Broadchurch thread 2- the one where everyone in MNPD requests a transfer to the traffic division

Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

Prosecution has to prove their case, defendant does not to prove his/innocence, but likely nowadays that jurors do make an inference from the lack of testimony.
I actually liked it that they end it that way - there is one more episode, and the impact of the acting from everyone as they waited would have been lost if we then had the verdict.
The acting is superb!
(Do they really now refer to 'Madam the Foreperson?)

DontGotoRoehampton · 17/02/2015 15:48

And yy re not looking at the defendant - I think they will have to find him NG if it is true there is 3rd series. Specially as they did the Mark questions.

APlaceInTheWinter · 17/02/2015 17:02

I'm actually enjoying it again even though it's all nonsense. I like that it's throwing up the difference between being guilty and being found guilty; and the fact that ultimately our legal process is about evidence which may or may not lead to justice.

I also loved the junior prosecutor calling out the junior defence for being horrible Grin

SpanishFly · 17/02/2015 17:04

Could any of you legal experts clarify something? Last night, the jury asked if Mark had been questioned in relation to the murder. However, I thought the jury were only allowed to ask for a recap of any information that they had been told in the trial - ie they arent allowed to ask for new information??

SpanishFly · 17/02/2015 17:05

Also a few PPs have mentioned DT's accent - I think he speaks very clearly and have no problem at all understanding him.

VeronicaCaCa · 17/02/2015 17:33

I hadn't noticed any mumbling or hard to hear/understand dialogue either.

Maybe we just have a better telly than other posters Grin

OnlyLovers · 17/02/2015 17:37

I had to replay the bit with the 'wee clue', but not because of DT's accent, more because it was all quite fast and mumbled and I'm not really following developments anyway, TBH.

GentlyBenevolent · 17/02/2015 17:39

Yes. It's Wee LIE. He thinks he has caught Lee out in a lie. Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't.

OnlyLovers · 17/02/2015 17:56

Oh yes! I knew that but still mistyped it. Confused

SpanishFly · 17/02/2015 18:37

ha, that's what it must be, VeronicaCaCa Grin

RealHousewifeOfSheffield · 17/02/2015 18:57

Not sure if this has already been suggested but I say, B3 = who killed Joe (after he's found not guilty next week)

SpanishFly · 17/02/2015 19:00

Thats what I came on to say!!! Joe is found not guilty, and he's stabbed as he leaves the courtroom!!

DontGotoRoehampton · 17/02/2015 19:13

Yes interesting re BC3.
Joe found NG next week and then )released - but not stabbed) ...what?
What happens when a person is freed to go back to the community where everyone thinks he did it ( and maybe he did?)

DontGotoRoehampton · 17/02/2015 19:15

does he then go back to his old job?
House is presumably half his.
You never see this part.

Nerf · 17/02/2015 19:15

Joe joins the sad paedophile group and Beth finds herself running a charity benefitting the man who likes her son. Deffo.

MissM · 17/02/2015 19:29

Will the sad paedophile group need a fence putting up around their church? (Just looking to cast Lee in BC3)

Nerf · 17/02/2015 19:30

Yes. In a flood hopefully

ChaiseLounger · 17/02/2015 19:31

How are they going to find him guilty? Seriously? Yes it's weird he didnt testify.
But can you be SURE? Sure Joe murdered Danny? How, where, why. Have the jury been supplied irrefutable evidence. Are any of us 100% SURE? Would you be able to convict?

Nope, didn't think so.

whothehellknows · 17/02/2015 19:38

If he did go free, I reckon Ellie would kill him. There would be a moment where she looked at him, and then looked at her sons... and BAM.

Even if he doesn't get off, Ollie will have been merrily tweeting all the defense theories. So the towns people will be looking askance at Mark & Nigel for being potential killers and Ellie for sleeping with Alek. Messy.

whothehellknows · 17/02/2015 20:30

Also, the hairbrush. That actually made me tear up.

LifeOfBriony · 17/02/2015 20:52

YY DH also said that Madam Foreperson (!) would not have looked at Joe if he was about to be found guilty.

So Claire and Lee are finished, but will guard each other's secrets- except that Claire has now given Hardy the pendant. I didn't like Lee grabbing Claire by the hair and dragging her into the sea - to me, this shows him to be a nasty piece of work. Both equally guilty?

Btw, I can't help thinking of Tess of the d'Urbervilles; Alec, Tess, and Clare all being the names of characters in the book, and Hardy being the author's name. Just me?

APlaceInTheWinter · 17/02/2015 21:10

The Daily Mail is predictably trying to stir up outrage about Maggie and Jocelyn's kiss. The ability to scandalise the Daily Mail and to bring us the wonder of fence-building Lee - really I think that's enough to justify BC2's commission Grin

EauRouge · 17/02/2015 21:35

If anyone gets outraged over that kiss then they have too much time on their hands. I thought it was quite romantic. And there was defo no tongue visible.

HmmAnOxfordComma · 17/02/2015 22:31

LifeofBriony No, not just you. Hardy's wife's surname (in BC, not real Hardy) is Henchard from The Mayor of Casterbridge, and I'm sure there are more: Tom, of course (Ellie's son), all the Elizabeths (also M of C).

No Bathshebas, though, I don't think!

eddiemairswife · 17/02/2015 22:33

Can't think who Tess is. However just looked in Radio Times and her surname is Henchard (Mayor of Casterbridge).
