Anyone watching? I really like it & love Matthew Rhys. Interesting take on the Cold War - wonder how much of it is based on reality?

Damn it damn it damn it!!

When did it start? I noticed it was on rerun so knew it must be coming soon.

Thank the TV gods for catch up.........

Catnuzzle · 17/03/2014 07:40

Def watching, love it!!!!!

Although I do wonder how on earth they fit everything in. They live about 8 different lives all at the same time!

diddl · 17/03/2014 09:37

I love it!

Absolutely confused as to why that family was killed though.

GypsyFloss · 17/03/2014 18:05

I'm so glad this is back, mostly for the theme tune!

Were they killed cos they were supposed to be the family doing the drop and they had been sussed by the Americans?

More importantly was the mother in the other family the same actress who played the beauty school drop out in Grease??

onedev · 17/03/2014 18:29

I caught it by accident Beck - first episode was just Saturday gone so bound to be on catch up.

I thought that family were killed because someone realised they were Russian spies but not sure who as surely the CIA guys would have talked about it.

I know it's fiction but surely it would be so confusing to fight against a country that your own children are from & who they consider themselves to be (through your deliberate actions)?? Totally messes with my head!

diddl · 17/03/2014 18:33

It was odd, wasn't it?

Because obviously the other family were in a different room to the Jennings, and looked different & were wearing different clothes!

Nancy66 · 17/03/2014 18:34

..and how the hell do Philip and Elizabeth get away with leaving their kids at night all the time!

onedev · 17/03/2014 18:40

The kids have never been allowed into their bedroom at night time before but that's why the daughter is questioning it now (presumably they've been good sleepers, or they drugged them?) & I thought they were suspect about her hence the sex scene they wanted her to walk in on, to put her off going into their bedroom ever again if the door were closed Smile

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 17/03/2014 18:43

oh, I never twigged that the sex scene might have been a set up.

the two lead actors are meant to be shagging in real life..

onedev · 17/03/2014 18:50

Are they really? I love Matthew Rhys but always thought he was gay - good to know I'm in with a chance Wink

I really can't stand the CIA guy shagging the Russian girl & hope he gets his comeuppance!

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 17/03/2014 18:59

Nina (Russian girl) looks exactly like a brunette Scarlett Johannsdon to me - stunning.

yes, sure I read that Keri Russell had split from husband and now linked with Matthew Rhys

onedev · 17/03/2014 19:04

I hadn't noticed that before but you're right, she does look like her!

I hope they were cheating with each other as that'll put me right off them & I like my little TV bubble!

Again, I know it's fiction but also can't get my head around the way they're ok having sex with whoever they need to, in order to get information or whatever they need! That women Philip is married to will figure something & I reckon she'll be his downfall Grin

OP posts:
onedev · 17/03/2014 19:05

Weren't cheating - not were Blush

PatTheHammer · 17/03/2014 20:31

I love it, it's very well cast and the two leads are both great actors. I was genuinely on the edge of my seat during the fairground scene as I am so worried about their children!

Also, is the boss CIA guy John-boy from the Waltons?

onedev · 17/03/2014 20:34

Yes, he's John boy. Getting the kids involved is what makes it more tense & what will they do if the kids find out? It seems like they love them, but then how can they reconcile their behaviour if they do?

I'm thinking about this too much Shock

OP posts:
PatTheHammer · 17/03/2014 20:42

Isn't it based on a true story? In which case if they stick to it roughly then the kids won't die......I'm holding onto that as a faint possibility!

I also love the wigs and the general fashion. Amazing that it looked so dated when they were watching videotapes.

onedev · 17/03/2014 20:44

I didn't know it was based on a true story - just imagined it was based on lots of assumed spy stories! Fantastic! Grin

OP posts:
PatTheHammer · 17/03/2014 20:46

I think the story lines are just made up but the Russian family who lived as Americans undetected for years were real.....I think!

onedev · 25/03/2014 21:37

Just enjoying last Saturdays episode - that poor woman (Martha) thinking she's properly married to him!

And how could you live with all that stress? Love it!

I missed the start of series 2, but just found it on demand. I loved the first series. I can't understand why the new series wasn't better advertised.

I will catch up and rejoin thread with my thoughts on how lovely Mathew Rhys is, I'm sure I will not be let down.

onedev · 26/03/2014 18:53

I don't believe you will Slattern!

It's strange how they've not advertised it at all - i got lucky as happened to stumble on it this series & series 1 & not seen much about it on social media either!

OP posts:
diddl · 26/03/2014 20:20

I stumbled across it in the good old radio times!

Is it based on a true story or the stories of various spies iyswim?

DustBunnyFarmer · 27/03/2014 20:58

Another fan here. I really, really loved the opening scene in episode of season 1 with the ballsed up assassination/kidnap to Fleetwood Mac's 'Tusk'. Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys are great and I love the period detail.

diddl · 28/03/2014 06:53

"I really, really loved the opening scene in episode of season 1"

Me too.

Thought it was a great way to pull people in!

onedev · 28/03/2014 18:22

I didn't see the very first episode - what happened!
