Hi yes - if you've seen it before no spoilers please!

Ha! I won't spoil it for you! Be interested to hear what you thought of the whole thing though. It caused quite a stir when it aired here in Ireland.

The continuous flashbacks are irritating (mainly because it's late and you have to concentrate harder than usual). Episode 3 was a waste of space, bit too drawn out. 25 mins to go and hope it delivers!

Finished... Maybe too tired after a very long day but did not get the ending? Assuming tonight's was the last part - showed her walking down a lane and ... Not much else??

Iirc episode 2 showed her being killed in a car crash - the car was driven by the bloke who is in prison.

But blowed if I can remember why she got off the train where she did, and where she was going.......

No airforsharon, you are wrong there. The girl that died in the car was another girl.
We never find out what happened to Amber - she remains a 'missing person'.

I thought that air shore but then thought that the girl killed in the car crash was the older woman they found buried in the woods? Got very confusing !

I agree. Not all crime dramas need to be solved but just so many loose ends. Enjoyed it in the main but felt the ending was unsatisfactory.

Yes, you are right lilo! The girl in the car was the body found in the woods.
Amber misses her stop on the train and gets off to walk back. That is where her story ends.....

What was the consensus when it aired in Ireland MsPeterPan?

Can't believe I spent 4 hours of my life on this thing and we don't actually find out what's happened to her! Gutted.

Everyone here in Ireland also shared your unsatisfaction at the ending! But, as some pointed out, we are left feeling the same way as Ambers parents are....frustrated at never knowing what happened to her.

The producer of the drama was interviewed on radio here. He confirmed that she was indeed dead...and that all the water imagery throughout the drama was probably relevant!

So how did the bloke in prison know about the mermaids on her bedroom wall?

consensus in ireland was that it had duped people in to giving up four hours of their life.

I know programme makers defended it saying that uncertainty is what families live with for ever, and that the uncertainty, frustration and confusion you feel at the end of the programme is but a fraction of what families of missing teenagers feel, and yes, viewers can appreciate that, but TV should be a bit more entertaining. Or at least if its priority is not to entertain but to frustrate then it should label itself honestly.

It certainly got people talking about it though!

I know where you are coming from airforsharon, maybe she was killed in the crash and body in wood was a red herring. I guess in a way it was a more real life portrayal of an unsolved missing person case complete with frustration etc.

I thought it was great. It was like missing person cases generally are instead of a neatly tailored storyline with everything that happened being clearly spelt out. I found the ending harrowing. I'll not forget it.

One thing I really liked about it - although it was about a missing girl there was no gore. It was a thoughtful, quiet drama iykwim. Which is almost a thing of wonder given how many crime dramas involve truly hideous sexual abuse and violence towards women.
