I'd love that and the setting Athos free thing BUT seeing how much she was involved in the fucking overseas promo I can't see it. She is the main female protagonist and, let's be honest, Athos wouldn't be half as angsty, repressed and moody without her. If it goes into S3 (hurry up and announce Beeb) then she has to be in it. Plus girl crush.

I still think it's Kingy. Adrian talked about Mazarin being a potential story arc for S3. I'm a bit fuzzy on the history but am pretty sure he was advisor to the Queen when the King died and the Dauphin needed a regent council. It not only makes sense re Ryan Gage's career but also re plot / history.

Loved last night, Athos was looking and sounding just utterly fuckable, and the hot cloaks were back.

Loved the bursting into the Spanish safe house, and I though the spaghetti western overtones to the music was a v.funny touch.

I'm liking all the politics - and actually Anne's hair is shown as blonde in her portraits so that is more accurate. What isn't is that she was in her mid thirties when she had Louis, but I guess bringing the Dauphin in now is a good plot device.

Need to rewatch and then i'll have more thoughts, but I liked it.

Ep3 now at No4 on the Iplayer list. Better.

I did actually read that Milady rumour a few days ago on Twitter. One of the main characters HAS to go this season. It can't be a Musketeer. I reckon it'll be her AND Rochefort. = brand new villains & stories for S3.

I liked fancy's link. Read their reviews of all 3 episodes and really liked what they wrote.

Adrian has been explicit about the fact that Dumas/history is inspiration only. Rochefort was the Cardinal's lackey but here bears no resemblance whatsoever - the same may be true of Mazarin. Although I do agree it might be a good plot device because the Musketeers protecting the Regency from all those who wouldn't want a Spanish Queen having authority would create huge numbers of swashbuckling moments. I think Anne's relationship with Mazarin was more like they are depicting with Rochefort, as close confidante who she trusts and has known for a long time.
