Well, I guess it's going to remain one of life's mysteries now unless our MI5 agent ice can find out. She's possibly a bit too tired to do much tonight - are you recovering from CJ's visit ice?

icemistOBE · 06/04/2015 21:15

There is a feedback email.

I think though if people were questioning the author on if they know BA etc and the reasoning for using what they did they just withdrew it.

OP posts:
icemistOBE · 06/04/2015 21:18

I have had a few messages to say 'it's not me' but my money is on a lurker of here and possibly FB groups etc and a good user of Twitter!

How intriguing about the Treading the Boards FF. ice maybe you could get one of your field agents out to get some Intel!!

If it has been taken down because it's a bit "stalker" like, would that suggest that BA is reading FF about himself?! And if he is reading FF, is he reading this... Ahhhhhhhhh.

Jen I do hope you're using CJ for QS research for another chapter Grin

Ilovelblue · 06/04/2015 21:31

If he is reading it, he is either highly amused, highly embarrassed or loves it and finds it a great ego boost. If he is reading it, please can he sign ice's photo which she sent in to the agency in November. We on this thread would be happy to represent you and also offer you a style makeover if you would like to take advantage of it.

Rhubarb01 · 06/04/2015 21:37

But Richtea the FF is about CJ! Hasn't he been staying with you recently? Perhaps you could tell us whether he enjoys the stories about himself. Or perhaps Jen could get his personal opinion on them and relay some feedback.

As for BA - well it might amuse members of his family or friends to read these threads or the stories (cringe! cringe! toes curling with embarrassment at the thought) However, I keep trying to convince myself that if its OK for people to publish continuation novels based on stories like Pride and Prejudice (possibly the greatest novel in the English language) or established authors to write approved new Sherlock Homes or James Bond stories plus its OK for someone to write three (they've agreed a new one) series of made-up Musketeers stories, then its OK to write a few stories on FF about fictional characters. Well that's my justification and I'm going to repeat it every day!

Ilovelblue · 06/04/2015 21:41

Rhubarb when he stayed with me, we were too busy with other things to discuss the stories about himself! We didn't need the made up stories!!

I agree with you about the spin-offs from Pride and Prejudice, 007 etc. You should be very proud of your stories - we're proud to say we know you! (Even if it's a virtual know and not a RL know).

icemistOBE · 06/04/2015 21:46

I think with the Treading... It was that you knew what you were reading actually happened to a real life person the name was just changed.

Anyhoo it's gone now, I'm still non the wiser as to who the writer is and I still don't have my autograph! Where do I complain lol

OP posts:
Nickel45 · 06/04/2015 21:50

rhubarb I make you right, it is definitely OK (more than OK, in my view!) for you to write continuation stories about a fictional character ... if I was TG, I think I would be flattered that people have taken his characters and wanted to use them to create their own stories. And all credit to BA and LT to give those characters the personalities that they did, so that six months after the series ended, we are still craving more! I do think it does need to be fictional characters though. Maybe the "Treading the Boards" veered too much into personal territory?

Onlygirljen · 06/04/2015 21:54

Evening! pixie you didn't half work on the upper leg strength, the man is a machine! Good work Grin

My view on the ff? I read it earlier this evening (can't have been long before it was deleted) and there was a review from the author along the lines of the fact that they were just a fan trying to do a different take on the story. I think it's just somebody who has panicked from the sheer weight of suspicion that they might know BA. I doubt they do, it's probably just somebody who reads this thread and is a member of the various social media groups, plus an idle googler.

Personally, I wouldn't do a RL story, much the same as I wouldn't take a personal photo from BAs Facebook etc and post it on here - for me, it's a CJ thing, not a BA thing. I do appreciate AU fics, and this one was well written, and a good idea, but did feel a bit close to the bone with a few references. Just personal opinion. It takes guts to put stuff up for public consumption, and I hope whoever it is hasn't been put off from doing any more stories.

Anyway, must run, I have a captain and an open manual to be dealing with! It may be a sleepless night! Easter GrinEaster Blush

icemistOBE · 06/04/2015 21:59

Agree Jen, they just used too much of BA actual real life and that's what made it uncomfortable reading.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 06/04/2015 21:59

I suppose there is a blurry line with TV or film characters as you associate the character with the actor's portrayal rather than something which existed on paper first (eg Mr Darcy was always in print first - some portrayals have worked better than others. Personally I don't like the Laurence Olivier version, in fact I hate the whole 1940 film version). They effectively merge into one. Try to imagine CJ being played by someone else. For example, what if Aiden Turner had played the role with completely different mannerisms etc, or the actor had been blonde rather than dark-haired would we have liked the series so much? I suppose there are a unique set of circumstances that make something work or not work and that's the chemistry. So any FF is always going to draw on what was there in the original version and its quite closely linked to the actor's portrayal.

Richtea19 · 06/04/2015 22:06

Totally agree that authors of FF are awesome, we have amazing authors on MN. Whoever the author is of Treading the Boards, don't give up as it was a really good story.

Glad to hear CJ is being a keen and eager solider jen

percyjackson1 · 06/04/2015 22:09

Rhu that kind of ties in with something that someone said many moons ago about BA and Iwan Rheon both auditioning for the same parts in OG and how we would have been devastated over Smurf dying because he was being played by BA - There - that was suitably vague of me!!!! Loving Misunderstood very very much. Back to real life now Smile

pixieg1rl · 06/04/2015 22:20

I think bluestone are using the OG mountain CP location!

