Anybody seen the new series first episode tonight? OMG. Superb. Everything I was hoping for and more. The seeds are sown for much drama to come, and all our fellas are on fine form, with room to get finer.

I AM PSYCHED.

Ok. The fake clairvoyant who died so very hammily at the start was...

... Jason Manford.

I know!!

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 25/11/2014 10:43

Reid and Abberline were real?

Bloody hell! I did not know that.

OP posts:
diddl · 25/11/2014 12:27

I thought that that would be the character you meant, but the actor's name meant nothing to me.

Reid

Abberline

diddl · 26/11/2014 08:27

Oh, and did anyone else find themselves thinking of "heads, shoulders knees & toes2 when Rose was singing?Blush
Grin

MorrisZapp · 26/11/2014 10:28

Lol, that's it! Exactly! I was going mad thinking what tune it was :)

OP posts:
diddl · 26/11/2014 11:32

Well, just googled & H,S,K&Ts is sung to the tune of "There's a Tavern in the Town"Hmm

So that would explain it!Grin

MorrisZapp · 28/11/2014 22:51

Anybody watch tonight's? I'm dying to talk about it but don't want to include spoilers!

I felt it needed editing to be honest, and some of the expository dialogue was toe curling. I also felt deeply uncomfortable about a teenage girls safety being used to seek thrills so openly. The door getting kicked in as she was on the verge of being violently attacked was a step too far for me in credibility etc but I'm trying to go along with the flow.

With THAT ending I have no idea how they can get four more episodes out of this.

Fiderer · 29/11/2014 06:43

Agghh, no, not yet. Have Prime but here in Forrin I can't get the English versions. So I went elsewhere but ep4's not up yet.

Have to work now but maybe it'll be up by the time I get home. Nothing like a bit of Victorian drama and gore to look forward to.

Didn't think it was likely that Matilda would have run off like that. She doesn't, in her mind, even have her wings to fly home.

diddl · 29/11/2014 08:20

Not seen it yet either.

But I suppose when Matilda overheard that she was to be sent away, then it seemed the best option?

Fiderer · 30/11/2014 09:05

Just watched it Shock

I realised before they got to the opening credits how I love the music and the way they speak, particularly MM as he has such a great voice. The style of dialogue works well for all the characters. So am not as bothered by the minor plot/exposition clunks.

Actress playing Matilda did really well. Still don't understand why revealing she was alive would have connected Capshaw and Susan to the bail bond/train wreck.

How long should we wait before spoilering? I couldn't believe -redacted- Grin

diddl · 30/11/2014 09:46

Am about to take the dog out & will be watching when I get back.
(Ridiculously excitedBlush)

End of series 2, was there ever a resolution about Jeremiah Shine(?) who was I think a corrupt cop?

diddl · 30/11/2014 16:55

Fabulous!

Can we discuss it yet??

Fiderer · 30/11/2014 19:07

Seems to be mainly you, me, and Morris and the episodes have been streamed so I'd say yes.

I thought it was great (though bits annoyed me esp Capt J and Susan) and I was a bit teary at the scene in the house with Matilda which I very rarely am at TV shows. Assumed it would be too clichéd (sp?) to have the reunion and then have something happen to Matilda or Reid.

Bloody hell.

diddl · 30/11/2014 19:16

When Jackson was at Reid's house & said that he thought Susan was innocent, then Reid introduced Matilda, I was nearly screaming "how can you be so bloody stupid, she told this poor man that his daughter was dead".

And the ending I'm hoping isn't as it seems.

Surely Susan has to redeem herself someway by getting Jackson asap & he'll be able to tell what happened?

PhaedraIsMyName · 30/11/2014 21:02

I'm 3 episodes in and loving it. It's gone to a new level.

If anyone has watched all of it do Rose and Bennett end up together?

I'm loving Jackson's new love interest. I do hope Susan comes to a bad end; I never liked her.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 30/11/2014 23:44

Just watched ep 4. It's bloody good telly isn't it? Grin

MorrisZapp · 05/12/2014 11:12

I think we can go for it and sod spoilers, nobody will find us in here!

Tonight's episode is about a gang taking advantage of weaknesses in H Division and running amok in the area - presumably because Reid is either too dead (unlikely) or indisposed to crack down.

Drake will need to raise his game. Jackson will need to be roused from the bed of his paramour. Unlikely.

And poor annoying Matilda Reid will need to rely on the kindness of strangers again. Hope she remembers her name this time.

Can't wait! Head, shoulders, knees and toes :)

OP posts:
diddl · 05/12/2014 12:23

I'm hoping that he isn't dead.

IRL, I think that this is about the time that he retired due to ill health.

He's left Matilda with Jane(?) Cobham(?) hasn't he?

Maybe she'll nurse him back to health!

I think that he did marry more than one IRL as well...

diddl · 05/12/2014 12:25

more than once!

This from Wiki;

"Reid was "a Druid of Distinction" and was awarded the Druids Gold Medal."[5] In addition, he reached professional standards in acting, singing and sleight of hand. The Weekly Despatch described him as "one of the most remarkable men of the century".

Sounds like an interesting man!

PhaedraIsMyName · 05/12/2014 18:19

Oh Reid won't be dead.

MorrisZapp · 05/12/2014 21:51

Nope, not dead! After last weeks flabby and slightly luck-pushing episode this week is a blazing return to plot, drama and mystery. Absolutely loved it. The brewery brothers were suitably scary, with room for a late redemption.

And a love story for Jackson too, superb. Rose's character stays frustratingly static but all others involved provide the emotional hooks.

What will happen next??

OP posts:
PhaedraIsMyName · 05/12/2014 22:04

Episode 5 Wow !!!

I could hardly bear to watch the brewery boys and Grace. Teddy was positively Shakespearean.

Morris did you really think 4 was flabby? My stomach was in knots from the point Harry Ward picked up Matilda. The queue on the stairs at the brothel was horrific.

Am I the only person who likes Rose? I do wish she and Bennett would stop setting up obstacles for themselves.

I really like Jackson' s new love interest.

PhaedraIsMyName · 05/12/2014 22:07

Oh and aren't the clothes just fabulous? On just about every character?

Fiderer · 11/12/2014 08:27

I'm beginning to like Abberline, "duchess" Grin That was pretty tense and agree about the plot and drama.

Jackson's new love interest - yes, but no more 'still loves Susan/Caitlin' stuff.

I can't forgive Rose yet for my having "H,S,K and T, willow tree" Hmm in my head for a week.

Anyone else worried that Susan will smother Reid so he doesn't let on that she must have shot him?

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/12/2014 20:27

Anyone else worried that Susan will smother Reid so he doesn't let on that she must have shot him?

Exactly what I thought. Maybe he will pretend he can't remember or go along with her version.
