Child Genius (C4)

Anyone planning to watch this?

I was a little like these children; joined Mensa as a child, but used my ability to coast through school/university rather than to achieve anything noteworthy.

DS2 is also of this ilk. We are not doing any of the things these parents are doing, although when opportunities arise through school then obviously we let him participate.

But jocelyn's parents haven't taught her any mental discipline. She needs that.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 20/07/2014 21:50

Where is the article on Shoshana?

Dolly80 · 20/07/2014 21:50

Is navigational memory recall really that useful in real life?

scarletforya · 20/07/2014 21:50

Didn't see that ninja, just turned it on.

Iffy2014 · 20/07/2014 21:51

Wow, slightly biased to London kids then?!

I would never have heard of the Underground at their age.

upyourninja · 20/07/2014 21:51

Shock Shock Shock Rubiyat

Awesome!

MissWimpyDimple · 20/07/2014 21:51

Rubiyats parents seem sweet too.

SauvignonBlanche · 20/07/2014 21:52

Despite struggling with the maths test I wonder whether Jocelyn may at least be the one that goes far in the real world?

Because she knows Old McDonald in Latin? Hmm

zumby · 20/07/2014 21:52

I don't want to watch poor lovely Jocelyn attempt this round :(

deepest · 20/07/2014 21:52

What end goal do these parents have in sight for their children GCSEs at 9 - degree at 12, post grad at 13?....then where? so that they can be working/earning at 14 ? -- I thought as a society we had addressed child labour in the Victorian age?

Pressurized rote learning spelling & mental arithmetic...not far off sweat shops if you ask me -- hot housing!

As a society we need problem solvers, creatives, team workers and inspirational leaders to solve our future issue....can you see any evidence of this here?

upyourninja · 20/07/2014 21:53

Someone provided the link earlier. Aaliyah's mum has multiple personality disorder due to childhood abuse, apparently. Awful.

TheFirstOfHerName · 20/07/2014 21:54

I think Rubiyat could well be another Shrinidhi.

OP posts:
scarletforya · 20/07/2014 21:54

Crikey, more looky-likely parents....Aliyahs!

Wtf!?

TheSpottedZebra · 20/07/2014 21:54

Tudor is ace.
He walks with swagger!

Iffy2014 · 20/07/2014 21:55

Curtis' grandmother is wearing a Christmas jumper; did no one tell her this was airing in July?!

Smartiepants79 · 20/07/2014 21:55

Many of these children must be destined for a life in academia.

upyourninja · 20/07/2014 21:55

Agreed, deepest. What's the point?

Fine if the children are driving their learning and just want to learn more and more, but otherwise, Bad Parenting in my book.

ThunderbumsMum · 20/07/2014 21:56

I am really disliking Tudor's dad. Wtf does it matter if his kid comes second? Fgs.

Dolly80 · 20/07/2014 21:56

"The pressure is getting to Tudor"

That would probably be because he is 8 years old!

Lilka · 20/07/2014 21:56

I quite like Jocelyn's parents. Unconventional but nice

Vivacia · 20/07/2014 21:56

If that background is true, I think that the show was wrong to include the family.

upyourninja · 20/07/2014 21:56

Tudor's dad is just ruuuude!

TheSpottedZebra · 20/07/2014 21:56

This was the story of Shoshana's awful upbringing theforgivenessproject.com/visitor/dr-shoshana-garfield/ It's pretty grim reading, she was abused.

MissWimpyDimple · 20/07/2014 21:56

Wow. Tudors dad. BlushShock

Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2014 21:56

what's all this crap about the London Underground?

Is this a series because I'm not watching another episode of this.