Rhubarb01 · 06/04/2015 22:24

percy the mind boggles. The thought of Iwan playing CJ is inconceivable. I am of course now trying to imagine BA adopting a welsh accent and talking about his Aunt Linda's tattoo of a gondola on her arse! And it's really making me laugh.

I now know why I've been limiting my time on here recently because I was supposed to be writing for the last two hours and instead I've been following and joining in and I started it. Arghh!

Just to echo jen I also thought the writer of Treading the Boards had done a good job. It was a nice, snappy style of writing and I hope they'll try something else.

Nice to have a chat ladies. Keep up the good work. I must retire and get on with what needs doing. Enjoy CJ on his tour!

percyjackson1 · 06/04/2015 22:34

Then my work here is done....

Nickel45 · 06/04/2015 22:34

pixie BS42 and OG were filmed in the same location, weren't they? wasn't there something about it ages and ages ago? I think they used that same river in one of the earlier episodes too ... although can't remember which one, might have to watch them all again!

rhu I am supposed to be working too ... again! Been a complete nightmare of a weekend for work, and have been up most nights till the early hours (or not so early hours, the latest was 3am ... like being a student again!) trying to get stuff finished, and will be another late one tonight. Probably not helping by the fact that I keep dipping in here too! Hey ho, I need a bit of distraction, else my head will explode!

SoEverybodyDance · 06/04/2015 23:17

Hello you lovely, crazy ladies...

I've been lurking (since about thread number three) and have been giggling and spluttering tea over all your brilliant nonsense every since.

For all the madness, the trip reports, the stag pant diversions, the daily photos, the zombie rom com, the retro furniture positions, the 'I shagged CJ' tour (poor man, is he still alive?) - a big thank you.

You girls are the nuts.

Since lurking has taken a rather dark turn today, I think it's a good time to end my cloak and dagger lurking habit and come out of the closet (so to speak). So, from now on, I'll post a bit, lurk a bit and, hopefully keep on laughing a lot.

SoEverybodyDance

Ilovelblue · 06/04/2015 23:28

Hi there SoEverybodyDance. It's certainly a memorable day to break cover! We're loving your story. Welcome to the madness.

CJ is alive and well but tired tonight in Scotland. He's likely to be held captive there for a few days. Jen is a hard taskmistress and needs him for research!

Can we shorten your name maybe? It's quite a long one to write out each time.

Nickel45 · 06/04/2015 23:38

Hello dance (will that do for shortening .. is was either that or SED or So .... which would get confusing!), welcome!

I love your story (although can you get a guinea pig in some where?.... OK, I need to story popping in and actually get on with some work, my brain is just a tad fragged!), and so pleased you broke cover!

I hope the author of Treading the Boards is still reading this, and isn't put off writing, it was really good writing. I hope you feel you can pop in here, if you want to ... all the references to stuff on here made me giggle :) I am amazed people are still reading this, other than those of us who post all the time (quite scary how addictive it is!), but pleased that you are!

Right, back to work!

orphan · 07/04/2015 00:15

Hello dance! I'm enjoying your story so much.

I've said it before numerous times, but I am so grateful to the ff writers. I think I'm now more in love with the CJ of the various ff stories than the original Charles. I suppose it's because the stories have allowed us to see the relationship really develop and given us all the lovely romantic and smutty bits that we yearned for in the series.

I don't think the Tread the Boards writer actually really knew BA; just is a fan like us but with icemist level research skills! I was slightly distracted when reading the story - whenever a detail about his life was mentioned (such as his flat) I was wondering whether it was true! I do hope they write again though.

SoEverybodyDance · 07/04/2015 00:55

Hi, Ilovelblue, shortening my name to 'Dance' is fine and much better than 'So' or 'Everyone' which would be a bit weird! Good to know that CJ is still alive and being a keen and eager soldier...

Nickel45... Guinea pig? Let's see – I'm no SPO though... I did have CJ straddling an office chair in chapter two in honour of your mumsnet swivel chair obsession, but oddly enough, no one commented! There must have been something far more exciting going on that day!

Orphan, glad to meet you 'face to face' so to speak and so pleased the three of you are enjoying That's an Order. It's great to get positive feedback and I get so much enjoyment out of writing it too... I'm sorry, I'm a bit of a part timer, and I'm a bit confused about who here is who on the FF site... but are you pinerug? I do like that story, her 'regulation' knickers from the last update made me laugh... I hope you'll be updating soon?

Also hoping the LowSlungCombats will break cover somewhere, perhaps with Treading the Boards reworked. Aside from the BA references, it was shaping up into a nice story...

icemistOBE · 07/04/2015 06:47

Morning Grin

Glad you de-lurked dance that was me wondering if the flat, sleeping with his friend etc was all true! And I couldn't get that thought out of my head. I hope they do rework it and take the constant BA references out as it could have been a nice story.

Anyhoo, back to work today although I've struggled getting out of bed this morning.

And I see SPO has updated- saving it for the tram to work.

Hope everyone has a good day (we know jen will Grin)

Morning all. Not like me to be the first of the day on here. Very foggy here in Lancashire. Will need my lights on driving to work.

Dance Pinerug is pixie and It's Embarrassing is Whajeb. LJKBanana is Nipper. My early morning memory can't recall the others just now, ooops!

Do you have a plan for CJ and Molly in Kabul or are you waiting for inspiration?
