separate log on so their shows/favs etc are kept away from mine. All their viewing is no on demand - no pesky ads (though I did catch my 4yo watching doll ads on You Tube - WTF? )

the Netlix shows I have watched have been really fantastic - House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Lilyhammer, Unstoppable Kimmie Schmidt etc

They do a months free trial I think and you don't have to sign up for a long contract - what's not to love?

We don't watch live TV at all, and instead we watch netdlux

Aaaargh Netflix/Amazon prime/Now tv and stream iPlayer and channel 4. We've cancelled the tv licence too.

Only advantage to Apple TV over x box etc is the ability to mirror from your iPad.
I use www.unblockus.com approx $5 a month but you can change the strings yourself if you know what you are doing. You can watch US netflix with x box , iPad , Apple TV etc not just a PC.

We like Apple TV because there is a huge choice. It's a bit like a visual spotify! We buy most things, very often films and lots of British tv. We don't do much USA TV, bought house of cards but got bored, must give it another go as we loved the old UK one, now sadly dated. I suspect if you like US TV series, Netflix would be good. We are thinking of getting it for DD (12) as she wants to see Pretty Little Liars via her XBox. I don't mind but she seems to have dropped the idea (for now). We still watch lots of TV, I'm watching life cricket right now and also do lots of recording and catch up. I think you can only cancel your TV licence if you don't watch on a TV but use other devices.

It's well worth the money loads of series to watch and great documentaries too.

You only need a TV license to watch "live" tv, netflix and on demand programmes aren't "live". You could still have sky with no license so long as you only watched through their on demand channel
