Blush

I was thinking about this the other day - in the beginning Pete, Kathy and Ian lived in a block of flats not far from the Square. Does anyone live there now? I didn't see it when they did those shots of the Square and Canary Wharf in the live episodes.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 27/02/2015 21:08

Didn't the flats get bulldozed in the 80s?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2015 21:11

Did they? I don't remember that. That would make sense. I just remember Kathy standing next to her knitting machine making jumpers for her stall.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 27/02/2015 21:18

I watched the first 20 episodes on YouTube a coupe of years ago, I think the male nurse and woman banker middle class couple set up "save our square" to try and save them, but we're unsuccessful. I could be very wrong.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2015 21:19

The male nurse died very young in real life didn't he?

I can see myself heading to Youtube!! Grin

SymphonyofShadows · 27/02/2015 21:23

He died aged 57, that's sad

I am LOVING Shaton!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2015 21:30

I met him at a knock-off version of the Ideal Home Exhibition. My mum chatted to him for ages (came from same place) whilst I stood there mortified, in a way only teenagers can!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2015 22:17

Andy the nurse?

And yes what's in shazza box and obv brother knew all about her

OP posts:
AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2015 22:20

Oh yes, Andy was his name!

I think Shazza's dad will be a rich gangster.

Fakebook · 27/02/2015 22:55

Shaton Grin love it!

I just watched Charlie Booker's Weekly Wipeout, really recommend it for the eastenders live week piss take Grin.

Yeah, Sharon's dad will be a rich man and help them all out of trouble, conveniently. Her brother will end up moving to the square and then lose his job and all graphic designing jobs will cease to exist so he'll end up working for Sharon in the Albert and do something dodgy, take all her money and leave.

RedCrayons · 27/02/2015 22:57

Anne - London has got a lot smaller since the 80s. There's Walford and Up West.

If you leave the square you have to either go to live in Manchester or Birmingham.

exWifebeginsat40 · 27/02/2015 23:24

Mick told someone he was sending Linda 'up London' to have her hair done and that.

what on earth?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2015 23:28

Oh yes, you are right Red. I don't know what I was thinking.

In the olden days people also moved to Norwich (The Carpenters). I expect Norwich disappeared in the recession.

RedCrayons · 28/02/2015 00:03

Yep, no more Norwich. Oh and Kat and Alfie were nearly housed in Hull or somewhere because there's only 12 houses in London and they're all full. Poor Londoners.

GallicIsCharlie · 28/02/2015 00:20

That's really happening, Red. Councils in the North-East are being paid by London boroughs to take the poor off their hands.

I used to have friends in Wandsworth who'd never been to the West End and called it 'London'. That was in the 80s, though, so maybe Sarf Lannan's moved to Birmingham.

Here's where the 'real' Albert Square is :)

Actually I got it wrong, I’ve just seen the episode i was talking about. the flats they were trying to save were the houses directly across from the pub, and are still standing.

Ian lived in the block behind the car lot. Which does seem to have completely vanished.

Nativity3 · 28/02/2015 07:15

I think the 'fact' was badly worded. They film lots more than 13 minutes a day but I think it was trying to say that they film about 13 minutes of a particular episode in a day. They might film lots of small 'lots' for various episodes in a day! But not all the cast are on set every day, so it balances out work wise.

PaulaJane37 · 28/02/2015 10:19

Not at all relevant but PC Evans (Adam McNamara) in last night episode is one of me best pals! Went out with him when we were at school, he joined the police and worked only team, I introduced him to my operatic society (we do musicals not opera) and he decided acting was for him! So basically I am responsible for him being on the TV!! Woooo! X

PaulaJane37 · 28/02/2015 10:20

*worked on MY team!! Jeezo! Claim to fame ruined by a typo!

SymphonyofShadows · 28/02/2015 11:12

I missed the doof doof's due to cries of Muuuuuuum, is Dean dead?

Mrsjayy · 28/02/2015 11:28

Oh poor sharon I sense she is going to be shaton for ever more Grin The police just said they wanted to talk to shurl about Dean

Mrsjayy · 28/02/2015 11:29

Then the duff duff

youarekiddingme · 28/02/2015 12:17

Does anyone think 'L' did call Dean and he answered?
