Anybody seen the new series first episode tonight? OMG. Superb. Everything I was hoping for and more. The seeds are sown for much drama to come, and all our fellas are on fine form, with room to get finer.

I AM PSYCHED.

They may well play it that the shock has affected his memory and over time he does begin to remember fragments. Then there'll be more trouble with Jackson being a sap about her and refusing to believe it.

I want Susan to get her comeuppance for lying about Matilda. Even if her "my daddy" schtick is wearing thin imo. Was lovely in the bedroom scene but for some reason annoyed me when she and the councillor woman met Drake in the street.

And I want Drake to have something to smile about, hope Rose doesn't break his heart again. Does her fiancé know she was a prostitute?

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2014 13:47

Omg! Have watched episode six so I KNOW REID'S FATE

but I will wait until others have seen it before going omg omg etc :)

Episode 6 is the best yet for me. It has everything.

I've just finished watching it.

Really really good. And unexpected. In a really good way. Am I repeating myself? Wink

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2014 15:07

Fid, I laughed out loud three times in the ep. That never happens in Ripper Street! Yes, all very unexpected and finely crafted.

Abberline seems to have a short memory or are cops allowed to get away with murder I wonder....?

Jackson providing all kinds of relief, what a fella.

His new lady friend is truly a firecracker.

Finely crafted and confident. Not the "and so it continues" but it did continue as it should.

Jackson without the hat but with the borrowed suit, yes please.
And "I'll need tea. With whiskey." I'd leave out the tea.

Abberline - as Drake said, there were no witnesses. Supposition/assumption at best. Plus I think Abberline's gone soft on Reid and that may be in accordance with the times and his character. He did seem more concerned with Reid being up to the job, devoted to the job and in control, whatever sympathy he had re Matilda and Reid being shot. Reid now seems both devoted and in control, if somewhat subdued.

PhaedraIsMyName · 12/12/2014 22:15

Does her fiancé know she was a prostitute?

Given Rose's unfailing ability to make things as difficult as possible for herself I'm sure she's told him and he's able to deal with it.

I thought it was clever writing tonight. When we first saw Morton I think we were meant to assume he was just another rich, shallow toff but he's not. He really loves her and he knows Bennet does too. Quandary.

diddl · 12/12/2014 22:27

So what was the significance of Jackson finding the gun at the end?

Fiderer · 13/12/2014 05:57

There are fingerprints on it and he's just done his first fingerprinting. So he must be thinking maybe Capshaw didn't shoot Reid, that it was Susan.

Good-oh, I much prefer him with Mimi.

Much as I liked Jackson in his suit, I didn't like Reid's new look. Then when he smiled/laughed at the end he looked like the old (imo) most attractive Reid. What's he up to?

diddl · 13/12/2014 08:56

i wondered at first if he just recognised the gun as Susan's, but fingerprint makes more sense!

If Jackson had been at the scene he would have realised that Reid ad been shot from behind & that it couldn't have been Capshaw.

Hope that she doesn't get away with it.

Anyone think that Jackson might give her the heads up though?

Bunbaker · 13/12/2014 09:01

What channel is it on? How have I missed it?

Fiderer · 13/12/2014 09:26

Bunbaker It's streamed on Amazon Prime first (as they financed it when the BBC cancelled it) and will be shown on the BBC next year.

diddl Re the scene: Susan was standing behind Capshaw/a curtain? and shot Reid. So the ballistics made sense. Also hope she doesn't get away with it. Not sure though cos of the scene where Jackson tells her he knows she was behind the robbery then shags her in the alley as the "woman I love" and tells Reid he thought she knew nothing about it Hmm

Surely the Matilda story and shooting Reid would convince him he can't pretend any more.

I have so much to do today that I'm avoiding and am tempted to re-watch RS as I love the way they talk. Like the idea of asking my children "Please do bring the refreshments as I require some restorative." I.e. "Another gin please."

Bunbaker · 13/12/2014 12:01

Oh right. Thank you. I look forward to it then. I hope they improve the sound quality or I will be watching it with the subtitles on.

MorrisZapp · 13/12/2014 18:55

Surely the love story is developing though between Capt Jackson and Mimi, there is real trust between them now. If he shags Susan Tinyface again I'll be most annoyed.

But out of loyalty I think he'll give her the nod and help her to make an escape if need be. Meanwhile Reid gets cheerier by the day. Watch out Lady Councillor!

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/12/2014 19:52

I agree re Susan. Never took to her. Mimi is far more likeable.

diddl · 20/12/2014 21:59

Anyone else seen ep7?

Is this the best series so far?

Do we think that it will end completely after ep8?

PhaedraIsMyName · 22/12/2014 23:19

Really good. I'm so pleased for Rose and Bennett .

PhaedraIsMyName · 27/12/2014 10:15

Anyone seen Episode 8? Good , very good apart from 1 , actually 2 things.

diddl · 29/12/2014 18:20

Just watched it.

What didn't you like?

PhaedraIsMyName · 29/12/2014 20:16

Killing off Fred Best. Not necessary. I liked him. He had integrity and he was the one who put them in the right direction.

Jackson getting back with Susan. Can't stand her.

diddl · 29/12/2014 22:30

Yes that was sad.

Yes I also hated Susan.

would have been happy to see her hang.

And was really hoping that someone would shoot her dad!

How many years did she sleep with jackson & other men the then the one time she gets pregnant??

i was quite hoping that he would tell her that he didn't believe it was his.

He was pretty much an arsehole this whole series though.
