It's back on Thursday! here. No details of contestants yet. How many men this time? Any?

Ten sewers, six weeks, can't wait!

(Can't think of another word for sewers at the moment, wish I could!)

Yes this series is much shorter! What a shame.

Agree that Matt has improved. Deborah is so much better than I thought at the beginning. Lorna didn't do so well this week - although she seems very competitive! A couple of weeks ago I was sure it would be between her and Neil but I'm not sure now - Neil is excellent all the time!

SoupDragon · 26/02/2015 21:55

It can only be a week shorter. They have the same number of contestants as last year don't they? I'm not sure. As someone else said, I don't feel I know them as well as I did last year. Most odd.

storynanny2 · 26/02/2015 22:06

You can get a fake over locker foot for a sewing machine? I want one, are they easily available to fit any machine?

MrsHathaway · 26/02/2015 22:43

Neil is boring though ::whines:: so although he'll cruise to the final he hasn't the flair to win.

Gutted for Ryan but the editing showed us he would go. Amanda got on my tits.

Love Deborah. She annoyed me at first but now I get her.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/02/2015 22:47

I love Neil, he's not boringShock

His kilt was so swishy and perfect. He's such an amazing sempstress.

What is the masculine of sempstress? Grin

MrsHathaway · 26/02/2015 22:49

Seamster, I think.

There's nothing original in what he does. He's an engineer, not an artist. He'd welcome that distinction!

LaurieFairyCake · 26/02/2015 22:54

Bbbbut we're not looking for a great artist are we?

He's the best sewer by a mile. Lornas fab too but he's better.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 07:29

I don't think Neil lacks flair. I've been surprised at some of his garments given they've come from a military man obsessed with precision.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 07:30

I thought the dress he managed to make from the 80s Power Suit was amazing really.

dillite · 27/02/2015 09:35

Storynanny, yes you can. Here's a link to a Brother one (I have Brother)

MissYamabuki · 27/02/2015 10:02

dillite what an amazing idea! I've looked at the video - it looks simple enough but I wish she'd used a dark thread so you could see the finish better at the end.

I have a Brother machine, too, so this will go on my present wish list - I'm too skint ATM. Thank you!

Clockingoff · 27/02/2015 12:32

Shocked that Ryan has gone. He had real flair and talent and stood out in my view.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 12:58

Because of that fake overlocker post, I have wasted lots of time googling feet for my Janome. I am tempted by a pin tuck foot (why do I need one of those?) a bias binding foot, a button foot, blind stitch foot, rolled hemmer and a sliding glide foot. And possible some others. No overlocker though!

5Foot5 · 27/02/2015 13:54

I was a bit shocked that Ryan went, but he did have a bad week bless him!

Neil is amazing how could anyone say he is boring!!!??

I quite like Matt's sense of humour. LOL when he was telling Claudia that he had really applied for Bake Off and wasn't sure what happened!

dillite · 27/02/2015 16:15

Soupdragon, I am so happy I am skint, as otherwise I would be buying all of the feet. I wouldn't use them obviously, as I don't need them, but hey, at least I would have them all.

florentina1 · 27/02/2015 17:05

I was sorry that Ryan went. It was a close call, I wonder if they thought he might not have the mental stamina for the final weeks. I thought the camera lingered tool long on his stress.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 17:09

I think Ryan should have stayed and Paul should have gone. However, based on this week and this week alone, I think they might have been right, much as it pains me to admit it.

dillite I have resisted buying any feet. I need to identify the ones I've got first! I only use the standard foot.

PigeonPie · 27/02/2015 17:29

Inspired by this thread I've actually got the instruction book out which I last read when I was given my machine (for my 21st birthday, but that was only 5 years ago wasn't it?).

I knew most of them but I've discovered I've got an overcasting / overlocking foot! There's no piping foot though and I don't know whether I can get one for my old Riccar.

PigeonPie · 27/02/2015 17:30

Strikeout fail!

MrsHathaway · 27/02/2015 18:35

I have about eight feet on my extremely clever Viking. If you choose certain stitches it grumbles at you to change foot.

They are labelled alphabetically. To date I have used:

A

SoupDragon · 27/02/2015 18:46

I have also used Foot A! :)

dillite · 27/02/2015 18:55

I regularly use a J, G, I and A feet. I have also used a N foot once. I need a hidden zip foot. And piping foot even though I dislike piping.

waithorse · 27/02/2015 19:31

Can anyone tell me what the garment of the week was, please ? I seem to have missed that bit.

PigeonPie · 27/02/2015 19:41

T'was Neil's Kilt.
