I think Max has been protecting Abbi thinking it was her all along. In the next episode she will explain that she didnt.

We've just rewound it several times and still can't be sure what he said. It sounds like "she knows whether you killed Lucy" but seems like an odd line. I think Max might think it's Abi but it's not.
