That's it really.
Very atmospheric I thought and ending had me clutching my pearls as it were...
As I guessed ending [just before end!] I was peering through fingers thinking 'no, no'...

Loved this, second time around for me as already been on in Wales. Really atmospheric captured the area so well. No spoilers but gets darker as goes on. Richard Harrington brilliant.

SapphireMoon · 29/04/2014 18:56

Kept suspecting the older policeman in charge of something. Over active imagination maybe...
Looking forward to next episode.

I enjoyed it. Looking forward to next week's episode.

Took me back to my student days in Aberystwyth long, long ago - which seemed odd as I distinctly rum and black in the bar of the supposed children's home c.1973.
Apart from that I thought it was very good, even though they rather overdid the atmospheric music. Maybe a shame BBC4 didn't go with the subtitled versionubut the mix of Welsh and English is much more typical of the area where it is set.
Had to smile at 'The Indendent' reviewers comment about the 'B' roads - those are the 'A' roads!

I watched it online & thought that it was so fab I watched them allBlush
Nuff said!!

Catsmamma · 30/04/2014 08:01

I did not enjoy it at all, all the moody grey seemed affected

I did laugh at the end bit with police chap having to zoom hither and yon in his 4wd in the sunshine....bet they were furious about it not raining.

springchickennolonger · 30/04/2014 09:13

I didn't realise it was on again. I've watched it in English and Welsh. I think I preferred it in Welsh with subtitles. Best telly to come out of Wales for a while imo.

Deathraystare · 30/04/2014 15:20

Another one I missed! I am getting good at this! Managed to catch up on iplayer.

I reallyenjoyed it despite constant interruptions from my mum and aunt.
Loved the scenery. It that waterfall rally there??

squoosh · 30/04/2014 15:51

The world and his wife has been watching Scandi TV.

guineapiglet · 30/04/2014 16:33

I watched some episodes in Welsh on S4C and thought it was brilliant, I love that part of Wales and thought stories were well written.. much better in welsh with subtitles I thought as made it more authentic and mysterious! Love the main detective, he's very watchable. Wink...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/04/2014 16:42

I've seen the first series - it's one of the best things on the box!

mejon · 30/04/2014 21:15

Deathraystare - the waterfall is in Devil's Bridge (as was the 'children's home' - it is a hotel called the Hafod Hotel irl). I live around 4m away but have never actually seen the waterfall.

BarbaraPalmer · 30/04/2014 21:45

just caught up on iplayer. was excellent. am already hooked.

NomDePrune · 30/04/2014 23:39

Does anyone know what the music is that the bbc is using in the trailer? It's really haunting me and I want to hear the whole song. Have yet to watch first episode so not sure if it's used in the actual programme.

susiedaisy · 01/05/2014 21:21

Just watched it. I enjoyed itSmile

bettys · 01/05/2014 21:41

Well I enjoyed it but it was way more grim than the Aberystwyth of my student days. Not a great advert for the tourist board; it always did rain a lot but they made Borth & Devil's Bridge look very depressing! The mix of Welsh & English is very typical of the area, though it would have maybe added to the atmosphere to have it all in Welsh with subtitles…but perhaps the Mathias character isn't meant to be Welsh? It wasn't clear whether he is from London or just worked at the Met.

slartybartfast · 02/05/2014 06:18

caught up with it on Iplayer, it was ok, not bad

susiedaisy · 07/05/2014 09:42

Seemed funny seeing 'Dave coaches' off Gavin and Stacey as the solicitor.

imip · 07/05/2014 09:57

I would love to have loved it. Great, moody and atmospheric. A nice change in welsh to scandi series.

However,it's that old chestnut of crazy lady that loses baby that lost it for me. It almost becomes an Eastenders plot... Yes, I'm speaking as a bereaved mother, but sometimes the portrayal of women losing a baby sending them mad is a bit too stereotypical. I know it addressed other issues that 'assisted' in her demise, but it did just ruin it for me....

quineandloons · 07/05/2014 10:15

Watched this on iplayer last night and loved it, it's so nice to hear Welsh on tv. Bit confused by this thread though, were there two versions, a totally Welsh one and one with Welsh and English (which is what I watched)?

Preferred the atmosphere and music and the way it looked to the actual plot (bit soapy although well acted), similar to Shetland in that way

guineapiglet · 07/05/2014 12:09

We are all really enjoying it here, although I agree plot lines rather grim. the original was all in Welsh, so all if it was subtitled...this is an anglicised version!.... I just find the scenery, as in Shetland, absolutely amazingly beautiful, views of the sea, and the light very atmospheric....it is naturally paced too, very compelling. I guess I would like to see a drama like this which didn't rely on dead bodies to provide a story, but something more about intrigue and implication. Love that part of Wales it is very special.

bettys · 07/05/2014 13:01

Dave Coaches!! That's who it was!

susiedaisy · 08/05/2014 08:45

Every time I look at the main cop character Mathias I see a cross between Russell Crowe in gladiator and Ryan gosling. Smile

sourdrawers · 08/05/2014 15:57

I was a little disappointed that it wasn't solely in the Welsh language, not sure why! I agree Mathias is a good character though he seems to make massive lurches in his deductions that I can't quite make out how on earth he would have thought that. The supporting cast are quite good too. Not sure about the Mared Rhys character though. I can't really see the point of her, she doesn't ever seem to affect the outcomes ever.
